| 1 Ruego, pues, lo primero de todo, que se hagan súplicas, oraciones, peticiones, acciones de gracias, por toda la humanidad, | 1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, |
| 2 por los reyes y por todos los constituidos en autoridad, para que podamos llevar una vida tranquila y sosegada, con toda piedad y respeto. | 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. |
| 3 Esto es bueno y agradable a los ojos de Dios, nuestro Salvador, | 3 This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, |
| 4 que quiere que todos los hombres se salven y lleguen al conocimiento de la verdad. | 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
| 5 Pues Dios es uno, y único también el mediador entre Dios y los hombres: el hombre Cristo Jesús, | 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, |
| 6 que se entregó en rescate por todos; este es un testimonio dado a su debido tiempo | 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony to which was borne at the proper time. |
| 7 y para el que fui constituido heraldo y apóstol —digo la verdad, no miento—, maestro de las naciones en la fe y en la verdad. | 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. |
| 8 Quiero, pues, que los hombres oren en todo lugar, alzando unas manos limpias, sin ira ni divisiones; | 8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling; |
| 9 de igual modo, las mujeres convenientemente vestidas, arregladas con decencia y modestia; no con peinados de trenzas y oro o perlas, ni con ropa costosa, | 9 also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire |
| 10 sino como conviene a mujeres que profesan la piedad mediante las buenas obras. | 10 but by good deeds, as befits women who profess religion. |
| 11 Que la mujer aprenda sosegadamente y con toda sumisión. | 11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. |
| 12 No consiento que la mujer enseñe ni que domine sobre el varón, sino que permanezca sosegada. | 12 I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent. |
| 13 Pues primero fue formado Adán; después, Eva. | 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; |
| 14 Además, Adán no fue engañado; en cambio, la mujer, habiendo sido engañada, incurrió en transgresión, | 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. |
| 15 aunque se salvará por la maternidad, si permanece en la fe, el amor y la santidad, junto con la modestia. | 15 Yet woman will be saved through bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. |
