| 3 lasciò la Giudea e ritornò verso la Galilea. | 3 he left Judea and departed again to Galilee. |
| 4 Egli doveva passare per la Samaria. | 4 He had to pass through Samaria. |
| 5 Ora, arriva ad una città della Samaria chiamata Sichar, vicino al podere che Giacobbe aveva dato al figlio suo Giuseppe. | 5 So he came to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. |
| 6 C'era là il pozzo di Giacobbe. Gesù, affaticato com'era dal viaggio, si era seduto sul pozzo; era circa l'ora sesta. | 6 Jacob's well was there, and so Jesus, wearied as he was with his journey, sat down beside the well. It was about the sixth hour. |
| 7 Viene una donna della Samaria ad attingere acqua. Le dice Gesù: "Dammi da bere". | 7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink." |
| 8 I discepoli infatti se n'erano andati in città a comperare da mangiare. | 8 For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. |
| 9 Gli dice la donna samaritana: "Come mai tu che sei giudeo chiedi da bere a me che sono una donna samaritana?". I Giudei infatti non hanno rapporti con i Samaritani. | 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. |
| 10 Le rispose Gesù: "Se tu conoscessi il dono di Dio e chi è colui che ti dice: "Dammi da bere", tu gli avresti chiesto ed egli ti avrebbe dato acqua viva". | 10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." |
| 11 Gli dice la donna: "Signore, non hai neppure un secchio e il pozzo è profondo. Da dove prendi dunque l'acqua viva? | 11 The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; where do you get that living water? |
| 12 Forse tu sei più grande del nostro padre Giacobbe, che ci diede il pozzo e ne bevve lui e i suoi figli e il suo bestiame?". | 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?" |
| 13 Le rispose Gesù: "Colui che beve di quest'acqua, avrà ancora sete. | 13 Jesus said to her, "Every one who drinks of this water will thirst again, |
| 14 Colui invece che beve dell'acqua che gli darò io, non avrà mai più sete; ma l'acqua che gli darò diverrà in lui una sorgente di acqua che zampilla verso la vita eterna". | 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." |
| 15 "Signore, -- gli dice la donna -- dammi quest'acqua, affinché io non abbia più sete e non debba più venire qui ad attingere". | 15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw." |
| 16 Le dice: "Va', chiama tuo marito e ritorna qui". | 16 Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here." |
| 17 "Non ho marito", gli rispose la donna. Le dice Gesù: "Hai detto bene: "Non ho marito", | 17 The woman answered him, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You are right in saying, 'I have no husband'; |
| 18 perché hai avuto cinque mariti e ora quello che hai non è tuo marito. Quanto a questo hai detto il vero". | 18 for you have had five husbands, and he whom you now have is not your husband; this you said truly." |
| 19 "Signore, -- dice la donna -- vedo che tu sei un profeta. | 19 The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. |
| 20 I nostri padri adorarono su questo monte e voi dite che è a Gerusalemme il luogo dove si deve adorare". | 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain; and you say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." |
| 21 Le dice Gesù: "Credimi, donna, che viene un'ora in cui né su questo monte né a Gerusalemme adorerete il Padre. | 21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. |
| 22 Voi adorate ciò che non conoscete; noi adoriamo ciò che conosciamo, perché la salvezza viene dai Giudei. | 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. |
| 23 Ma viene un'ora, ed è adesso, in cui i veri adoratori adoreranno il Padre in Spirito e verità; infatti il Padre cerca tali persone che l'adorino. | 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. |
| 24 Dio è Spirito, e coloro che lo adorano, in Spirito e verità devono adorarlo". | 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." |
| 25 Gli dice la donna: "So che deve venire un Messia (che significa "Cristo"). Quando quegli verrà, ci annuncerà ogni cosa". | 25 The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ); when he comes, he will show us all things." |
| 26 Le dice Gesù: "Lo sono io, che ti parlo". | 26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am he." |
| 27 A questo punto arrivarono i suoi discepoli e rimasero meravigliati che parlasse con una donna. Nessuno però disse: "Che vuoi tu da lei?", oppure: "Perché parli con lei?". | 27 Just then his disciples came. They marveled that he was talking with a woman, but none said, "What do you wish?" or, "Why are you talking with her?" |
| 28 La donna intanto abbandonò la sua giara, andò in città e disse alla gente: | 28 So the woman left her water jar, and went away into the city, and said to the people, |
| 29 "Venite a vedere un uomo che mi ha detto tutto ciò che ho fatto. Non sarà forse lui il Cristo?". | 29 "Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?" |
| 30 Uscirono dalla città e andavano verso di lui. | 30 They went out of the city and were coming to him. |
| 31 Nel frattempo i discepoli lo pregavano dicendo: "Rabbì, mangia!". | 31 Meanwhile the disciples besought him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." |
| 32 Ma egli disse loro: "Io ho un cibo da mangiare che voi non conoscete". | 32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know." |
| 33 I discepoli dicevano fra loro: "Che qualcuno gli abbia portato da mangiare?". | 33 So the disciples said to one another, "Has any one brought him food?" |
| 34 Dice loro Gesù: "Mio cibo è fare la volontà di Colui che mi ha mandato e portare a compimento la sua opera. | 34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work. |
| 35 Non dite voi: "Ancora quattro mesi e viene la mietitura"? Ecco, vi dico, alzate i vostri occhi e osservate i campi: sono bianchi per la mietitura. Già | 35 Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest? I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see how the fields are already white for harvest. |
| 36 il mietitore riceve il salario e raccoglie frutto per la vita eterna, affinché il seminatore goda insieme al mietitore. | 36 He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. |
| 37 In questo caso infatti è vero il proverbio: "Diverso è chi semina da chi miete". | 37 For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.' |
| 38 Io vi ho mandati a mietere ciò per cui voi non avete faticato; altri hanno faticato e voi siete subentrati nella loro fatica". | 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor." |
| 39 Molti Samaritani di quella città credettero in lui per la parola della donna che aveva attestato: "Mi ha detto tutto ciò che ho fatto". | 39 Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me all that I ever did." |
| 40 Quando i Samaritani arrivarono da lui, lo pregavano di rimanere presso di loro; e vi rimase due giorni. | 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days. |
| 41 Furono ancora più numerosi coloro che credettero per la sua parola. | 41 And many more believed because of his word. |
| 42 Alla donna dicevano: "Non crediamo più per il tuo discorso. Noi stessi infatti abbiamo udito e sappiamo che è veramente lui il salvatore del mondo". | 42 They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of your words that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world." |
| 43 Dopo questi due giorni ripartì di là per la Galilea. | 43 After the two days he departed to Galilee. |
| 44 Gesù stesso infatti aveva testimoniato: "Un profeta non gode alcun credito nella propria patria". | 44 For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. |
| 45 Ora, quando Gesù arrivò in Galilea, i Galilei lo accolsero bene, avendo visto tutte le cose che aveva fatto a Gerusalemme durante la festa, poiché anch'essi erano andati alla festa. | 45 So when he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they too had gone to the feast. |
| 46 Gesù tornò dunque a Cana di Galilea, dove aveva cambiato l'acqua in vino. C'era un funzionario regio, il cui figlio era ammalato, a Cafarnao. | 46 So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Caperna-um there was an official whose son was ill. |
| 47 Avendo egli saputo che Gesù era venuto dalla Giudea alla Galilea, si recò da lui e lo pregava di scendere e guarire il figlio suo, perché stava per morire. | 47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. |
| 48 Gesù gli disse: "Se non vedete segni e prodigi, voi non credete". | 48 Jesus therefore said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe." |
| 49 Gli dice il funzionario regio: "Scendi prima che il mio ragazzo muoia". | 49 The official said to him, "Sir, come down before my child dies." |
| 50 Gli dice Gesù: "Va'! Tuo figlio vive". Quell'uomo credette alla parola che Gesù gli aveva detto e partì. | 50 Jesus said to him, "Go; your son will live." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way. |
| 51 Mentre egli già scendeva, i suoi servi gli andarono incontro dicendogli che suo figlio viveva. | 51 As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was living. |
| 52 Allora chiese informazioni sull'ora in cui aveva cominciato a stare meglio. Gli risposero: "La febbre lo lasciò ieri all'ora settima". | 52 So he asked them the hour when he began to mend, and they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." |
| 53 Il padre riconobbe che quella era l'ora in cui Gesù gli aveva detto: "Tuo figlio vive" e credette lui e la sua famiglia al completo. | 53 The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live"; and he himself believed, and all his household. |
| 54 Gesù compì questo secondo segno ritornando dalla Giudea alla Galilea. | 54 This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee. |
