Il était d'Issachar et ilhabitait Shamir dans la montagne d'Ephraïm. | 1 After Abimelech there arose to deliver Israel Tola the son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he lived at Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim. |
| 2 Il fut juge en Israël pendant 23 ans, puis il mourut et fut enseveli à Shamir. | 2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years. Then he died, and was buried at Shamir. |
| 3 Après lui se leva Yaïr de Galaad, qui jugea Israël pendant 22 ans. | 3 After him arose Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years. |
| 4 Il avait 30 fils qui montaient 30 ânons et ils possédaient 30 villes, qu'on appelle encore aujourd'huiles Douars de Yaïr au pays de Galaad. | 4 And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty asses; and they had thirty cities, called Havvoth-jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead. |
| 5 Puis Yaïr mourut et il fut enseveli à Qamôn. | 5 And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon. |
| 6 Les Israélites recommencèrent à faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé. Ils servirent les Baals et lesAstartés, ainsi que les dieux d'Aram et de Sidon, les dieux de Moab, ceux des Ammonites et des Philistins. Ilsabandonnèrent Yahvé et ne le servirent plus. | 6 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the LORD, and did not serve him. |
| 7 Alors la colère de Yahvé s'alluma contre Israël et il le livra aux mains des Philistins et aux mains desAmmonites. | 7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites, |
| 8 Ceux-ci écrasèrent et opprimèrent les Israélites à partir de cette année-là pendant dix-huit ans, tousles Israélites qui habitaient au-delà du Jourdain, dans le pays amorite en Galaad. | 8 and they crushed and oppressed the children of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. |
| 9 Les Ammonites passèrent le Jourdain pour combattre aussi Juda, Benjamin et la maison d'Ephraïm etla détresse d'Israël devint extrême. | 9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sorely distressed. |
| 10 Alors les Israélites crièrent vers Yahvé, disant: "Nous avons péché contre toi, car nous avonsabandonné Yahvé notre Dieu pour servir les Baals." | 10 And the people of Israel cried to the LORD, saying, "We have sinned against thee, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals." |
| 11 Et Yahvé dit aux Israélites: "Quand des Egyptiens et des Amorites, des Ammonites et desPhilistins, | 11 And the LORD said to the people of Israel, "Did I not deliver you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines? |
| 12 quand les Sidoniens, Amaleq et Madiân vous opprimaient et que vous avez crié vers moi, ne vousai-je pas sauvés de leurs mains? | 12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand. |
| 13 Mais vous, vous m'avez abandonné et vous avez servi d'autres dieux. C'est pourquoi je ne voussauverai plus. | 13 Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will deliver you no more. |
| 14 Allez! Criez vers les dieux que vous avez choisis! Qu'ils vous sauvent, eux, au temps de votredétresse!" | 14 Go and cry to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your distress." |
| 15 Les Israélites répondirent à Yahvé: "Nous avons péché! Agis envers nous comme il te semblerabon, seulement, aujourd'hui délivre-nous!" | 15 And the people of Israel said to the LORD, "We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day." |
| 16 Ils firent disparaître de chez eux les dieux étrangers qu'ils avaient et ils servirent Yahvé. AlorsYahvé ne supporta pas plus longtemps la souffrance d'Israël. | 16 So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD; and he became indignant over the misery of Israel. |
| 17 Les Ammonites se réunirent et campèrent à Galaad. Les Israélites se rassemblèrent et campèrent àMiçpa. | 17 Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead; and the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah. |
| 18 Alors le peuple, les chefs de Galaad, se dirent les uns aux autres: "Quel est l'homme quientreprendra d'attaquer les fils d'Ammon? Celui-là sera le chef de tous les habitants de Galaad." | 18 And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, "Who is the man that will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead." |
