DOUAI-RHEIMSLXX
Then Eliphaz the Themanite answered, and said:1 υπολαβων δε ελιφας ο θαιμανιτης λεγει
Can man be compared with God, even though he were of perfect knowledge?2 ποτερον ουχι ο κυριος εστιν ο διδασκων συνεσιν και επιστημην
What doth it profit God if thou be just? or what dost thou give him if thy way be unspotted?3 τι γαρ μελει τω κυριω εαν συ ησθα τοις εργοις αμεμπτος η ωφελεια οτι απλωσης την οδον σου
Shall he reprove thee for fear, and come with thee into judgment:4 η λογον σου ποιουμενος ελεγξει σε και συνεισελευσεται σοι εις κρισιν
And not for thy manifold wickedness, and thy infinite iniquities?5 ποτερον ουχ η κακια σου εστιν πολλη αναριθμητοι δε σου εισιν αι αμαρτιαι
For thou hast taken away the pledge of thy brethren without cause, and stripped the naked of their clothing.6 ηνεχυραζες δε τους αδελφους σου δια κενης αμφιασιν δε γυμνων αφειλου
Thou hast not given water to the weary, thou hast withdrawn bread from the hungry.7 ουδε υδωρ διψωντας εποτισας αλλα πεινωντων εστερησας ψωμον
In the strength of thy arm thou didst possess the land, and being the most mighty thou holdest it.8 εθαυμασας δε τινων προσωπον ωκισας δε τους επι της γης
Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless thou hast broken in pieces.9 χηρας δε εξαπεστειλας κενας ορφανους δε εκακωσας
Therefore art thou surrounded with snares, and sudden fear troubleth thee.10 τοιγαρουν εκυκλωσαν σε παγιδες και εσπουδασεν σε πολεμος εξαισιος
And didst thou think that thou shouldst not see darkness, and that thou shouldst not be covered with the violence of overflowing waters?11 το φως σοι σκοτος απεβη κοιμηθεντα δε υδωρ σε εκαλυψεν
Dost not thou think that God is higher than heaven, and is elevated above the height of the stars?12 μη ουχι ο τα υψηλα ναιων εφορα τους δε υβρει φερομενους εταπεινωσεν
And thou sayst: What doth God know? and he judgeth as it were through a mist.13 και ειπας τι εγνω ο ισχυρος η κατα του γνοφου κρινει
The clouds are his covert, and he doth not consider our things, and he walketh about the poles of heaven.14 νεφη αποκρυφη αυτου και ουχ οραθησεται και γυρον ουρανου διαπορευσεται
Dost thou desire to keep the path of ages, which wicked men have trodden?15 μη τριβον αιωνιον φυλαξεις ην επατησαν ανδρες αδικοι
Who were taken away before their time, and a flood hath overthrown their foundation.16 οι συνελημφθησαν αωροι ποταμος επιρρεων οι θεμελιοι αυτων
Who said to God: Depart from us: and looked upon the Almighty as if he could do nothing:17 οι λεγοντες κυριος τι ποιησει ημιν η τι επαξεται ημιν ο παντοκρατωρ
Whereas he had filled their houses with good things: whose way of thinking be far from me.18 ος δε ενεπλησεν τους οικους αυτων αγαθων βουλη δε ασεβων πορρω απ' αυτου
The just shall see, and shall rejoice, and the innocent shall laugh them to scorn.19 ιδοντες δικαιοι εγελασαν αμεμπτος δε εμυκτηρισεν
Is not their exaltation cut down, and hath not fire devoured the remnants of them?20 ει μη ηφανισθη η υποστασις αυτων και το καταλειμμα αυτων καταφαγεται πυρ
Submit thyself then to him, and be at peace: and thereby thou shalt have the best fruits.21 γενου δη σκληρος εαν υπομεινης ειτ' ο καρπος σου εσται εν αγαθοις
Receive the law of his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart.22 εκλαβε δε εκ στοματος αυτου εξηγοριαν και αναλαβε τα ρηματα αυτου εν καρδια σου
If thou wilt return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, and shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacle.23 εαν δε επιστραφης και ταπεινωσης σεαυτον εναντι κυριου πορρω εποιησας απο διαιτης σου το αδικον
He shall give for earth flint, and for flint torrents of gold.24 θηση επι χωματι εν πετρα και ως πετρα χειμαρρους ωφιρ
And the Almighty shall be against thy enemies, and silver shall be heaped together for thee.25 εσται ουν σου ο παντοκρατωρ βοηθος απο εχθρων καθαρον δε αποδωσει σε ωσπερ αργυριον πεπυρωμενον
Then shalt thou abound in delights in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face to God.26 ειτα παρρησιασθηση εναντι κυριου αναβλεψας εις τον ουρανον ιλαρως
Thou shalt pray to him, and he will hear thee, and thou shalt pay vows.27 ευξαμενου δε σου προς αυτον εισακουσεται σου δωσει δε σοι αποδουναι τας ευχας
Thou shalt decree a thing, and it I shall come to thee, and light shall shine in thy ways.28 αποκαταστησει δε σοι διαιταν δικαιοσυνης επι δε οδοις σου εσται φεγγος
For he that hath been humbled, shall be in glory: and he that shall bow down his eyes, he shall be saved.29 οτι εταπεινωσεν αυτον και ερεις υπερηφανευσατο και κυφοντα οφθαλμοις σωσει
The innocent shall be saved, and he shall be saved by the cleanness of his hands.30 ρυσεται αθωον και διασωθητι εν καθαραις χερσιν σου
