Livre des Proverbes 2

1 Mon fils, si tu accueilles mes paroles, si tu conserves à part toi mes préceptes,	1 My son, if you would accept my words, and conceal my commandments within you,
2 rendant tes oreilles attentives à la sagesse, inclinant ton coeur vers l'intelligence,	2 so that your ears may listen to wisdom, then bend your heart in order to know prudence.
3 oui, si tu fais appel à l'entendement, si tu réclames l'intelligence,	3 For if you would call upon wisdom and bend your heart to prudence,
4 si tu la recherches comme l'argent, si tu la creuses comme un chercheur de trésor,	4 if you will seek her like money, and dig for her as if for treasure,
5 alors tu comprendras la crainte de Yahvé, tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.	5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and you will discover the knowledge of God.
6 Car c'est Yahvé qui donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent le savoir et l'intelligence.	6 For the Lord bestows wisdom, and out of his mouth, prudence and knowledge.
7 Il réserve aux hommes droits son conseil, il est le bouclier de ceux qui pratiquent l'honnêteté;	7 He will preserve the salvation of the righteous, and he will protect those who walk in simplicity:
8 il monte la garde aux chemins de l'équité, il veille sur la voie de ses fidèles.	8 serving the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of sanctity.
9 Alors tu comprendras justice, équité et droiture, toutes les pistes du bonheur.	9 Then you shall understand justice and judgment, and equity, and every good path.
10 Quand la sagesse entrera dans ton coeur, que le savoir fera les délices de ton âme,	10 If wisdom is to enter into your heart, and if knowledge is to become pleasing to your soul,
11 la prudence veillera sur toi, l'intelligence te gardera	11 then counsel must guard you, and prudence must serve you,
12 pour t'éloigner de la voie mauvaise, de l'homme aux propos pervers,	12 so that you may be rescued from the evil way, and from the man who speaks perversities,
13 de ceux qui délaissent les droits sentiers et vont courir par des voies ténébreuses;	13 from those who leave the straight path to walk in dark ways,
14 ils trouvent leur joie à faire le mal, ils se complaisent dans la perversité;	14 who rejoice when they have done evil, and who exult in the most wicked things.
15 leurs sentiers sont tortueux, leurs pistes sont obliques.	15 Their ways are perverse, and their steps are infamous.
16 Pour te garder aussi de la femme étrangère, de l'inconnue aux paroles enjôleuses;	16 So may you be rescued from the foreign woman, and from the outsider, who softens her speech,
17 elle a abandonné l'ami de sa jeunesse, elle a oublié l'alliance de son Dieu;	17 and who leaves behind the Guide of her youth,
18 sa maison penche vers la mort, ses pistes conduisent vers les ombres.	18 and who has forgotten the covenant of her God. For her household inclines toward death, and her paths toward Hell.
19 De ceux qui vont à elle, pas un ne revient, ils ne rejoignent plus les sentiers de la vie.	19 All those who enter to her will not return again, nor will they take hold of the paths of life.
20 Ainsi chemineras-tu dans la voie des gens de bien, garderas-tu le sentier des justes.	20 So may you walk in the good way, and keep to the difficult paths of the just.
21 Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, les gens honnêtes y demeureront,	21 For those who are upright shall live upon the earth, and the simple shall continue upon it.
22 mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays, les traîtres en seront arrachés.	22 Yet truly, the impious shall perish from the earth, and those who act unjustly shall be taken away from it.
