EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hijo mío, no prives al pobre de su sustento ni hagas languidecer los ojos del indigente.	1 My child, do not refuse the poor a livelihood, do not tantalise the needy.
2 No hagas sufrir al que tiene hambre ni irrites al que está en la miseria.	2 Do not add to the sufferings of the hungry, do not bait anyone in distress.
3 No exasperes más aún al que está irritado ni hagas esperar tu don al que lo necesita.	3 Do not aggravate a heart already angry, nor keep the destitute waiting for your alms.
4 No rechaces la súplica del afligido ni apartes tu rostro del pobre.	4 Do not repulse a hard-pressed beggar, nor turn your face from the poor.
5 No apartes tus ojos del indigente ni des lugar a que alguien te maldiga:	5 Do not avert your eyes from the needy, give no one occasion to curse you;
6 porque si te maldice con amargura en el alma, su Creador escuchará su plegaria.	6 for if someone curses you in distress, his Maker will give ear to the imprecation.
7 Procura hacerte amar de la asamblea y ante un poderoso, inclina la cabeza.	7 Gain the love of the community, in the presence of the great bow your head.
8 Vuelve tu oído hacia el pobre y devuélvele el saludo con dulzura.	8 To the poor lend an ear, and courteously return the greeting.
9 Arranca al oprimido de las manos del opresor y no te acobardes al hacer justicia.	9 Save the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor, and do not be mean-spirited in your judgements.
10 Sé un padre para los huérfanos y como un marido para su madre: así serás como un hijo del Altísimo y él te amará más que tu propia madre.	10 Be like a father to the fatherless and as good as a husband to their mothers. And you wil be like a childto the Most High, who will love you more than your own mother does.
11 La sabiduría encumbra a sus hijos y cuida de aquellos que la buscan.	11 Wisdom brings up her own children and cares for those who seek her.
12 El que la ama, ama la vida, y los que la buscan ardientemente serán colmados de gozo.	12 Whoever loves her loves life, those who seek her early wil be fil ed with joy.
13 El que la posee heredará la gloria, y dondequiera que vaya, el Señor lo bendecirá.	13 Whoever possesses her wil inherit honour, and wherever he walks the Lord will bless him.
14 Los que la sirven rinden culto al Santo y los que la aman son amados por el Señor.	14 Those who serve her minister to the Holy One, and the Lord loves those who love her.
15 El que la escucha juzgará a las naciones y el que le presta atención habitará seguro.	15 Whoever obeys her rules the nations, whoever pays attention to her dwells secure.
16 El que confía en ella la recibirá en herencia y sus descendientes también la poseerán.	16 If he trusts himself to her he wil inherit her, and his descendants will remain in possession of her;
17 Al comienzo, ella lo conducirá por un camino sinuoso, le infundirá temor y estremecimiento y lo hará sufrir con su disciplina, hasta que tenga confianza en él y lo haya probado con sus exigencias.	17 for though she takes him at first through winding ways, bringing fear and faintness on him, trying himout with her discipline til she can trust him, and testing him with her ordeals,
18 Después, volverá a él por el camino recto, lo alegrará y le revelará sus secretos.	18 she then comes back to him on the straight road, makes him happy and reveals her secrets to him.
19 Si él se desvía, ella lo abandonará y lo dejará librado a su propia caída.	19 If he goes astray, however, she abandons him and leaves him to his own destruction.
20 Ten en cuenta el momento y cuídate del mal, y no te avergüences de ti mismo.	20 Take circumstances into account and beware of evil, and have no cause to be ashamed of yourself;
21 Porque hay una vergüenza que lleva al pecado, y hay otra vergüenza que es gloria y gracia.	21 for there is a shame that leads to sin and a shame that is honourable and gracious.
22 No te perjudiques por tener en cuenta a los demás, y que la vergüenza no provoque tu caída.	22 Do not be too severe on yourself, do not let shame lead you to ruin.
23 No dejes de hablar cuando sea necesario, ni escondas tu sabiduría.	23 Do not refrain from speaking when it will do good, and do not hide your wisdom;
24 Porque la sabiduría se reconoce en las palabras, y la instrucción, en la manera de hablar.	24 for your wisdom is made known by what you say, your erudition by the words you utter.
25 No digas nada contrario a la verdad y avergüénzate de tu falta de instrucción.	25 Do not contradict the truth, rather blush for your own ignorance.
26 No tengas vergüenza de confesar tus pecados ni pretendas oponerte a la corriente de un río.	26 Do not be ashamed to confess your sins, do not struggle against the current of the river.
27 No te rebajes ante un hombre necio ni seas parcial en favor del poderoso.	27 Do not grovel to the foolish, do not show partiality to the influential.
28 Lucha hasta la muerte por la verdad, y el Señor Dios luchará por ti.	28 Fight to the death for truth, and the Lord God wil war on your side.
29 No seas atrevido con la lengua, ni perezoso y descuidado en tus acciones.	29 Do not be bold of tongue, yet idle and slack in deed;
30 No seas como un león dentro de tu casa, y cobarde entre tus servidores.	30 do not be like a lion at home, or cowardly towards your servants.
31 No tengas la mano abierta para recibir y cerrada cuando hay que dar.	31 Do not let your hands be outstretched to receive, yet tight-fisted when the time comes to give back.
