Livre de la Genèse 15

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Après ces événements, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Abram, dans une vision: "Ne crains pas,Abram! Je suis ton bouclier, ta récompense sera très grande."	1 Some time later, the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision: Do not be afraid, Abram! I am yourshield and shal give you a very great reward.
2 Abram répondit: "Mon Seigneur Yahvé, que me donnerais-tu? Je m'en vais sans enfant..."	2 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'what use are your gifts, as I am going on my way childless? . . .
3 Abram dit: "Voici que tu ne m'as pas donné de descendance et qu'un des gens de ma maisonhéritera de moi."	3 Since you have given me no offspring,' Abram continued, 'a member of my household will be my heir.'
4 Alors cette parole de Yahvé lui fut adressée: "Celui-là ne sera pas ton héritier, mais bien quelqu'unissu de ton sang."	4 Then Yahweh's word came to him in reply, 'Such a one wil not be your heir; no, your heir will be theissue of your own body.'
5 Il le conduisit dehors et dit: "Lève les yeux au ciel et dénombre les étoiles si tu peux lesdénombrer" et il lui dit: "Telle sera ta postérité."	5 Then taking him outside, he said, 'Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. Just so wil yourdescendants be,' he told him.
6 Abram crut en Yahvé, qui le lui compta comme justice.	6 Abram put his faith in Yahweh and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.
7 Il lui dit: "Je suis Yahvé qui t'ai fait sortir d'Ur des Chaldéens, pour te donner ce pays enpossession."	7 He then said to him, 'I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldaeans to give you thiscountry as your possession.'
8 Abram répondit: "Mon Seigneur Yahvé, à quoi saurai-je que je le posséderai?"	8 'Lord Yahweh,' Abram replied, 'how can I know that I shal possess it?'
9 Il lui dit: "Va me chercher une génisse de trois ans, une chèvre de trois ans, un bélier de trois ans,une tourterelle et un pigeonneau."	9 He said to him, 'Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old she-goat, a three-year-old ram, aturtledove and a young pigeon.'
10 Il lui amena tous ces animaux, les partagea par le milieu et plaça chaque moitié vis-à-vis del'autre; cependant il ne partagea pas les oiseaux.	10 He brought him all these, split the animals down the middle and placed each half opposite the other;but the birds he did not divide.
11 Les rapaces s'abattirent sur les cadavres, mais Abram les chassa.	11 And whenever birds of prey swooped down on the carcases, Abram drove them off.
12 Comme le soleil allait se coucher, une torpeur tomba sur Abram et voici qu'un grand effroi lesaisit.	12 Now, as the sun was on the point of setting, a trance fel on Abram, and a deep dark dreaddescended on him.
13 Yahvé dit à Abram: "Sache bien que tes descendants seront des étrangers dans un pays qui ne serapas le leur. Ils y seront esclaves, on les opprimera pendant 400 ans.	13 Then Yahweh said to Abram, 'Know this for certain, that your descendants will be exiles in a land nottheir own, and be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.
14 Mais je jugerai aussi la nation à laquelle ils auront été asservis et ils sortiront ensuite avec degrands biens.	14 But I shal bring judgement on the nation that enslaves them and after this they wil leave, with manypossessions.
15 Pour toi, tu t'en iras en paix avec tes pères, tu seras enseveli dans une vieillesse heureuse.	15 For your part, you wil join your ancestors in peace; you wil be buried at a happy old age.
16 C'est à la quatrième génération qu'ils reviendront ici, car jusque-là l'iniquité des Amorites n'aurapas atteint son comble."	16 In the fourth generation they wil come back here, for until then the iniquity of the Amorites wil nothave reached its ful extent.'
17 Quand le soleil fut couché et que les ténèbres s'étendirent, voici qu'un four fumant et un brandonde feu passèrent entre les animaux partagés.	17 When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passingbetween the animals' pieces.
18 Ce jour-là Yahvé conclut une alliance avec Abram en ces termes: "A ta postérité je donne ce pays,du Fleuve d'Egypte jusqu'au Grand Fleuve, le fleuve d'Euphrate,	18 That day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram in these terms: 'To your descendants I give thiscountry, from the River of Egypt to the Great River, the River Euphrates,
19 les Qénites, les Qenizzites, les Qadmonites,	19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,
20 les Hittites, les Perizzites, les Rephaïm, les Amorites, les Cananéens, les Girgashites et lesJébuséens."	20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
	21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.'
