DOUAI-RHEIMSNOVA VULGATA
Then came to him from Jerusalem scribes and Pharisees, saying:1 Tunc accedunt ad Iesum ab Hierosolymis pharisaei et scribae dicentes:
Why do thy disciples trangress the tradition of the ancients? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread.2 “Quare discipuli tui transgrediuntur traditionem seniorum? Non enim lavantmanus suas, cum panem manducant ”.
But he answering, said to them: Why do you also transgress the commandment of God for your tradition? For God said:3 Ipse autem respondens ait illis: “Quare et vos transgredimini mandatum Dei propter traditionem vestram?
Honour thy father and mother: And: He that shall curse father or mother, let him die the death.4 Nam Deusdixit: "Honora patrem tuum et matrem" et: "Qui maledixerit patrivel matri, morte moriatur".
But you say: Whosoever shall say to father or mother, The gift whatsoever proceedeth from me, shall profit thee.5 Vos autem dicitis: “Quicumque dixerit patrivel matri: Munus est, quodcumque ex me profuerit,
And he shall not honour his father or his mother: and you have made void the commandment of God for your tradition.6 non honorificabit patremsuum”; et irritum fecistis verbum Dei propter traditionem vestram.
Hypocrites, well hath Isaias prophesied of you, saying:7 Hypocritae! Bene prophetavit de vobis Isaias dicens:
This people honoureth me with their lips: but their heart is far from me.8 "Populus hic labiisme honorat,
cor autem eorum longe est a me;
And in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men.9 sine causa autem colunt me
docentes doctrinas mandata homi num" ”.
And having called together the multitudes unto him, he said to them: Hear ye and understand.10 Et convocata ad se turba, dixit eis: “ Audite et intellegite:
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but what cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.11 Non quodintrat in os, coinquinat hominem; sed quod procedit ex ore, hoc coinquinathominem! ”.
Then came his disciples, and said to him: Dost thou know that the Pharisees, when they heard this word, were scandalized?12 Tunc accedentes discipuli dicunt ei: “ Scis quia pharisaei, audito verbo, scandalizati sunt? ”.
But he answering them, said: Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.13 At ille respondens ait: “ Omnis plantatio, quam nonplantavit Pater meus caelestis, eradicabitur.
Let them alone: they are blind, and leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into the pit.14 Sinite illos: caeci sunt, ducescaecorum. Caecus autem si caeco ducatum praestet, ambo in foveam cadent ”.
And Peter answering, said to him: Expound to us this parable.15 Respondens autem Petrus dixit ei: “ Edissere nobis parabolam istam ”.
But he said: Are you also yet without understanding?16 Atille dixit: “ Adhuc et vos sine intellectu estis?
Do you not understand, that whatsoever entereth into the mouth, goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the privy?17 Non intellegitis quiaomne quod in os intrat, in ventrem vadit et in secessum emittitur?
But the things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and those things defile a man.18 Quae autemprocedunt de ore, de corde exeunt, et ea coinquinant hominem.
For from the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies.19 De corde enimexeunt cogitationes malae, homicidia, adulteria, fornicationes, furta, falsatestimonia, blasphemiae.
These are the things that defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands doth not defile a man.20 Haec sunt, quae coinquinant hominem; non lotis autemmanibus manducare non coinquinat hominem ”.
And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.21 Et egressus inde Iesus, secessit in partes Tyri et Sidonis.
And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil.22 Et ecce mulierChananaea a finibus illis egressa clamavit dicens: “ Miserere mei, Domine, fili David! Filia mea male a daemonio vexatur ”.
Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us:23 Qui non respondit eiverbum.
Et accedentes discipuli eius rogabant eum dicentes: “ Dimitte eam, quia clamatpost nos ”.
And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel.24 Ipse autem respondens ait: “ Non sum missus nisi ad oves, quae perierunt domus Israel ”.
But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me.25 At illa venit et adoravit eum dicens: “Domine, adiuva me! ”.
Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs.26 Qui respondens ait: “ Non est bonum sumere panemfiliorum et mittere catellis ”.
But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters.27 At illa dixit: “ Etiam, Domine, nam etcatelli edunt de micis, quae cadunt de mensa dominorum suorum ”.
Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour.28 Tuncrespondens Iesus ait illi: “ O mulier, magna est fides tua! Fiat tibi, sicutvis ”. Et sanata est filia illius ex illa hora.
And when Jesus had passed away from thence, he came nigh the sea of Galilee. And going up into a mountain, he sat there.29 Et cum transisset inde, Iesus venit secus mare Galilaeae et ascendens inmontem sedebat ibi.
And there came to him great multitudes, having with them the dumb, the blind, the lame, the maimed, and many others: and they cast them down at his feet, and he healed them:30 Et accesserunt ad eum turbae multae habentes secumclaudos, caecos, debiles, mutos et alios multos et proiecerunt eos ad pedeseius, et curavit eos,
So that the multitudes marvelled seeing the dumb speak, the lame walk, and the blind see: and they glorified the God of Israel.31 ita ut turba miraretur videntes mutos loquentes, debiles sanos et claudos ambulantes et caecos videntes. Et magnificabant DeumIsrael.
And Jesus called together his disciples, and said: I have compassion on the multitudes, because they continue with me now three days, and have not what to eat, and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.32 Iesus autem convocatis discipulis suis dixit: “ Misereor turbae, quia triduo iam perseverant mecum et non habent, quod manducent; et dimittereeos ieiunos nolo, ne forte deficiant in via ”.
And the disciples say unto him: Whence then should we have so many loaves in the desert, as to fill so great a multitude?33 Et dicunt ei discipuli: “Unde nobis in deserto panes tantos, ut saturemus turbam tantam? ”.
And Jesus said to them: How many loaves have you? But they said: Seven, and a few little fishes.34 Et aitillis Iesus: “ Quot panes habetis? ”. At illi dixerunt: “ Septem et paucospisciculos ”.
And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground.35 Et praecepit turbae, ut discumberet super terram;
And taking the seven loaves and the fishes, and giving thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the people.36 etaccipiens septem panes et pisces et gratias agens fregit et dedit discipulis, discipuli autem turbis.
And they did all eat, and had their fill. And they took up seven baskets full, of what remained of the fragments.37 Et comederunt omnes et saturati sunt; et, quodsuperfuit de fragmentis, tulerunt septem sportas plenas.
And they that did eat, were four thousand men, beside children and women.38 Erant autem, quimanducaverant, quattuor milia hominum extra mulieres et parvulos.
And having dismissed the multitude, he went up into a boat, and came into the coasts of Magedan.39 Et dimissisturbis, ascendit in naviculam et venit in fines Magadan.
