Livre d'Amos 5

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ecoutez cette parole que je profère contre vous, une lamentation, maison d'Israël:	1 Listen to this word which I utter against you, it is a dirge, House of Israel:
2 Elle est tombée, elle ne se relèvera plus, la vierge d'Israël! Elle est étendue sur son sol, personne pourla relever!	2 She has fal en down, never to rise again, the virgin Israel. There she lies on her own soil, with no oneto lift her up.
3 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahvé: la ville qui mettait en campagne mille hommes n'en aura plus quecent, et celle qui en mettait cent n'en aura plus que dix, pour la maison d'Israël.	3 For Lord Yahweh says this: The town which used to put a thousand in the field wil be left with ahundred, and the one which used to put a hundred will be left with ten, to fight for the House of Israel.
4 Car ainsi parle Yahvé à la maison d'Israël: Cherchez-moi et vous vivrez!	4 For Yahweh says this to the House of Israel: Seek me out and you wil survive,
5 Mais ne cherchez pas Béthel, n'allez pas à Gilgal, ne passez pas à Bersabée; car Gilgal ira endéportation et Béthel deviendra néant.	5 but do not seek out Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba, for Gilgal is going intocaptivity and Bethel will be brought to nothing.
6 Cherchez Yahvé et vous vivrez, de peur qu'il ne fonde comme le feu sur la maison de Joseph, qu'il nedévore, et personne à Béthel pour éteindre!	6 Seek out Yahweh and you wil survive or else he wil sweep like fire upon the House of Joseph andburn it down, with no one at Bethel able to quench the flames.
7 Ils changent le droit en absinthe et jettent à terre la justice.	7 They turn justice into wormwood and throw uprightness to the ground.
8 C'est lui qui fait les Pléiades et Orion, qui change en matin les ténèbres épaisses et obscurcit le jourcomme la nuit; lui qui appelle les eaux de la mer et les répand sur la face de la terre; Yahvé est son nom.	8 He it is who makes the Pleiades and Orion, who turns shadow dark as death into morning and day todarkest night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the surface of the land. Yahweh is hisname.
9 Il déchaîne la dévastation sur celui qui est fort, et la dévastation arrive sur la citadelle.	9 He brings destruction on the strong and ruin comes on the fortress.
10 Ils haïssent quiconque réprimande à la Porte, ils abhorrent celui qui parle avec intégrité.	10 They hate the man who teaches justice at the city gate and detest anyone who declares the truth.
11 Eh bien! puisque vous piétinez le faible et que vous prélevez sur lui un tribut de froment, cesmaisons en pierres de taille que vous avez bâties, vous n'y habiterez pas; ces vignes délicieuses que vous avezplantées, vous n'en boirez pas le vin.	11 For trampling on the poor man and for extorting levies on his wheat: although you have built housesof dressed stone, you wil not live in them; although you have planted pleasant vineyards, you wil not drink winefrom them:
12 Car je sais combien nombreux sont vos crimes, énormes vos péchés, oppresseurs du juste,extorqueurs de rançons, vous qui, à la Porte, déboutez les pauvres.	12 for I know how many your crimes are and how outrageous your sins, you oppressors of the upright,who hold people to ransom and thrust the poor aside at the gates.
13 Voilà pourquoi l'homme avisé se tait en ce temps-ci, car c'est un temps de malheur.	13 That is why anyone prudent keeps silent now, since the time is evil.
14 Recherchez le bien et non le mal, afin que vous viviez, et qu'ainsi Yahvé, Dieu Sabaot, soit avecvous, comme vous le dites.	14 Seek good and not evil so that you may survive, and Yahweh, God Sabaoth, be with you as you claimhe is.
15 Haïssez le mal, aimez le bien, et faites régner le droit à la Porte; peut-être Yahvé, Dieu Sabaot,prendra-t-il en pitié le reste de Joseph!	15 Hate evil, love good, let justice reign at the city gate: it may be that Yahweh, God Sabaoth, wil takepity on the remnant of Joseph.
16 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu Sabaot, le Seigneur: Sur toutes les places il y aura deslamentations, et dans toutes les rues, on dira "Hélas! Hélas!" On convoquera le laboureur au deuil et auxlamentations ceux qui savent gémir;	16 Therefore Yahweh Sabaoth, the Lord, says this: In every public square there wil be lamentation, inevery street they will cry out, 'Alas! Alas!' The farmer wil be called on to mourn, the professional mourners tolament,
17 dans toutes les vignes il y aura des lamentations, car je vais passer au milieu de toi, dit Yahvé.	17 and there wil be wailing in every vineyard, for I mean to pass through among you, Yahweh says.
18 Malheur à ceux qui soupirent après le jour de Yahvé! Que sera-t-il pour vous, le jour de Yahvé? Ilsera ténèbres, et non lumière.	18 Disaster for you who long for the Day of Yahweh! What will the Day of Yahweh mean for you? It wilmean darkness, not light,
19 Tel l'homme qui fuit devant un lion et tombe sur un ours! Il entre à la maison, appuie sa main aumur, et un serpent le mord!	19 as when someone runs away from a lion, only to meet a bear; he goes into his house and puts hishand on the wal , only for a snake to bite him.
20 N'est-il pas ténèbres, le jour de Yahvé, et non lumière? Il est obscur et sans clarté!	20 Will not the Day of Yahweh be darkness, not light, total y dark, without a ray of light?
21 Je hais, je méprise vos fêtes et je ne puis sentir vos réunions solennelles.	21 I hate, I scorn your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies.
22 Quand vous m'offrez des holocaustes... vos oblations, je ne les agrée pas, le sacrifice de vos bêtesgrasses, je ne le regarde pas.	22 When you bring me burnt offerings . . . your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at yourcommunion sacrifices of fat cattle.
23 Ecarte de moi le bruit de tes cantiques, que je n'entende pas la musique de tes harpes!	23 Spare me the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,
24 Mais que le droit coule comme de l'eau, et la justice, comme un torrent qui ne tarit pas.	24 but let justice flow like water, and uprightness like a never-failing stream!
25 Des sacrifices et des oblations, m'en avez-vous présentés au désert, pendant 40 ans, maison d'Israël?	25 Did you bring me sacrifices and oblations those forty years in the desert, House of Israel?
26 Vous emporterez Sakkut, votre roi, et l'étoile de votre dieu, Kevân, ces images que vous vous êtesfabriquées;	26 Now you must shoulder Sakkuth your king and the star of your God, Kaiwan, those idols you made foryourselves;
27 et je vous déporterai par-delà Damas, dit Yahvé - Dieu Sabaot est son nom.	27 for I am about to drive you into captivity beyond Damascus, Yahweh says -- God Sabaoth is hisname.
