| 1 Le Seigneur prononça ensuite toutes ces paroles : | 1 And God spake all these words, saying, |
| 2 Je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu, qui t'ai tiré de l'Egypte, de la maison de servitude. | 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. |
| 3 Tu n'auras point d'autres dieux (étrangers) devant moi. | 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. |
| 4 Tu ne te feras point d'image taillée, ni aucune figure (représentation) de tout ce qui est en haut dans le ciel, et en bas sur la terre, ni de tout ce qui est dans les eaux sous la terre. | 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: |
| 5 Tu ne les adoreras point et tu ne leur rendras point le souverain culte ; car je suis le Seigneur ton Dieu, fort et jaloux, qui venge l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu'à la troisième et quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent. | 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; |
| 6 Et qui fais miséricorde jusqu'à mille générations (des milliers de fois) à ceux qui m'aiment et qui gardent mes préceptes. | 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. |
| 7 Tu ne prendras point en vain le nom du Seigneur ton Dieu, car le Seigneur ne tiendra point pour innocent celui qui aura pris en vain le nom du Seigneur son Dieu. | 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. |
| 8 Souviens-toi de sanctifier le jour du sabbat. | 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. |
| 9 Tu travailleras durant six jours, et tu y feras tous tes travaux (ouvrages) ; | 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: |
| 10 mais le septième jour est le jour du repos du Seigneur ton Dieu. Tu ne feras en ce jour aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bétail, ni l'étranger qui est dans tes portes. | 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: |
| 11 Car le Seigneur a fait en six jours le ciel, la terre et la mer, et tout ce qui y est renfermé, et il s'est reposé le septième jour. C'est pourquoi le Seigneur a béni le jour du sabbat et l'a sanctifié. | 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. |
| 12 Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que tu vives longtemps sur la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donnera. | 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. |
| 13 Tu ne tueras point. | 13 Thou shalt not kill. |
| 14 Tu ne commettras point d'adultère. | 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. |
| 15 Tu ne déroberas point. | 15 Thou shalt not steal. |
| 16 Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain. | 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. |
| 17 Tu ne désireras point la maison de ton prochain ; tu ne désireras point sa femme, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni aucune de toutes les choses qui lui appartiennent. | 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. |
| 18 Or tout le peuple entendait les tonnerres et le son de la trompette, et voyait les lampes ardentes (éclairs) et la montagne toute couverte de fumée. Et dans la crainte et effroi dont ils étaient saisis, ils se tinrent éloignés, | 18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. |
| 19 et ils dirent (disant) à Moïse : Parle-nous toi-même, et nous t'écouterons ; mais que le Seigneur ne nous parle point, de peur que nous ne mourions. | 19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die. |
| 20 Moïse répondit au peuple : Ne craignez point, car Dieu est venu pour vous éprouver et pour imprimer sa crainte en vous, afin que vous ne péchiez point. | 20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. |
| 21 Le peuple demeura donc à distance, et Moïse s'approcha de la nuée où était Dieu. | 21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. |
| 22 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse : Tu diras ceci aux enfants d'Israël : Vous avez vu que c'est du (haut du) ciel que je vous ai parlé. | 22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. |
| 23 Vous ne ferez point de dieux d'argent, ni de dieux d'or. | 23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold. |
| 24 Vous me dresserez un autel de terre sur lequel vous m'offrirez vos holocaustes et vos hosties pacifiques, vos brebis et vos bœufs, en tous les lieux où la mémoire de mon nom sera établie ; je viendrai à vous et je vous bénirai. | 24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee. |
| 25 Que si tu me fais un autel de pierre, tu ne le bâtiras point de pierres taillées ; car si tu emploies le ciseau (lève le couteau dessus), il sera souillé. | 25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. |
| 26 Tu ne monteras point par des degrés à mon autel, de peur que ta nudité ne soit découverte. | 26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon. |
