1 Ayant appelé à lui ses douze disciples, Jésus leur donna pouvoir sur les esprits impurs, de façon àles expulser et à guérir toute maladie et toute langueur.	1 And having called his twelve disciples together, he gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of diseases, and all manner of infirmities.
2 Les noms des douze apôtres sont les suivants: le premier, Simon appelé Pierre, et André sonfrère; puis Jacques, le fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère;	2 And the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother,
3 Philippe et Barthélemy; Thomas et Matthieu le publicain; Jacques, le fils d'Alphée, et Thaddée;	3 James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the publican, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus,
4 Simon le Zélé et Judas l'Iscariote, celui-là même qui l'a livré.	4 Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
5 Ces douze, Jésus les envoya en mission avec les prescriptions suivantes: "Ne prenez pas lechemin des païens et n'entrez pas dans une ville de Samaritains;	5 These twelve Jesus sent: commanding them, saying: Go ye not into the way of the Gentiles, and into the city of the Samaritans enter ye not.
6 allez plutôt vers les brebis perdues de la maison d'Israël.	6 But go ye rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 Chemin faisant, proclamez que le Royaume des Cieux est tout proche.	7 And going, preach, saying: The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Guérissez les malades, ressuscitez les morts, purifiez les lépreux, expulsez les démons. Vous avezreçu gratuitement, donnez gratuitement.	8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils: freely have you received, freely give.
9 Ne vous procurez ni or, ni argent, ni menue monnaie pour vos ceintures,	9 Do not possess gold, nor silver, nor money in your purses:
10 ni besace pour la route, ni deux tuniques, ni sandales, ni bâton: car l'ouvrier mérite sa nourriture.	10 Nor scrip for your journey, nor two coats, nor shoes, nor a staff; for the workman is worthy of his meat.
11 "En quelque ville ou village que vous entriez, faites-vous indiquer quelqu'un d'honorable etdemeurez-y jusqu'à ce que vous partiez.	11 And into whatsoever city or town you shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there abide till you go thence.
12 En entrant dans la maison, saluez-la:	12 And when you come into the house, salute it, saying: Peace be to this house.
13 si cette maison en est digne, que votre paix vienne sur elle; si elle ne l'est pas, que votre paixvous soit retournée.	13 And if that house be worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it be not worthy, your peace shall return to you.
14 Et si quelqu'un ne vous accueille pas et n'écoute pas vos paroles, sortez de cette maison ou decette ville et secouez la poussière de vos pieds.	14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words: going forth out of that house or city shake off the dust from your feet.
15 En vérité je vous le dis: au Jour du Jugement, il y aura moins de rigueur pour le pays de Sodomeet de Gomorrhe que pour cette ville-là.	15 Amen I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
16 Voici que je vous envoie comme des brebis au milieu des loups; montrez-vous donc prudentscomme les serpents et candides comme les colombes.	16 Behold I send you as sheep in the midst of wolves. Be ye therefore wise as serpents and simple as doves.
17 "Méfiez-vous des hommes: ils vous livreront aux sanhédrins et vous flagelleront dans leurssynagogues;	17 But beware of men. For they will deliver you up in councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues.
18 vous serez traduits devant des gouverneurs et des rois, à cause de moi, pour rendre témoignageen face d'eux et des païens.	18 And you shall be brought before governors, and before kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles:
19 Mais, lorsqu'on vous livrera, ne cherchez pas avec inquiétude comment parler ou que dire: ceque vous aurez à dire vous sera donné sur le moment,	19 But when they shall deliver you up, take no thought how or what to speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what to speak.
20 car ce n'est pas vous qui parlerez, mais l'Esprit de votre Père qui parlera en vous.	20 For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you.
21 "Le frère livrera son frère à la mort, et le père son enfant; les enfants se dresseront contre leursparents et les feront mourir.	21 The brother also shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the son: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and shall put them to death.
22 Et vous serez haïs de tous à cause de mon nom, mais celui qui aura tenu bon jusqu'au bout,celui-là sera sauvé.	22 And you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.
23 "Si l'on vous pourchasse dans telle ville, fuyez dans telle autre, et si l'on vous pourchasse danscelle-là, fuyez dans une troisième; en vérité je vous le dis, vous n'achèverez pas le tour des villes d'Israël avantque ne vienne le Fils de l'homme.	23 And when they shall persecute you in this city, flee into another. Amen I say to you, you shall not finish all the cities of Israel, till the Son of man come.
24 "Le disciple n'est pas au-dessus du maître, ni le serviteur au-dessus de son patron.	24 The disciple is not above the master, nor the servant above his lord.
25 Il suffit pour le disciple qu'il devienne comme son maître, et le serviteur comme son patron. Dumoment qu'ils ont traité de Béelzéboul le maître de maison, que ne diront-ils pas de sa maisonnée!	25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the goodman of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household?
26 "N'allez donc pas les craindre! Rien, en effet, n'est voilé qui ne sera révélé, rien de caché qui nesera connu.	26 Therefore fear them not. For nothing is covered that shall not be revealed: nor hid, that shall not be known.
27 Ce que je vous dis dans les ténèbres, dites-le au grand jour; et ce que vous entendez dans lecreux de l'oreille, proclamez-le sur les toits.	27 That which I tell you in the dark, speak ye in the light: and that which you hear in the ear, preach ye upon the housetops.
28 "Ne craignez rien de ceux qui tuent le corps, mais ne peuvent tuer l'âme; craignez plutôt Celuiqui peut perdre dans la géhenne à la fois l'âme et le corps.	28 And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell.
29 Ne vend-on pas deux passereaux pour un as? Et pas un d'entre eux ne tombera au sol à l'insu devotre Père!	29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father.
30 Et vous donc! vos cheveux même sont tous comptés!	30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Soyez donc sans crainte; vous valez mieux, vous, qu'une multitude de passereaux.	31 Fear not therefore: better are you than many sparrows.
32 "Quiconque se déclarera pour moi devant les hommes, moi aussi je me déclarerai pour luidevant mon Père qui est dans les cieux;	32 Every one therefore that shall confess me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven.
33 mais celui qui m'aura renié devant les hommes, à mon tour je le renierai devant mon Père qui estdans les cieux.	33 But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.
34 "N'allez pas croire que je sois venu apporter la paix sur la terre; je ne suis pas venu apporter lapaix, mais le glaive.	34 Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword.
35 Car je suis venu opposer l'homme à son père, la fille à sa mère et la bru à sa belle-mère:	35 For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 on aura pour ennemis les gens de sa famille.	36 And as a man's enemies shall be they of his own household.
37 "Qui aime son père ou sa mère plus que moi n'est pas digne de moi. Qui aime son fils ou sa filleplus que moi n'est pas digne de moi.	37 He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.
38 Qui ne prend pas sa croix et ne suit pas derrière moi n'est pas digne de moi.	38 And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me.
39 Qui aura trouvé sa vie la perdra et qui aura perdu sa vie à cause de moi la trouvera.	39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for me, shall find it.
40 "Qui vous accueille m'accueille, et qui m'accueille accueille Celui qui m'a envoyé.	40 He that receiveth you, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
41 "Qui accueille un prophète en tant que prophète recevra une récompense de prophète, et quiaccueille un juste en tant que juste recevra une récompense de juste.	41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive the reward of a prophet: and he that receiveth a just man in the name of a just man, shall receive the reward of a just man.
42 "Quiconque donnera à boire à l'un de ces petits rien qu'un verre d'eau fraîche, en tant qu'il est undisciple, en vérité je vous le dis, il ne perdra pas sa récompense."	42 And whosoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, amen I say to you, he shall not lose his reward.
