3 A prática da justiça e da eqüidade vale aos olhos do Senhor mais que os sacrifícios. | 3 To do mercy and judgment, pleaseth the Lord more than victims. |
4 Olhares altivos ensoberbecem o coração; o luzeiro dos ímpios é o pecado. | 4 Haughtiness of the eyes is the enlarging of the heart: the lamp of the wicked is sin. |
5 Os planos do homem ativo produzem abundância; a precipitação só traz penúria. | 5 The thoughts of the industrious always bring forth abundance: but every sluggard is always in want. |
6 Tesouros adquiridos pela mentira: vaidade passageira para os que procuram a morte. | 6 He that gathereth treasures by a lying tongue, is vain and foolish, and shall stumble upon the snares of death. |
7 A violência dos ímpios os conduz à {ruína}, porque se recusam a praticar a justiça. | 7 The robberies of the wicked shall be their downfall, because they would not do judgment. |
8 O caminhos do perverso é tortuoso, mas o inocente age com retidão. | 8 The perverse way of a man is strange: but as for him that is pure, his work is right. |
9 Melhor é habitar num canto do terraço do que conviver com uma mulher impertinente. | 9 It is better to sit in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling women, and in a common house. |
10 A alma do ímpio deseja o mal; nem mesmo seu amigo encontrará graça a seus olhos. | 10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil, he will not have pity on his neighbour. |
11 Quando se pune o zombador, o simples torna-se sábio; quando se adverte o sábio, ele adquire a ciência. | 11 When a pestilent man is punished, the little one will be wiser: and if he follow the wise, he will receive knowledge. |
12 O justo observa a cada do ímpio e precipita os maus na desventura. | 12 The just considereth seriously the house of the wicked, that he may withdraw the wicked from evil. |
13 Quem se faz de surdo aos gritos do pobre não será ouvido, quando ele mesmo clamar. | 13 He that stoppeth his ear against the cry of the poor, shall also cry himself and shall not be heard. |
14 Um presente dado sob o manto extingue a cólera; uma oferta concebida às ocultas acalma um furor violento. | 14 A secret present quencheth anger: and a gift in the bosom the greatest wrath. |
15 Para o justo é uma alegria a prática da justiça, mas é um terror para aqueles que praticam a iniqüidade. | 15 It is joy to the just to do judgment: and dread to them that work iniquity. |
16 O homem que se desvia do caminho da prudência repousará na companhia das trevas. | 16 A man that shall wander out of the way of doctrine, shall abide in the company of the giants. |
17 O que ama os banquetes será um homem indigente; o que ama o vinho e o óleo não se enriquecerá. | 17 He that loveth good cheer, shall be in want: he that loveth wine, and fat things, shall not be rich. |
18 O ímpio serve de resgate para o justo e o pérfido para os homens retos. | 18 The wicked is delivered up for the just: and the unjust for the righteous. |
19 Melhor é habitar no deserto do que com uma mulher impertinente e intrigante. | 19 It is better to dwell in a wilderness, than with a quarrelsome and passionate woman. |
20 Na casa do sábio há preciosas reservas e óleo; um homem imprudente, porém, os absorverá. | 20 There is a treasure to be desired, and oil in the dwelling of the just: and the foolish man shall spend it. |
21 Quem segue a justiça e a misericórdia, achará vida, justiça e glória. | 21 He that followeth justice and mercy, shall find life, justice, and glory. |
22 O sábio toma de assalto a cidade dos heróis: destrói a fortaleza em que depositava confiança. | 22 The wise man hath scaled the city of the strong, and hath cast down the strength of the confidence thereof. |
23 Quem vigia sua boca e sua língua preserva sua vida da angústia. | 23 He that keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soul from distress. |
24 Chamamos de zombador um soberbo arrogante, que age com orgulho desmedido. | 24 The proud and the arrogant is called ignorant, who in anger worketh pride. |
25 Os desejos do preguiçoso o matam porque suas mãos recusam o trabalho; | 25 Desires kill the slothful: for his hands have refused to work at all. |
26 passam todo o dia a desejar com ardor, mas quem é justo dá largamente. | 26 He longeth and desireth all the day : but he that is just, will give, and will not cease. |
27 O sacrifício dos ímpios é abominável, mormente quando o oferecem com má intenção. | 27 The sacrifices of the wicked are abominable, because they are offered of wickedness. |
28 A testemunha mentirosa perecerá, mas o homem que escuta sempre poderá falar. | 28 A lying witness shall perish: an obedient man shall speak of victory. |
29 O ímpio aparenta um ar firme; o homem correto consolida seu proceder. | 29 The wicked man impudently hardeneth his face: but he that is righteous, correcteth his way. |
30 Nem a sabedoria, nem prudência, nem conselho podem prevalescer contra o Senhor. | 30 There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel against the Lord. |
31 Prepara-se o cavalo para o dia da batalha, mas é do senhor que depende a vitória. | 31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle: but the Lord giveth safety. |
