LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 C'è un rimprovero che non è a tempo giusto, e c'è chi tace perché è sapiente.	1 There is the rebuke that is untimely, and there is the person who keeps quiet, and he is the shrewd one.
2 E' meglio reclamare che covare la rabbia,	2 But how much better to rebuke than to fume!
3 ma chi ammette la propria colpa evita il peggio.	3 The person who acknowledges a fault wards off punishment.
4 Eunuco che brama deflorare una ragazza è chi vuole ottenere giustizia con la violenza.	4 Like a eunuch trying to take a girl's virginity is someone who tries to impose justice by force.
5 Chi tace sarà riconosciuto saggio ma è odiato chi parla troppo.	5 There is the person who keeps quiet and is considered wise, another incurs hatred for talking too much.

8 Chi abbonda nel parlare sarà in abominio, e chi è presuntuoso sarà disprezzato.	8 Someone who talks too much wil earn dislike, and someone who usurps authority wil earn hatred.
9 Si può aver profitto dall'avversità e perdita da un colpo di fortuna.	9 There is the person who finds misfortune a boon, and the piece of luck that turns to loss.
10 C'è generosità che non reca guadagno e c'è generosità che è ricambiata due volte.	10 There is the gift that affords you no profit, and the gift that repays you double.
11 C'è chi cerca gloria e trova umiliazione, e chi dall'umiliazione alza la testa.	11 There is the honour that leads to humiliation, and there are people in a low state who raise theirheads.
12 C'è chi compra molto con poco, e chi lo paga sette volte.	12 There is the person who buys much for little, yet pays for it seven times over.
13 Il saggio con poco si rende amabile, i favori dello stolto si versano a vuoto.	13 The wise wins love with words, while fools may shower favours in vain.
14 Il dono dello stolto non ti gioverà, egli attende ricompensa ad occhi sbarrati;	14 The gift of the stupid wil bring you no advantage, his eyes look for seven times as much in return.
15 dà poco e fa molte rimostranze, aprendo la sua bocca come un banditore; oggi fa un prestito e domani lo richiede, quest'uomo è sempre malvisto.	15 He gives little and reviles much, he opens his mouth like the town crier, he lends today and demandspayment tomorrow; he is a detestable fellow.

20 Lo stolto che sentenzia sarà criticato, perché non parla a tempo opportuno.	20 A maxim is rejected when coming from a fool, since the fool does not utter it on the apt occasion.

24 La menzogna è nell'uomo macchia infame, ma abbonda sulla bocca degli stolti.	24 Lying is an ugly blot on anyone, and ever on the lips of the undisciplined.

30 Sapienza nascosta e tesoro invisibile, non sono entrambi inutili?	30 Wisdom concealed, and treasure undiscovered, what use is either of these?
31 Val più l'uomo che nasconde la stoltezza che l'uomo che nasconde la sapienza.	31 Better one who conceals his fol y than one who conceals his wisdom.
