JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Car ton esprit incorruptible est en toutes choses!	1 For thine incorruptible Spirit is in all things.
2 Aussi est-ce peu à peu que tu reprends ceux qui tombent; tu les avertis, leur rappelant en quoi ilspèchent, pour que, débarrassés du mal, ils croient en toi, Seigneur.	2 Therefore chastenest thou them by little and little that offend, and warnest them by putting them in remembrance wherein they have offended, that leaving their wickedness they may believe on thee, O Lord.
3 Les anciens habitants de ta terre sainte,	3 For it was thy will to destroy by the hands of our fathers both those old inhabitants of thy holy land,
4 tu les avais pris en haine pour leurs détestables pratiques, actes de sorcellerie, rites impies.	4 Whom thou hatedst for doing most odious works of witchcrafts, and wicked sacrifices;
5 Ces impitoyables tueurs d'enfants, ces mangeurs d'entrailles en des banquets de chairs humaines etde sang, ces initiés membres de confrérie,	5 And also those merciless murderers of children, and devourers of man's flesh, and the feasts of blood,
6 ces parents meurtriers d'êtres sans défense, tu avais voulu les faire périr par les mains de nos pères,	6 With their priests out of the midst of their idolatrous crew, and the parents, that killed with their own hands souls destitute of help:
7 pour que cette terre, qui de toutes t'est la plus chère, reçût une digne colonie d'enfants de Dieu.	7 That the land, which thou esteemedst above all other, might receive a worthy colony of God's children.
8 Eh bien! même ceux-là, parce que c'étaient des hommes, tu les as ménagés, et tu as envoyé desfrelons comme avant-coureurs de ton armée, pour les exterminer petit à petit.	8 Nevertheless even those thou sparedst as men, and didst send wasps, forerunners of thine host, to destroy them by little and little.
9 Non qu'il te fût impossible de livrer des impies aux mains de justes en une bataille rangée, ou deles anéantir d'un seul coup au moyen de bêtes cruelles ou d'une parole inexorable;	9 Not that thou wast unable to bring the ungodly under the hand of the righteous in battle, or to destroy them at once with cruel beasts, or with one rough word:
10 mais en exerçant tes jugements peu à peu, tu laissais place au repentir. Tu n'ignorais pourtant pasque leur nature était perverse, leur malice innée, et que leur mentalité ne changerait jamais;	10 But executing thy judgments upon them by little and little, thou gavest them place of repentance, not being ignorant that they were a naughty generation, and that their malice was bred in them, and that their cogitation would never be changed.
11 car c'était une race maudite dès l'origine. Et ce n'est pas non plus par crainte de personne que tuaccordais l'impunité à leurs fautes.	11 For it was a cursed seed from the beginning; neither didst thou for fear of any man give them pardon for those things wherein they sinned.
12 Car qui dira: Qu'as-tu fait? Ou qui s'opposera à ta sentence? Et qui te citera en justice pour avoirfait périr des nations que tu as créées? Ou qui se portera contre toi le vengeur d'hommes injustes?	12 For who shall say, What hast thou done? or who shall withstand thy judgment? or who shall accuse thee for the nations that perish, whom thou made? or who shall come to stand against thee, to be revenged for the unrighteous men?
13 Car il n'y a pas, en dehors de toi, de Dieu qui ait soin de tous, pour que tu doives lui montrer quetes jugements n'ont pas été injustes.	13 For neither is there any God but thou that careth for all, to whom thou mightest shew that thy judgment is not unright.
14 Il n'y a pas non plus de roi ou de souverain qui puisse te regarder en face au sujet de ceux que tuas châtiés.	14 Neither shall king or tyrant be able to set his face against thee for any whom thou hast punished.
15 Mais, étant juste, tu régis l'univers avec justice, et tu estimes que condamner celui qui ne doit pasêtre châtié, serait incompatible avec ta puissance.	15 Forsomuch then as thou art righteous thyself, thou orderest all things righteously: thinking it not agreeable with thy power to condemn him that hath not deserved to be punished.
16 Car ta force est le principe de ta justice, et de dominer sur tout te fait ménager tout.	16 For thy power is the beginning of righteousness, and because thou art the Lord of all, it maketh thee to be gracious unto all.
17 Tu montres ta force, si l'on ne croit pas à la plénitude de ta puissance, et tu confonds l'audace deceux qui la connaissent;	17 For when men will not believe that thou art of a full power, thou shewest thy strength, and among them that know it thou makest their boldness manifest.
18 mais toi, dominant ta force, tu juges avec modération, et tu nous gouvernes avec de grandsménagements, car tu n'as qu'à vouloir, et ta puissance est là.	18 But thou, mastering thy power, judgest with equity, and orderest us with great favour: for thou mayest use power when thou wilt.
19 En agissant ainsi, tu as appris à ton peuple que le juste doit être ami des hommes, et tu as donnéle bel espoir à tes fils qu'après les péchés tu donnes le repentir.	19 But by such works hast thou taught thy people that the just man should be merciful, and hast made thy children to be of a good hope that thou givest repentance for sins.
20 Car, si ceux qui étaient les ennemis de tes enfants et promis à la mort, tu les as punis avec tantd'attention et d'indulgence, leur donnant temps et lieu pour se défaire de leur malice,	20 For if thou didst punish the enemies of thy children, and the condemned to death, with such deliberation, giving them time and place, whereby they might be delivered from their malice:
21 avec quelle précaution n'as-tu pas jugé tes fils, toi qui, par serments et alliances, as fait à leurspères de si belles promesses?	21 With how great circumspection didst thou judge thine own sons, unto whose fathers thou hast sworn, and made covenants of good promises?
22 Ainsi, tu nous instruis, quand tu châties nos ennemis avec mesure, pour que nous songions à tabonté quand nous jugeons, et, quand nous sommes jugés, nous comptions sur la miséricorde.	22 Therefore, whereas thou dost chasten us, thou scourgest our enemies a thousand times more, to the intent that, when we judge, we should carefully think of thy goodness, and when we ourselves are judged, we should look for mercy.
23 Voilà pourquoi aussi ceux qui avaient mené dans l'injustice une vie insensée, tu les as torturés parleurs propres abominations;	23 Wherefore, whereas men have lived dissolutely and unrighteously, thou hast tormented them with their own abominations.
24 car ils avaient erré trop loin sur les chemins de l'erreur, en prenant pour des dieux les plus vils etles plus méprisés des animaux, trompés comme de tout petits enfants sans intelligence.	24 For they went astray very far in the ways of error, and held them for gods, which even among the beasts of their enemies were despised, being deceived, as children of no understanding.
25 Aussi, comme à des enfants sans raison, leur as-tu envoyé un jugement de dérision.	25 Therefore unto them, as to children without the use of reason, thou didst send a judgment to mock them.
26 Mais ceux qui ne s'étaient pas laissé avertir par une réprimande dérisoire allaient subir unjugement digne de Dieu.	26 But they that would not be reformed by that correction, wherein he dallied with them, shall feel a judgment worthy of God.
27 Sur ces êtres qui les faisaient souffrir et contre lesquels ils s'indignaient, ces êtres qu'ils tenaientpour dieux et par lesquels ils étaient châtiés, ils virent clair, et celui que jadis ils refusaient de connaître, ils lereconnurent pour vrai Dieu. Et c'est pourquoi l'ultime condamnation s'abattit sur eux.	27 For, look, for what things they grudged, when they were punished, that is, for them whom they thought to be gods; [now] being punished in them, when they saw it, they acknowledged him to be the true God, whom before they denied to know: and therefore came extreme damnation upon them.
