Actes des Apôtres 10

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il y avait à Césarée un homme du nom de Corneille, centurion de la cohorte Italique.	1 One of the centurions of the Italica cohort stationed in Caesarea was cal ed Cornelius.
2 Pieux et craignant Dieu, ainsi que toute sa maison, il faisait de larges aumônes au peuple juif et priaitDieu sans cesse.	2 He and the whole of his household were devout and God-fearing, and he gave generously to Jewishcauses and prayed constantly to God.
3 Il eut une vision. Vers la neuvième heure du jour, l'Ange de Dieu - il le voyait clairement - entraitchez lui et l'appelait: "Corneille!"	3 One day at about the ninth hour he had a vision in which he distinctly saw the angel of God come intohis house and cal out to him, 'Cornelius!'
4 Il le regarda et fut pris de frayeur. "Qu'y a-t-il, Seigneur?" Demanda-t-il. - "Tes prières et tesaumônes, lui répondit l'ange, sont montées devant Dieu, et il s'est souvenu de toi.	4 He stared at the vision in terror and exclaimed, 'What is it, Lord?' The angel answered, 'Your prayersand charitable gifts have been accepted by God.
5 Maintenant donc, envoie des hommes à Joppé et fais venir Simon, surnommé Pierre.	5 Now you must send some men to Jaffa and fetch a man cal ed Simon, known as Peter,
6 Il loge chez un certain Simon, un corroyeur, dont la maison se trouve au bord de la mer."	6 who is lodging with Simon the tanner whose house is by the sea.'
7 Quand l'ange qui lui parlait fut parti, Corneille appela deux de ses domestiques ainsi qu'un soldatpieux, de ceux qui lui étaient attachés,	7 When the angel who said this had gone, Cornelius cal ed two of the slaves and a devout soldier of hisstaff,
8 et après leur avoir tout expliqué, il les envoya à Joppé.	8 told them al that had happened, and sent them off to Jaffa.
9 Le lendemain, tandis qu'ils faisaient route et approchaient de la ville, Pierre monta sur la terrasse,vers la sixième heure, pour prier.	9 Next day, while they were still on their journey and had only a short distance to go before reaching thetown, Peter went to the housetop at about the sixth hour to say his prayers.
10 Il sentit la faim et voulut prendre quelque chose. Or, pendant qu'on lui préparait à manger, il tombaen extase.	10 He felt hungry and was looking forward to his meal, but before it was ready he fel into a trance
11 Il voit le ciel ouvert et un objet, semblable à une grande nappe nouée aux quatre coins, endescendre vers la terre.	11 and saw heaven thrown open and something like a big sheet being let down to earth by its fourcorners;
12 Et dedans il y avait tous les quadrupèdes et les reptiles, et tous les oiseaux du ciel.	12 it contained every kind of animal, reptile and bird.
13 Une voix lui dit alors: "Allons, Pierre, immole et mange."	13 A voice then said to him, 'Now, Peter, kil and eat!'
14 Mais Pierre répondit: "Oh non! Seigneur, car je n'ai jamais rien mangé de souillé ni d'impur!"	14 But Peter answered, 'Certainly not, Lord; I have never yet eaten anything profane or unclean.'
15 De nouveau, une seconde fois, la voix lui parle: "Ce que Dieu a purifié, toi, ne le dis pas souillé."	15 Again, a second time, the voice spoke to him, 'What God has made clean, you have no right to callprofane.'
16 Cela se répéta par trois fois, et aussitôt l'objet fut remporté au ciel.	16 This was repeated three times, and then suddenly the container was drawn up to heaven again.
17 Tout perplexe, Pierre était à se demander en lui-même ce que pouvait bien signifier la vision qu'ilvenait d'avoir, quand justement les hommes envoyés par Corneille, s'étant enquis de la maison de Simon, seprésentèrent au portail.	17 Peter was still at a loss over the meaning of the vision he had seen, when the men sent by Corneliusarrived. They had asked where Simon's house was and they were now standing at the door,
18 Ils appelèrent et s'informèrent si c'était bien là que logeait Simon surnommé Pierre.	18 cal ing out to know if the Simon known as Peter was lodging there.
19 Comme Pierre était toujours à réfléchir sur sa vision, l'Esprit lui dit: "Voilà des hommes qui techerchent.	19 While Peter's mind was stil on the vision, the Spirit told him, 'Look! Some men have come to see you.
20 Va donc, descends et pars avec eux sans hésiter, car c'est moi qui les ai envoyés."	20 Hurry down, and do not hesitate to return with them; it was I who told them to come.'
21 Pierre descendit auprès de ces hommes et leur dit: "Me voici. Je suis celui que vous cherchez. Quelest le motif qui vous amène?"	21 Peter went down and said to them, 'I am the man you are looking for; why have you come?'
22 Ils répondirent: "Le centurion Corneille, homme juste et craignant Dieu, à qui toute la nation juiverend bon témoignage, a reçu d'un ange saint l'avis de te faire venir chez lui et d'entendre les paroles que tu as àdire."	22 They said, 'The centurion Cornelius, who is an upright and God-fearing man, highly regarded by theentire Jewish people, was told by God through a holy angel to send for you and bring you to his house and tolisten to what you have to say.'
23 Pierre les fit alors entrer et leur donna l'hospitalité. Le lendemain, il se mit en route et partit aveceux; quelques-uns des frères de Joppé l'accompagnèrent.	23 So Peter asked them in and gave them lodging. Next day, he was ready to go off with them,accompanied by some of the brothers from Jaffa.
24 Il entra dans Césarée le jour suivant. Corneille les attendait et avait réuni ses parents et ses amisintimes.	24 They reached Caesarea the following day, and Cornelius was waiting for them. He had asked hisrelations and close friends to be there,
25 Au moment où Pierre entrait, Corneille vint à sa rencontre et, tombant à ses pieds, se prosterna.	25 and as Peter reached the house Cornelius went out to meet him, fel at his feet and did himreverence.
26 Mais Pierre le releva en disant: "Relève-toi. Je ne suis qu'un homme, moi aussi."	26 But Peter helped him up. 'Stand up,' he said, ' after al , I am only a man!'
27 Et tout en s'entretenant avec lui, il entra. Il trouve alors les gens qui s'étaient réunis en grandnombre,	27 Talking together they went in to meet all the people assembled there,
28 et il leur dit: "Vous le savez, il est absolument interdit à un Juif de frayer avec un étranger oud'entrer chez lui. Mais Dieu vient de me montrer, à moi, qu'il ne faut appeler aucun homme souillé ou impur.	28 and Peter said to them, 'You know it is forbidden for Jews to mix with people of another race and visitthem; but God has made it clear to me that I must not cal anyone profane or unclean.
29 Aussi n'ai-je fait aucune difficulté pour me rendre à votre appel. Je vous le demande donc, pourquelle raison m'avez-vous fait venir?"	29 That is why I made no objection to coming when I was sent for; but I should like to know exactly whyyou sent for me.'
30 Corneille répondit: "Il y a maintenant trois jours, j'étais en prière chez moi à la neuvième heure etvoici qu'un homme surgit devant moi, en vêtements resplendissants.	30 Cornelius replied, 'At this time three days ago I was in my house saying the prayers for the ninth hour,when I suddenly saw a man in front of me in shining robes.
31 Il me dit: Corneille, ta prière a été exaucée, et de tes aumônes on s'est souvenu auprès de Dieu.	31 He said, "Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your charitable gifts have not been forgotten byGod;
32 Envoie donc quérir à Joppé Simon, surnommé Pierre. Il loge dans la maison du corroyeur Simon,au bord de la mer.	32 so now you must send to Jaffa and fetch Simon known as Peter who is lodging in the house of Simonthe tanner, by the sea."
33 Aussitôt je t'ai donc fait chercher, et toi, tu as bien fait de venir. Nous voici donc tous devant toipour entendre ce qui t'a été prescrit par Dieu."	33 So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Here we al are, assembled infront of you to hear al the instructions God has given you.'
34 Alors Pierre prit la parole et dit: "Je constate en vérité que Dieu ne fait pas acception des personnes,	34 Then Peter addressed them, 'I now real y understand', he said, 'that God has no favourites,
35 mais qu'en toute nation celui qui le craint et pratique la justice lui est agréable.	35 but that anybody of any nationality who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
36 "Il a envoyé sa parole aux Israélites, leur annonçant la bonne nouvelle de la paix par Jésus Christ:c'est lui le Seigneur de tous.	36 'God sent his word to the people of Israel, and it was to them that the good news of peace wasbrought by Jesus Christ -- he is the Lord of al .
37 Vous savez ce qui s'est passé dans toute la Judée: Jésus de Nazareth, ses débuts en Galilée, après lebaptême proclamé par Jean;	37 You know what happened al over Judaea, how Jesus of Nazareth began in Galilee, after John hadbeen preaching baptism.
38 comment Dieu l'a oint de l'Esprit Saint et de puissance, lui qui a passé en faisant le bien et enguérissant tous ceux qui étaient tombés au pouvoir du diable; car Dieu était avec lui.	38 God had anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and because God was with him, Jesuswent about doing good and curing al who had fal en into the power of the devil.
39 Et nous, nous sommes témoins de tout ce qu'il a fait dans le pays des Juifs et à Jérusalem. Lui qu'ilssont allés jusqu'à faire mourir en le suspendant au gibet,	39 Now we are witnesses to everything he did throughout the countryside of Judaea and in Jerusalemitself: and they kil ed him by hanging him on a tree,
40 Dieu l'a ressuscité le troisième jour et lui a donné de se manifester,	40 yet on the third day God raised him to life and allowed him to be seen,
41 non à tout le peuple, mais aux témoins que Dieu avait choisis d'avance, à nous qui avons mangé etbu avec lui après sa résurrection d'entre les morts;	41 not by the whole people but only by certain witnesses that God had chosen beforehand. Now we arethose witnesses -- we have eaten and drunk with him after his resurrection from the dead-
42 et il nous a enjoint de proclamer au Peuple et d'attester qu'il est, lui, le juge établi par Dieu pour lesvivants et les morts.	42 and he has ordered us to proclaim this to his people and to bear witness that God has appointed himto judge everyone, alive or dead.
43 C'est de lui que tous les prophètes rendent ce témoignage que quiconque croit en lui recevra, parson nom, la rémission de ses péchés."	43 It is to him that all the prophets bear this witness: that al who believe in Jesus wil have their sinsforgiven through his name.'
44 Pierre parlait encore quand l'Esprit Saint tomba sur tous ceux qui écoutaient la parole.	44 While Peter was stil speaking the Holy Spirit came down on al the listeners.
45 Et tous les croyants circoncis qui étaient venus avec Pierre furent stupéfaits de voir que le don duSaint Esprit avait été répandu aussi sur les païens.	45 Jewish believers who had accompanied Peter were al astonished that the gift of the Holy Spiritshould be poured out on gentiles too,
46 Ils les entendaient en effet parler en langues et magnifier Dieu. Alors Pierre déclara:	46 since they could hear them speaking strange languages and proclaiming the greatness of God. Peterhimself then said,
47 "Peut-on refuser l'eau du baptême à ceux qui ont reçu l'Esprit Saint aussi bien que nous?"	47 'Could anyone refuse the water of baptism to these people, now they have received the Holy Spiritjust as we have?'
48 Et il ordonna de les baptiser au nom de Jésus Christ. Alors ils le prièrent de rester quelques joursavec eux.	48 He then gave orders for them to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterwards they begged himto stay on for some days.
