1 Ao preguiçoso é atirado esterco, só se fala dele com desprezo.	1 The lazy man is pelted with a dirty stone, and all will speak about his rejection.
2 O preguiçoso é apedrejado com excremento, quem o tocar sacudirá a mão.	2 The lazy man is pelted with the dung of oxen, and all who touch him will brush off their hands.
3 O filho mal educado é a vergonha de seu pai, a filha semelhante não gozará de nenhuma consideração.	3 An undisciplined son is the shame of his father, but an undisciplined daughter will be to his degradation.
4 Um jovem prudente é uma herança para o marido, mas a filha desavergonhada causa mágoa ao seu pai.	4 A prudent daughter brings an inheritance to her husband. But she who causes shame will be a disgrace to him who conceived her.
5 A mulher atrevida cobre de vergonha o pai e o marido; e é igual aos celerados: ambos a desprezam.	5 She who is bold shames her father and her husband, and she will not be less offensive to the impious. For she will be held in dishonor by both.
6 Uma palavra inoportuna é música em dia de luto; a sabedoria, porém, emprega com oportunidade o chicote e a instrução.	6 An untimely explanation is like music in a time of mourning. But the sharp correction and doctrine of wisdom are ever timely.
7 Instruir um insensato é tornar a ajustar um vaso quebrado;	7 Whoever teaches the foolish is like someone who glues together a broken pot.
8 falar a quem não ouve é como despertar alguém de um sono profundo.	8 Whoever explains a word to one who is not listening is like someone who suddenly awakens a sleeping person from a deep sleep.
9 Falar da sabedoria com um insensato é conversar com alguém que está adormecendo; no fim da conversa ele dirá: Que é?	9 Whoever explains wisdom to the senseless is like one speaking to a sleeping person. And at the end of the explanation, he says: “Who is this?”
10 Chora sobre um morto, porque ele perdeu a luz; chora sobre um tolo, porque é falho de juízo.	10 Weep over the dead, for his light has failed. And weep over the foolish, for his understanding has failed.
11 Chora menos sobre um morto, porque ele achou o repouso;	11 Weep only a little over the dead, for he is at rest.
12 a vida criminosa do mau, porém, é pior do que a morte.	12 But the wicked life of a wicked fool is worse than death.
13 O luto por um morto dura sete dias, mas por um insensato e um ímpio, dura toda a sua vida.	13 The mourning for the dead is seven days; but for the foolish and the impious, it is all the days of their life.
14 Não fales muito com um estulto; não convivas com o insensato.	14 You should not talk at length with the foolish, and you should not go with the senseless.
15 Acautela-te contra ele, para não seres incomodado; e não te mancharás com o contágio de se u pecado.	15 Keep yourself from him, so that you may not have problems, and so that you will not be polluted by his sin.
16 Afasta-te dele: encontrarás repouso, e a sua loucura não te causará mágoa.	16 Turn away from him, and you will find rest, and you will not be discouraged by his foolishness.
17 O que há de mais pesado que o chumbo? E que outro nome dar-lhe a não ser o de insensato?	17 What is heavier than lead? And what else can he be called but foolish?
18 É mais fácil carregar areia, sal ou uma barra de ferro, do que suportar o imprudente, o tolo e o ímpio.	18 Sand, and salt, and an iron weight are each easier to bear than an imprudent man, who is both foolish and impious.
19 Um encaixamento de madeira adaptado aos alicerces de um edifício não se desconjunta. Assim é o coração firmado por uma decisão bem amadurecida.	19 A bundle of wood strapped together in the foundation of a building will not be loosened. And similar is the heart that has been strengthened by thoughtful counsel.
20 O desígnio de um homem sensato, em qualquer tempo que seja, não será alterado pelo temor.	20 The thoughts of one who is understanding will not be corrupted by fear in any situation.
21 Como a estacada posta em lugar elevado e a parede sem argamassa não podem resistir à violência do vento,	21 Just as chaff in a high place, or a wall made of mortar without stones set within, will not continue against the face of the wind,
22 assim um coração tímido, de pensamentos tolos, não pode resistir ao choque do temor.	22 so also a timid heart, and the thoughts of the senseless, will not withstand the forcefulness of fear.
23 O coração medroso do insensato jamais tem temor em seus pensamentos; assim também o que não se apóia nos preceitos divinos.	23 Despite a cowardly heart, the thoughts of the foolish will not fear any situation; yet neither will one who continues always in the precepts of God.
24 Quem machuca um olho, dele faz sair lágrimas; quem magoa um coração, nele excita a sensibilidade.	24 He who jabs an eye produces tears. And he who jabs the heart produces understanding.
25 Quem lança uma pedra aos pássaros, fá-los fugir; assim, quem insulta um amigo, rompe a amizade.	25 He who throws a stone at birds will drive them away. So also, he who accuses his friend dissolves the friendship.
26 Ainda que tenhas arrancado a espada contra o teu amigo, não desesperes; porque o regresso é possível.	26 But if you have drawn a sword against a friend, you should not despair; for there may be a way back.
27 Ainda que tenhas dito contra ele palavras desagradáveis, não temas, porque a reconciliação é possível, salvo se se tratar de injúrias, afrontas, insolências, revelação de um segredo ou golpes à traição; em todos esses casos fugirá de ti o teu amigo.	27 If you have opened a harsh mouth against a friend, you should not fear; for there may be a reconciliation. However, if there are accusations, or abuse, or arrogance, or the revealing of secrets, or a wound from deceitfulness, in all these cases, a friend will flee away.
28 Permanece fiel ao teu amigo em sua pobreza, a fim de te alegrares com ele na sua prosperidade.	28 Hold to faithfulness with a friend in his poverty, so that you may also rejoice in his prosperity.
29 Permanece-lhe fiel no tempo da aflição, a fim de teres parte com ele em sua herança.	29 In the time of his tribulation, remain faithful to him, so that you may also be an heir with him in his inheritance.
30 O vapor e a fumaça elevam-se na fornalha antes do fogo; assim o homicídio e o derramamento de sangue são precedidos de injúrias, ultrajes e ameaças.	30 Just as the steam from an oven, or the smoke from a fire, rises up before a flame, so also do curses and insults and threats rise up before bloodshed.
31 Não me envergonharei de saudar um amigo, nem me esconderei da sua presença; e se me acontecer algum mal por isso, eu o suportarei,	31 I shall not be ashamed to greet a friend, nor shall I hide myself from his face. And if misfortunes befall me because of him, I will endure.
32 mas quem o souber, dele desconfiará.	32 Anyone who hears of this will be wary around him.
33 Quem porá uma guarda à minha boca, e um selo inviolável nos meus lábios, para que eu não caia por sua causa, e para que minha língua não me perca?	33 Who will provide a keeper for my mouth, and a reliable seal over my lips, so that I may not fall because of them, and so that my tongue does not destroy me?
