Baruch 4

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Elle est le Livre des préceptes de Dieu, la Loi qui subsiste éternellement: quiconque la garde vivra,quiconque l'abandonne mourra.	1 She is the book of God's commandments, the Law that stands for ever; those who keep her shal live,those who desert her shal die.
2 Reviens, Jacob, saisis-la, marche vers la splendeur, à sa lumière:	2 Turn back, Jacob, seize her, in her radiance make your way to light:
3 ne cède pas à autrui ta gloire, à un peuple étranger tes privilèges.	3 do not yield your glory to another, your privilege to a people not your own.
4 Heureux sommes-nous, Israël: ce qui plaît à Dieu nous fut révélé!	4 Israel, blessed are we: what pleases God has been revealed to us!
5 Courage, mon peuple, mémorial d'Israël!	5 Take courage, my people, memorial of Israel!
6 Vous avez été vendus aux nations, mais non pour l'anéantissement. Ayant excité la colère de Dieu,vous avez été livrés à vos ennemis.	6 You were sold to the nations, but not for extermination. You provoked God; and so were delivered toyour enemies,
7 Car vous aviez irrité votre Créateur en sacrifiant à des démons et non à Dieu.	7 since you had angered your Creator by offering sacrifices to demons, and not to God.
8 Vous aviez oublié le Dieu éternel, votre nourricier! Vous avez aussi attristé Jérusalem, votrenourricière;	8 You had forgotten the eternal God who reared you. You had also grieved Jerusalem who nursed you,
9 elle a vu fondre sur vous la colère venue de Dieu et elle a dit: Ecoutez, voisines de Sion: Dieu m'aenvoyé grande tristesse.	9 for when she saw God's anger fal ing on you, she said: Listen, you neighbours of Zion: God has sent megreat sorrow.
10 J'ai vu la captivité de mes fils et filles que l'Eternel leur amena.	10 I have seen my sons and daughters taken into captivity, which the Eternal brought down on them.
11 Je les avais nourris avec joie; avec pleurs et tristesse je les vis partir.	11 I had reared them joyful y; in tears, in sorrow, I watched them go away.
12 Que nul ne se réjouisse sur moi, veuve et délaissée d'un grand nombre; je subis la solitude pour lespéchés de mes enfants, car ils se sont détournés de la Loi de Dieu,	12 Do not, any of you, exult over me, a widow, deserted by so many; I am bereaved because of the sinsof my children, who turned away from the Law of God,
13 ils n'ont point connu ses préceptes, ni marché par les voies de ses préceptes, ni suivi les sentiers dediscipline selon sa justice.	13 who did not want to know his precepts and would not fol ow the ways of his commandments or treadthe paths of discipline as his justice directed.
14 Qu'elles arrivent, les voisines de Sion! Rappelez-vous la captivité de mes fils et filles que l'Eternelleur amena!	14 Come here, neighbours of Zion! Remember my sons' and daughters' captivity, which the Eternalbrought down on them.
15 Car il amena sur eux une nation lointaine, une nation effrontée, à la langue barbare, sans respectpour le vieillard, sans pitié pour le petit enfant;	15 How he brought a distant nation down on them, a ruthless nation speaking a foreign language, theyshowed neither respect for the aged, nor pity for the child;
16 on emmena les fils chéris de la veuve, on la laissa toute seule, privée de ses filles.	16 they carried off the widow's cherished sons, they left her quite alone, bereft of her daughters.
17 Moi, comment pourrais-je vous aider?	17 For my part, how could I help you?
18 Celui qui vous amena ces malheurs, c'est lui qui vous arrachera aux mains de vos ennemis.	18 He who brought those disasters down on you, is the one to deliver you from your enemies' clutches.
19 Allez, mes enfants, allez votre chemin! Moi, je reste délaissée, solitaire;	19 Go, my children, go your way! I must stay bereft and lonely;
20 j'ai quitté la robe de paix et revêtu le sac de ma supplication; je veux crier vers l'Eternel tant que jevivrai.	20 I have taken off the clothes of peace and put on the sackcloth of entreaty; al my life I shal cry to theEternal.
21 Courage, mes enfants, criez vers Dieu: il vous arrachera à la violence et à la main de vos ennemis;	21 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he wil deliver you from tyranny, from the clutches of yourenemies;
22 car j'attends de l'Eternel votre salut, une joie m'est venue du Saint, pour la miséricorde qui bientôtvous arrivera de l'Eternel, votre Sauveur.	22 for I look to the Eternal for your rescue, and joy has come to me from the Holy One at the mercy soonto reach you from your Saviour, the Eternal.
23 Car avec tristesse et pleurs je vous ai vus partir, mais Dieu vous rendra à moi pour toujours dans lajoie et la jubilation.	23 In sorrow and tears I watched you go away, but God wil give you back to me in joy and gladness forever.
24 Comme les voisines de Sion voient maintenant votre captivité, ainsi verront-elles bientôt votresalut de par Dieu, qui vous surviendra avec grande gloire et éclat de l'Eternel.	24 As the neighbours of Zion have now witnessed your captivity, so wil they soon see your rescue byGod, which wil come upon you with great glory and splendour of the Eternal.
25 Mes enfants, supportez la colère qui de Dieu vous est venue. Ton ennemi t'a persécuté, mais bientôttu verras sa ruine et sur sa nuque tu poseras ton pied.	25 My children, patiently bear the anger brought on you by God. Your enemy has persecuted you, butsoon you wil witness his destruction and set your foot on his neck.
26 Mes enfants choyés ont marché par de rudes chemins, enlevés, tel un troupeau razzié par l'ennemi.	26 My favourite children have travel ed by rough roads, carried off like a flock by a marauding enemy.
27 Courage, mes enfants, criez vers Dieu: Celui qui vous amena cela se souviendra de vous.	27 Take courage, my children, cal on God: he who brought this on you wil remember you.
28 Comme votre pensée fut d'égarement loin de Dieu, revenus à lui, recherchez-le dix fois plus fort.	28 As by your wil you first strayed from God, so now turn back and search for him ten times harder;
29 Car Celui qui vous amena ces malheurs vous ramènera, en vous sauvant, la joie éternelle.	29 for as he has been bringing down those disasters on you, so wil he rescue you and give you eternaljoy.
30 Courage, Jérusalem: il te consolera, Celui qui t'a donné un nom.	30 Take courage, Jerusalem: he who gave you your name wil console you.
31 Malheur à ceux qui t'ont maltraitée et se sont réjouis de ta chute!	31 Disaster wil come to al who have il -treated you and gloated over your fal .
32 Malheur aux cités dont furent esclaves tes enfants, malheur à celle qui reçut tes fils!	32 Disaster wil come to the cities where your children were slaves; disaster to whichever one receivedyour children,
33 Car de même qu'elle se réjouit de ta chute et fut heureuse de ta ruine, ainsi sera-t-elle affligée poursa propre dévastation.	33 for just as she rejoiced at your fal and was happy to see you ruined, so wil she grieve over her owndesolation.
34 Je lui ôterai son allégresse de ville bien peuplée, son insolence se changera en tristesse,	34 I shall deprive her of the joy of a populous city, and her insolence wil turn to mourning;
35 un feu lui surviendra de l'Eternel pour de longs jours, elle sera la demeure de démons pourlongtemps.	35 fire from the Eternal wil befall her for many a day, and demons wil dwel in her for ages.
36 Jérusalem, regarde vers l'Orient, vois la joie qui te vient de Dieu.	36 Jerusalem, turn your eyes to the east, see the joy that is coming to you from God.
37 Voici: ils reviennent, les fils que tu vis partir, ils reviennent rassemblés du levant au couchant, surl'ordre du Saint, jubilants de la gloire de Dieu.	37 Look, the children you watched go away are on their way home; reassembled from east and west, theyare on their way home at the Holy One's command, rejoicing in God's glory.
