JERUSALEM	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Elle est le Livre des préceptes de Dieu, la Loi qui subsiste éternellement: quiconque la garde vivra,quiconque l'abandonne mourra.	1 She is the book of the precepts of God, the law that endures forever; All who cling to her will live, but those will die who forsake her.
2 Reviens, Jacob, saisis-la, marche vers la splendeur, à sa lumière:	2 Turn, O Jacob, and receive her: walk by her light toward splendor.
3 ne cède pas à autrui ta gloire, à un peuple étranger tes privilèges.	3 Give not your glory to another, your privileges to an alien race.
4 Heureux sommes-nous, Israël: ce qui plaît à Dieu nous fut révélé!	4 Blessed are we, O Israel; for what pleases God is known to us!
5 Courage, mon peuple, mémorial d'Israël!	5 Fear not, my people! Remember, Israel,
6 Vous avez été vendus aux nations, mais non pour l'anéantissement. Ayant excité la colère de Dieu,vous avez été livrés à vos ennemis.	6 You were sold to the nations not for your destruction; It was because you angered God that you were handed over to your foes.
7 Car vous aviez irrité votre Créateur en sacrifiant à des démons et non à Dieu.	7 For you provoked your Maker with sacrifices to demons, to no-gods;
8 Vous aviez oublié le Dieu éternel, votre nourricier! Vous avez aussi attristé Jérusalem, votrenourricière;	8 You forsook the Eternal God who nourished you, and you grieved Jerusalem who fostered you.
9 elle a vu fondre sur vous la colère venue de Dieu et elle a dit: Ecoutez, voisines de Sion: Dieu m'aenvoyé grande tristesse.	9 She indeed saw coming upon you the anger of God; and she said: "Hear, you neighbors of Zion! God has brought great mourning upon me,
10 J'ai vu la captivité de mes fils et filles que l'Eternel leur amena.	10 For I have seen the captivity that the Eternal God has brought upon my sons and daughters.
11 Je les avais nourris avec joie; avec pleurs et tristesse je les vis partir.	11 With joy I fostered them; but with mourning and lament I let them go.
12 Que nul ne se réjouisse sur moi, veuve et délaissée d'un grand nombre; je subis la solitude pour lespéchés de mes enfants, car ils se sont détournés de la Loi de Dieu,	12 Let no one gloat over me, a widow, bereft of many: For the sins of my children I am left desolate, because they turned from the law of God,
13 ils n'ont point connu ses préceptes, ni marché par les voies de ses préceptes, ni suivi les sentiers dediscipline selon sa justice.	13 and did not acknowledge his statutes; In the ways of God's commandments they did not walk, nor did they tread the disciplined paths of his justice.
14 Qu'elles arrivent, les voisines de Sion! Rappelez-vous la captivité de mes fils et filles que l'Eternelleur amena!	14 "Let Zion's neighbors come, to take note of the captivity of my sons and daughters, brought upon them by the Eternal God.
15 Car il amena sur eux une nation lointaine, une nation effrontée, à la langue barbare, sans respectpour le vieillard, sans pitié pour le petit enfant;	15 He has brought against them a nation from afar, a nation ruthless and of alien speech, That has neither reverence for age nor tenderness for childhood;
16 on emmena les fils chéris de la veuve, on la laissa toute seule, privée de ses filles.	16 They have led away this widow's cherished sons, have left me solitary, without daughters.
17 Moi, comment pourrais-je vous aider?	17 What can I do to help you?
18 Celui qui vous amena ces malheurs, c'est lui qui vous arrachera aux mains de vos ennemis.	18 He who has brought this evil upon you must himself deliver you from your enemies' hands.
19 Allez, mes enfants, allez votre chemin! Moi, je reste délaissée, solitaire;	19 Farewell, my children, farewell: I am left desolate.
20 j'ai quitté la robe de paix et revêtu le sac de ma supplication; je veux crier vers l'Eternel tant que jevivrai.	20 I have taken off the garment of peace, have put on sackcloth for my prayer of supplication, and while I live I will cry out to the Eternal God.
21 Courage, mes enfants, criez vers Dieu: il vous arrachera à la violence et à la main de vos ennemis;	21 "Fear not, my children; call upon God, who will deliver you from oppression at enemy hands.
22 car j'attends de l'Eternel votre salut, une joie m'est venue du Saint, pour la miséricorde qui bientôtvous arrivera de l'Eternel, votre Sauveur.	22 I have trusted in the Eternal God for your welfare, and joy has come to me from the Holy One Because of the mercy that will swiftly reach you from your eternal savior.
23 Car avec tristesse et pleurs je vous ai vus partir, mais Dieu vous rendra à moi pour toujours dans lajoie et la jubilation.	23 With mourning and lament I sent you forth, but God will give you back to me with enduring gladness and joy.
24 Comme les voisines de Sion voient maintenant votre captivité, ainsi verront-elles bientôt votresalut de par Dieu, qui vous surviendra avec grande gloire et éclat de l'Eternel.	24 As Zion's neighbors lately saw you taken captive, so shall they soon see God's salvation come to you, with great glory and the splendor of the Eternal God.
25 Mes enfants, supportez la colère qui de Dieu vous est venue. Ton ennemi t'a persécuté, mais bientôttu verras sa ruine et sur sa nuque tu poseras ton pied.	25 "My children, bear patiently the anger that has come from God upon you; Your enemies have persecuted you, and you will soon see their destruction and trample upon their necks.
26 Mes enfants choyés ont marché par de rudes chemins, enlevés, tel un troupeau razzié par l'ennemi.	26 My pampered children have trodden rough roads, carried off by their enemies like sheep in a raid.
27 Courage, mes enfants, criez vers Dieu: Celui qui vous amena cela se souviendra de vous.	27 Fear not, my children; call out to God! He who brought this upon you will remember you.
28 Comme votre pensée fut d'égarement loin de Dieu, revenus à lui, recherchez-le dix fois plus fort.	28 As your hearts have been disposed to stray from God, turn now ten times the more to seek him;
29 Car Celui qui vous amena ces malheurs vous ramènera, en vous sauvant, la joie éternelle.	29 For he who has brought disaster upon you will, in saving you, bring you back enduring joy."
30 Courage, Jérusalem: il te consolera, Celui qui t'a donné un nom.	30 Fear not, Jerusalem! He who gave you your name is your encouragement.
31 Malheur à ceux qui t'ont maltraitée et se sont réjouis de ta chute!	31 Fearful are those who harmed you, who rejoiced at your downfall;
32 Malheur aux cités dont furent esclaves tes enfants, malheur à celle qui reçut tes fils!	32 Fearful are the cities where your children were enslaved, fearful the city that took your sons.
33 Car de même qu'elle se réjouit de ta chute et fut heureuse de ta ruine, ainsi sera-t-elle affligée poursa propre dévastation.	33 As that city rejoiced at your collapse, and made merry at your downfall, so shall she grieve over her own desolation.
34 Je lui ôterai son allégresse de ville bien peuplée, son insolence se changera en tristesse,	34 I will take from her the joyous throngs, and her exultation shall be turned to mourning:
35 un feu lui surviendra de l'Eternel pour de longs jours, elle sera la demeure de démons pourlongtemps.	35 For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal God, for a long time, and demons shall dwell in her from that time on.
36 Jérusalem, regarde vers l'Orient, vois la joie qui te vient de Dieu.	36 Look to the east, Jerusalem! behold the joy that comes to you from God.
37 Voici: ils reviennent, les fils que tu vis partir, ils reviennent rassemblés du levant au couchant, surl'ordre du Saint, jubilants de la gloire de Dieu.	37 Here come your sons whom you once let go, gathered in from the east and from the west By the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the glory of God.
