| 1 Los hijos de Israel volvieron a obrar mal a los ojos del Señor y el Señor los entregó en manos de los filisteos durante cuarenta años. | 1 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD gave them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years. |
| 2 Había en Sorá un hombre de estirpe danita, llamado Manoj. Su esposa era estéril y no tenía hijos. | 2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the tribe of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children. |
| 3 El ángel del Señor se apareció a la mujer y le dijo: «Eres estéril y no has engendrado. Pero concebirás y darás a luz un hijo. | 3 And the angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, "Behold, you are barren and have no children; but you shall conceive and bear a son. |
| 4 Ahora, guárdate de beber vino o licor, y no comas nada impuro, | 4 Therefore beware, and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, |
| 5 pues concebirás y darás a luz un hijo. La navaja no pasará por su cabeza, porque el niño será un nazir de Dios desde el seno materno. Él comenzará a salvar a Israel de la mano de los filisteos». | 5 for lo, you shall conceive and bear a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the boy shall be a Nazirite to God from birth; and he shall begin to deliver Israel from the hand of the Philistines." |
| 6 La mujer dijo al esposo: «Ha venido a verme un hombre de Dios. Su semblante era como el semblante de un ángel de Dios, muy terrible. No le pregunté de dónde era, ni me dio a conocer su nombre. | 6 Then the woman came and told her husband, "A man of God came to me, and his countenance was like the countenance of the angel of God, very terrible; I did not ask him whence he was, and he did not tell me his name; |
| 7 Me dijo: «He aquí que concebirás y darás a luz un hijo. Ahora, pues, no bebas vino o licor, y no comas nada impuro; porque el niño será nazir de Dios desde el seno materno hasta el día de su muerte». | 7 but he said to me, 'Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son; so then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the boy shall be a Nazirite to God from birth to the day of his death.'" |
| 8 Manoj imploró así al Señor: «Te ruego, Señor mío, que venga nuevamente a nosotros el hombre de Dios que enviaste, para que nos indique qué hemos de hacer con el niño que nazca». | 8 Then Manoah entreated the LORD, and said, "O, LORD, I pray thee, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again to us, and teach us what we are to do with the boy that will be born." |
| 9 Dios escuchó la voz de Manoj, y el ángel de Dios se presentó de nuevo a la mujer, cuando se encontraba en el campo. Su esposo Manoj no estaba con ella. | 9 And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field; but Manoah her husband was not with her. |
| 10 Al punto, la mujer corrió a anunciárselo a su marido. Le dijo: «Se me ha aparecido el hombre que vino a verme el otro día». | 10 And the woman ran in haste and told her husband, "Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me." |
| 11 Manoj se levantó y siguió a su esposa. Llegó donde estaba el hombre y le preguntó: «¿Eres tú el hombre que habló a mi esposa?». Respondió: «Yo soy». | 11 And Manoah arose and went after his wife, and came to the man and said to him, "Are you the man who spoke to this woman?" And he said, "I am." |
| 12 Manoj dijo: «Ahora que se van a cumplir tus palabras, ¿cuál será la norma de vida del niño y el comportamiento respecto a su misión?». | 12 And Manoah said, "Now when your words come true, what is to be the boy's manner of life, and what is he to do?" |
| 13 El ángel del Señor le respondió: «La mujer ha de guardarse de todo cuanto le dije. | 13 And the angel of the LORD said to Manoah, "Of all that I said to the woman let her beware. |
| 14 No probará nada que provenga del fruto de la vid. No beberá vino o licor, ni probará nada impuro. Guardará cuanto le ordené». | 14 She may not eat of anything that comes from the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, or eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe." |
| 15 Manoj dijo al ángel del Señor: «Permítenos retenerte y que te preparemos un cabrito». | 15 Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Pray, let us detain you, and prepare a kid for you." |
| 16 Pero el ángel del Señor le respondió: «Aunque me retengas, no probaré tu pan. Pero, si quieres ofrecer un holocausto al Señor, hazlo». Y es que Manoj no sabía que se trataba del ángel del Señor. | 16 And the angel of the LORD said to Manoah, "If you detain me, I will not eat of your food; but if you make ready a burnt offering, then offer it to the LORD." (For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the LORD.) |
| 17 Manoj le preguntó: «¿Cuál es tu nombre, para que podamos honrarte, cuando se cumplan tus palabras?». | 17 And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "What is your name, so that, when your words come true, we may honor you?" |
| 18 El ángel del Señor le respondió: «¿Por qué preguntas mi nombre? Es misterioso». | 18 And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?" |
| 19 Manoj tomó el cabrito y la ofrenda, y lo ofreció sobre la peña al Señor que obra misteriosamente. Manoj y su esposa observaban. | 19 So Manoah took the kid with the cereal offering, and offered it upon the rock to the LORD, to him who works wonders. |
| 20 Al subir al cielo la llama del altar, subió el ángel del Señor con la llama del altar. Cuando Manoj y su esposa lo vieron, cayeron rostro a tierra. | 20 And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar while Manoah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground. |
| 21 Y el ángel del Señor no volvió a aparecérseles. Entonces supo Manoj que se trataba del ángel del Señor. | 21 The angel of the LORD appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD. |
| 22 Y le dijo a su esposa: «Seguramente vamos a morir, pues hemos visto a Dios». | 22 And Manoah said to his wife, "We shall surely die, for we have seen God." |
| 23 Pero su esposa repuso: «Si el Señor hubiera querido matarnos, no habría recibido de nuestras manos ni el holocausto ni la ofrenda, ni nos habría mostrado todo esto, ni nos habría hecho oír algo semejante». | 23 But his wife said to him, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a cereal offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these." |
| 24 La mujer dio a luz un hijo, al que puso el nombre de Sansón. El niño creció, y el Señor lo bendijo. | 24 And the woman bore a son, and called his name Samson; and the boy grew, and the LORD blessed him. |
| 25 El espíritu del Señor comenzó a agitarlo en Majné Dan, entre Sorá y Estaol. | 25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshta-ol. |
