| 1 A Iconium, ils entrèrent de même dans la synagogue des Juifs et parlèrent de telle façon qu'unegrande foule de Juifs et de Grecs embrassèrent la foi. | 1 Now at Iconium they entered together into the Jewish synagogue, and so spoke that a great company believed, both of Jews and of Greeks. |
| 2 Mais les Juifs restés incrédules excitèrent les païens et les indisposèrent contre les frères. | 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren. |
| 3 Paul et Barnabé prolongèrent donc leur séjour assez longtemps, pleins d'assurance dans le Seigneur,qui rendait témoignage à la prédication de sa grâce en opérant signes et prodiges par leurs mains. | 3 So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. |
| 4 La population de la ville se partagea. Les uns étaient pour les Juifs, les autres pour les apôtres. | 4 But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles. |
| 5 Chez les païens et les Juifs, leurs chefs en tête, on se préparait à les maltraiter et à les lapider. | 5 When an attempt was made by both Gentiles and Jews, with their rulers, to molest them and to stone them, |
| 6 Mais s'en étant rendu compte, ils allèrent chercher refuge dans les villes de la Lycaonie, Lystres,Derbé et leurs environs, | 6 they learned of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding country; |
| 7 où ils se mirent à annoncer la Bonne Nouvelle. | 7 and there they preached the gospel. |
| 8 Il y avait là, assis, un homme perclus des pieds; impotent de naissance, il n'avait jamais marché. | 8 Now at Lystra there was a man sitting, who could not use his feet; he was a cripple from birth, who had never walked. |
| 9 Il écouta Paul discourir. Celui-ci, arrêtant sur lui son regard et voyant qu'il avait la foi pour êtreguéri, | 9 He listened to Paul speaking; and Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, |
| 10 dit d'une voix forte: "Lève-toi, tiens-toi droit sur tes pieds!" Il se dressa d'un bond: il marchait. | 10 said in a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet." And he sprang up and walked. |
| 11 A la vue de ce que Paul venait de faire, la foule s'écria, en lycaonien: "Les dieux, sous formehumaine, sont descendus parmi nous!" | 11 And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!" |
| 12 Ils appelaient Barnabé Zeus et Paul Hermès, puisque c'était lui qui portait la parole. | 12 Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, because he was the chief speaker, they called Hermes. |
| 13 Les prêtres du Zeus-de-devant-la-ville amenèrent au portail des taureaux ornés de guirlandes, et ilsse disposaient, de concert avec la foule, à offrir un sacrifice. | 13 And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was in front of the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and wanted to offer sacrifice with the people. |
| 14 Informés de la chose, les apôtres Barnabé et Paul déchirèrent leurs vêtements et se précipitèrentvers la foule en criant: | 14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out among the multitude, crying, |
| 15 "Amis, que faites-vous là? Nous aussi, nous sommes des hommes, soumis au même sort que vous,des hommes qui vous annoncent d'abandonner toutes ces vaines idoles pour vous tourner vers le Dieu vivant quia fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qui s'y trouve. | 15 "Men, why are you doing this? We also are men, of like nature with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. |
| 16 Dans les générations passées, il a laissé toutes les nations suivre leurs voies; | 16 In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways; |
| 17 il n'a pas manqué pour autant de se rendre témoignage par ses bienfaits, vous dispensant du cielpluies et saisons fertiles, rassasiant vos coeurs de nourriture et de félicité..." | 17 yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness." |
| 18 C'est à peine s'ils réussirent par ces paroles à empêcher la foule de leur offrir un sacrifice. | 18 With these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them. |
| 19 Survinrent alors d'Antioche et d'Iconium des Juifs qui gagnèrent les foules. On lapida Paul et on letraîna hors de la ville, le croyant mort. | 19 But Jews came there from Antioch and Iconium; and having persuaded the people, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. |
| 20 Mais, comme les disciples faisaient cercle autour de lui, il se releva et rentra dans la ville. Et lelendemain, avec Barnabé, il partit pour Derbé. | 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city; and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. |
| 21 Après avoir évangélisé cette ville et y avoir fait bon nombre de disciples, ils retournèrent à Lystres,Iconium et Antioche. | 21 When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, |
| 22 Ils affermissaient le coeur des disciples, les encourageant à persévérer dans la foi, "car, disaient-ils,il nous faut passer par bien des tribulations pour entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu." | 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. |
| 23 Ils leur désignèrent des anciens dans chaque Eglise, et, après avoir fait des prières accompagnées dejeûne, ils les confièrent au Seigneur en qui ils avaient mis leur foi. | 23 And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they believed. |
| 24 Traversant alors la Pisidie, ils gagnèrent la Pamphylie. | 24 Then they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia. |
| 25 Puis, après avoir annoncé la parole à Pergé, ils descendirent à Attalie; | 25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia; |
| 26 de là ils firent voile vers Antioche, d'où ils étaient partis, recommandés à la grâce de Dieu pourl'oeuvre qu'ils venaient d'accomplir. | 26 and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled. |
| 27 A leur arrivée, ils réunirent l'Eglise et se mirent à rapporter tout ce que Dieu avait fait avec eux, etcomment il avait ouvert aux païens la porte de la foi. | 27 And when they arrived, they gathered the church together and declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. |
| 28 Ils demeurèrent ensuite assez longtemps avec les disciples. | 28 And they remained no little time with the disciples. |
