1 (E dicovi che) se io parlassi in lingua d' uomini e d' angeli, e io non avessi carità, sì son fatto secondo che metallo o cembalo che suona.	1 If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
2 E se io averò profezia, e cognoscerò tutte le cose secrete di Dio, e ogni sapere, e averò tanta fede che trapasserò li monti, e carità non averò, non son alcuna cosa.	2 And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 E se io distribuirò tutte le mie possessioni in mangiare de' poveri, e il mio corpo ad ardere, e carità non averò, niuno prode mi fa tutto quello.	3 If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Chè la carità sì è paziente e benigna; la carità non ha invidia, non fa cose perverse, non enfia;	4 Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated,
5 non è ambiziosa, non domanda quelle cose che son sue; non si adira e non pensa male;	5 it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury,
6 non si allegra (del male e) della iniquità, ma della verità si allegra;	6 it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.
7 tutte le cose sopporta, tutte le cose crede, tutte le cose spera, tutte le cose sostiene.	7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 La carità da niuno tempo cade (e non viene a meno), se gli parlari degli profeti s' evacueranno, ovver se tutte le lingue cesseranno, [ovver] se le scienze saranno distrutte.	8 Love never fails. If there are prophecies, they will be brought to nothing; if tongues, they will cease; if knowledge, it will be brought to nothing.
9 E questo in parte il conosciamo, e in parte il profetiamo.	9 For we know partially and we prophesy partially,
10 Ma quando verrà quella cosa ch' è perfetta (e compiuta), verrà meno quella che è di parte (e non compiuta).	10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
11 Quando io era fanciullo, sì parlava come fanciullo, sapea come fanciullo, pensava come fanciullo; ma quando fui fatto uomo, cacciai via quelle cose ch' erano di fanciullo.	11 When I was a child, I used to talk as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I put aside childish things.
12 Vedemo ora per ispecchio e per figura; ma allora vederemo a faccia a faccia. Ora conosco in parte, ma allora conoscerò secondo che io son conosciuto.	12 At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present I know partially; then I shall know fully, as I am fully known.
13 E permangono tre cose, la fede, la speranza e la carità e la maggiore di queste è la carità.	13 So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
