| 2 y vieron que algunos discípulos comían con manos impuras, es decir, sin lavarse las manos. | 2 they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands defiled, that is, unwashed. |
| 3 (Pues los fariseos, como los demás judíos, no comen sin lavarse antes las manos, restregando bien, aferrándose a la tradición de sus mayores, | 3 (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they wash their hands, observing the tradition of the elders; |
| 4 y al volver de la plaza no comen sin lavarse antes, y se aferran a otras muchas tradiciones, de lavar vasos, jarras y ollas). | 4 and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they purify themselves; and there are many other traditions which they observe, the washing of cups and pots and vessels of bronze. ) |
| 5 Y los fariseos y los escribas le preguntaron: «¿Por qué no caminan tus discípulos según las tradiciones de los mayores y comen el pan con manos impuras?». | 5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with hands defiled?" |
| 6 Él les contestó: «Bien profetizó Isaías de vosotros, hipócritas, como está escrito: “Este pueblo me honra con los labios, pero su corazón está lejos de mí. | 6 And he said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; |
| 7 El culto que me dan está vacío, porque la doctrina que enseñan son preceptos humanos”. | 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.' |
| 8 Dejáis a un lado el mandamiento de Dios para aferraros a la tradición de los hombres». | 8 You leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men." |
| 9 Y añadió: «Anuláis el mandamiento de Dios por mantener vuestra tradición. | 9 And he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God, in order to keep your tradition! |
| 10 Moisés dijo: “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre” y “el que maldiga a su padre o a su madre es reo de muerte”. | 10 For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die'; |
| 11 Pero vosotros decís: “Si uno le dice al padre o a la madre: los bienes con que podría ayudarte son corbán, es decir, ofrenda sagrada”, | 11 but you say, 'If a man tells his father or his mother, What you would have gained from me is Corban' (that is, given to God) -- |
| 12 ya no le permitís hacer nada por su padre o por su madre; | 12 then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, |
| 13 invalidando la palabra de Dios con esa tradición que os transmitís; y hacéis otras muchas cosas semejantes». | 13 thus making void the word of God through your tradition which you hand on. And many such things you do." |
| 14 Llamó Jesús de nuevo a la gente y les dijo: «Escuchad y entended todos: | 14 And he called the people to him again, and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand: |
| 15 nada que entre de fuera puede hacer al hombre impuro; lo que sale de dentro es lo que hace impuro al hombre». | 15 there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him." |

| 17 Cuando dejó a la gente y entró en casa, le pidieron sus discípulos que les explicara la parábola. | 17 And when he had entered the house, and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. |
| 18 Él les dijo: «¿También vosotros seguís sin entender? ¿No comprendéis? Nada que entre de fuera puede hacer impuro al hombre, | 18 And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a man from outside cannot defile him, |
| 19 porque no entra en el corazón sino en el vientre y se echa en la letrina». (Con esto declaraba puros todos los alimentos). | 19 since it enters, not his heart but his stomach, and so passes on?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) |
| 20 Y siguió: «Lo que sale de dentro del hombre, eso sí hace impuro al hombre. | 20 And he said, "What comes out of a man is what defiles a man. |
| 21 Porque de dentro, del corazón del hombre, salen los pensamientos perversos, las fornicaciones, robos, homicidios, | 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, |
| 22 adulterios, codicias, malicias, fraudes, desenfreno, envidia, difamación, orgullo, frivolidad. | 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. |
| 23 Todas esas maldades salen de dentro y hacen al hombre impuro». | 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a man." |
| 24 Desde allí fue a la región de Tiro. Entró en una casa procurando pasar desapercibido, pero no logró ocultarse. | 24 And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house, and would not have any one know it; yet he could not be hid. |
| 25 Una mujer que tenía una hija poseída por un espíritu impuro se enteró enseguida, fue a buscarlo y se le echó a los pies. | 25 But immediately a woman, whose little daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell down at his feet. |
| 26 La mujer era pagana, una fenicia de Siria, y le rogaba que echase el demonio de su hija. | 26 Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. |
| 27 Él le dijo: «Deja que se sacien primero los hijos. No está bien tomar el pan de los hijos y echárselo a los perritos». | 27 And he said to her, "Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." |
| 28 Pero ella replicó: «Señor, pero también los perros, debajo de la mesa, comen las migajas que tiran los niños». | 28 But she answered him, "Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." |
| 29 Él le contestó: «Anda, vete, que por eso que has dicho, el demonio ha salido de tu hija». | 29 And he said to her, "For this saying you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter." |
| 30 Al llegar a su casa, se encontró a la niña echada en la cama; el demonio se había marchado. | 30 And she went home, and found the child lying in bed, and the demon gone. |
| 31 Dejando Jesús el territorio de Tiro, pasó por Sidón, camino del mar de Galilea, atravesando la Decápolis. | 31 Then he returned from the region of Tyre, and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of the Decapolis. |
| 32 Y le presentaron un sordo, que, además, apenas podía hablar; y le piden que le imponga la mano. | 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him. |
| 33 Él, apartándolo de la gente, a solas, le metió los dedos en los oídos y con la saliva le tocó la lengua. | 33 And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue; |
| 34 Y mirando al cielo, suspiró y le dijo: Effetá (esto es, «ábrete»). | 34 and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, "Ephphatha," that is, "Be opened." |
| 35 Y al momento se le abrieron los oídos, se le soltó la traba de la lengua y hablaba correctamente. | 35 And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. |
| 36 Él les mandó que no lo dijeran a nadie; pero, cuanto más se lo mandaba, con más insistencia lo proclamaban ellos. | 36 And he charged them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. |
| 37 Y en el colmo del asombro decían: «Todo lo ha hecho bien: hace oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos». | 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well; he even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak." |
