1 Or il y avait parmi les Pharisiens un homme du nom de Nicodème, un notable des Juifs.	1 Now there was a man among the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.
2 Il vint de nuit trouver Jésus et lui dit: "Rabbi, nous le savons, tu viens de la part de Dieu comme unMaître: personne ne peut faire les signes que tu fais, si Dieu n'est pas avec lui."	2 He went to Jesus at night, and he said to him: “Rabbi, we know that you have arrived as a teacher from God. For no one would be able to accomplish these signs, which you accomplish, unless God were with him.”
3 Jésus lui répondit: "En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, à moins de naître d'en haut, nul ne peut voir leRoyaume de Dieu."	3 Jesus responded and said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one has been reborn anew, he is not able to see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodème lui dit: "Comment un homme peut-il naître, étant vieux? Peut-il une seconde fois entrer dansle sein de sa mère et naître?"	4 Nicodemus said to him: “How could a man be born when he is old? Surely, he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be reborn?”
5 Jésus répondit: "En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, à moins de naître d'eau et d'Esprit, nul ne peut entrerdans le Royaume de Dieu.	5 Jesus responded: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one has been reborn by water and the Holy Spirit, he is not able to enter into the kingdom of God.
6 Ce qui est né de la chair est chair, ce qui est né de l'Esprit est esprit.	6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Ne t'étonne pas, si je t'ai dit: Il vous faut naître d'en haut.	7 You should not be amazed that I said to you: You must be born anew.
8 Le vent souffle où il veut et tu entends sa voix, mais tu ne sais pas d'où il vient ni où il va. Ainsi en est-il de quiconque est né de l'Esprit."	8 The Spirit inspires where he wills. And you hear his voice, but you do not know where he comes from, or where he is going. So it is with all who are born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodème lui répondit: "Comment cela peut-il se faire?"	9 Nicodemus responded and said to him, “How are these things able to be accomplished?”
10 Jésus lui répondit: "Tu es Maître en Israël, et ces choses-là, tu ne les saisis pas?	10 Jesus responded and said to him: “You are a teacher in Israel, and you are ignorant of these things?
11 En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, nous parlons de ce que nous savons et nous attestons ce que nousavons vu; mais vous n'accueillez pas notre témoignage.	11 Amen, amen, I say to you, that we speak about what we know, and we testify about what we have seen. But you do not accept our testimony.
12 Si vous ne croyez pas quand je vous dis les choses de la terre, comment croirez-vous quand je vousdirai les choses du ciel?	12 If I have spoken to you about earthly things, and you have not believed, then how will you believe, if I will speak to you about heavenly things?
13 Nul n'est monté au ciel, hormis celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l'homme.	13 And no one has ascended to heaven, except the one who descended from heaven: the Son of man who is in heaven.
14 Comme Moïse éleva le serpent dans le désert, ainsi faut-il que soit élevé le Fils de l'homme,	14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so also must the Son of man be lifted up,
15 afin que quiconque croit ait par lui la vie éternelle.	15 so that whoever believes in him may not perish, but may have eternal life.
16 Car Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu'il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne seperde pas, mais ait la vie éternelle.	16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that all who believe in him may not perish, but may have eternal life.
17 Car Dieu n'a pas envoyé son Fils dans le monde pour juger le monde, mais pour que le monde soitsauvé par lui.	17 For God did not send his Son into the world, in order to judge the world, but in order that the world may be saved through him.
18 Qui croit en lui n'est pas jugé; qui ne croit pas est déjà jugé, parce qu'il n'a pas cru au Nom du Filsunique de Dieu.	18 Whoever believes in him is not judged. But whoever does not believe is already judged, because he does not believe in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.
19 Et tel est le jugement: la lumière est venue dans le monde et les hommes ont mieux aimé les ténèbresque la lumière, car leurs oeuvres étaient mauvaises.	19 And this is the judgment: that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness more than light. For their works were evil.
20 Quiconque, en effet, commet le mal hait la lumière et ne vient pas à la lumière, de peur que sesoeuvres ne soient démontrées coupables,	20 For everyone who does evil hates the Light and does not go toward the Light, so that his works may not be corrected.
21 mais celui qui fait la vérité vient à la lumière, afin que soit manifesté que ses oeuvres sont faites enDieu."	21 But whoever acts in truth goes toward the Light, so that his works may be manifested, because they have been accomplished in God.”
22 Après cela, Jésus vint avec ses disciples au pays de Judée et il y séjourna avec eux, et il baptisait.	22 After these things, Jesus and his disciples went into the land of Judea. And he was living there with them and baptizing.
23 Jean aussi baptisait, à Aenon, près de Salim, car les eaux y abondaient, et les gens se présentaient et sefaisaient baptiser.	23 Now John was also baptizing, at Aenon near Salim, because there was much water in that place. And they were arriving and being baptized.
24 Jean, en effet, n'avait pas encore été jeté en prison.	24 For John had not yet been cast into prison.
25 Il s'éleva alors une discussion entre les disciples de Jean et un Juif à propos de purification:	25 Then a dispute occurred between the disciples of John and the Jews, about purification.
26 ils vinrent trouver Jean et lui dirent: "Rabbi, celui qui était avec toi de l'autre côté du Jourdain, celui àqui tu as rendu témoignage, le voilà qui baptise et tous viennent à lui!"	26 And they went to John and said to him: “Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan, about whom you offered testimony: behold, he is baptizing and everyone is going to him.”
27 Jean répondit: "Un homme ne peut rien recevoir, si cela ne lui a été donné du ciel.	27 John responded and said: “A man is not able to receive anything, unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28 Vous-mêmes, vous m'êtes témoins que j'ai dit: Je ne suis pas le Christ, mais je suis envoyé devant lui.	28 You yourselves offer testimony for me that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but that I have been sent before him.
29 Qui a l'épouse est l'époux; mais l'ami de l'époux qui se tient là et qui l'entend, est ravi de joie à la voixde l'époux. Telle est ma joie, et elle est complète.	29 He who holds the bride is the groom. But the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to Him, rejoices joyfully at the voice of the groom. And so, this, my joy, has been fulfilled.
30 Il faut que lui grandisse et que moi je décroisse.	30 He must increase, while I must decrease.
31 Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tous; celui qui est de la terre est terrestre et parle enterrestre. Celui qui vient du ciel	31 He who comes from above, is above everything. He who is from below, is of the earth, and he speaks about the earth. He who comes from heaven is above everything.
32 témoigne de ce qu'il a vu et entendu, et son témoignage, nul ne l'accueille.	32 And what he has seen and heard, about this he testifies. And no one accepts his testimony.
33 Qui accueille son témoignage certifie que Dieu est véridique;	33 Whoever has accepted his testimony has certified that God is truthful.
34 en effet, celui que Dieu a envoyé prononce les paroles de Dieu, car il donne l'Esprit sans mesure.	34 For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God. For God does not give the Spirit by measure.
35 Le Père aime le Fils et a tout remis dans sa main.	35 The Father loves the Son, and he has given everything into his hand.
36 Qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle; qui refuse de croire au Fils ne verra pas la vie; mais la colère deDieu demeure sur lui."	36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. But whoever is unbelieving toward the Son shall not see life; instead the wrath of God remains upon him.”
