Josué 24

1 Josué reunió a todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem, llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a sus jefes, jueces y escribas que se situaron en presencia de Dios.	1 And Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel at Shechem, and he called those greater by birth, and the leaders and judges and teachers. And they stood in the sight of the Lord.
2 Josué dijo a todo el pueblo: «Esto dice Yahveh el Dios de Israel: Al otro lado del Río habitaban antaño vuestros padres, Téraj, padre de Abraham y de Najor, y servían a otros dioses.	2 And he spoke to the people in this way: “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: ‘Your fathers lived, in the beginning, across the river: Terah, the father of Abraham, and Nahor. And they served strange gods.
3 Yo tomé a vuestro padre Abraham del otro lado del Río y le hice recorrer toda la tierra de Canaán, multipliqué su descendencia y le di por hijo a Isaac.	3 Then I brought your father Abraham from the parts of Mesopotamia, and I led him into the land of Canaan. And I multiplied his offspring,
4 A Isaac le di por hijos a Jacob y Esaú. A Esaú le di en propiedad la montaña de Seír. Jacob y sus hijos bajaron a Egipto.	4 and I gave to him Isaac. And to him, I gave again Jacob and Esau. And I gave mount Seir to Esau as a possession. Yet truly, Jacob and his sons descended into Egypt.
5 Envié después a Moisés y Aarón y herí a Egipto con los prodigios que obré en medio de él. Luego os saqué de allí.	5 And I sent Moses and Aaron, and I struck Egypt with many signs and portents.
6 Saqué a vuestros padres de Egipto y llegasteis al mar; los egipcios persiguieron a vuestros padres con los carros y sus guerreros hasta el mar de Suf.	6 And I led you and your fathers away from Egypt, and you arrived at the sea. And the Egyptians pursued your fathers with chariots and horsemen, as far as the Red Sea.
7 Clamaron entonces a Yahveh, el cual tendió unas densas nieblas entre vosotros y los egipcios, e hizo volver sobre ellos el mar, que los cubrió. Visteis con vuestros propios ojos lo que hice con Egipto; luego habitasteis largo tiempo en el desierto.	7 Then the sons of Israel cried out to the Lord. And he stationed a darkness between you and the Egyptians, and he led the sea over them, and he covered them. Your eyes saw all that I did in Egypt, and you lived in the wilderness for a long time.
8 Os introduje después en la tierra de los amorreos, que habitaban al otro lado del Jordán; ellos os declararon la guerra y yo los entregué en vuestras manos; y así pudisteis poseer su tierra, porque yo los exterminé delante de vosotros.	8 And I led you into the land of the Amorite, who was living beyond the Jordan. And when they fought against you, I delivered them into your hands, and you possessed their land, and you put them to death.
9 Después se levantó Balaq, hijo de Sippor, rey de Moab, para pelear contra Israel, y mandó llamar a Balaam, hijo de Beor, para que os maldijera.	9 Then Balak, the son of Zippor, the king of Moab, rose up and fought against Israel. And he sent and called for Balaam, the son of Beor, so that he might curse you.
10 Pero no quise escuchar a Balaam, y hasta tuvo que bendeciros; así os salvé yo de su mano.	10 And I was not willing to listen to him, but on the contrary, I blessed you through him, and I freed you from his hand.
11 «Pasasteis el Jordán y llegasteis a Jericó; pero las gentes de Jericó os hicieron la guerra, igual que los amorreos, los perizitas, los cananeos, los hititas, los guirgasitas, los jivitas y los jebuseos, pero yo los entregué en vuestras manos.	11 And you crossed over the Jordan, and you arrived at Jericho. And the men of that city fought against you: the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. And I delivered them into your hands.
12 Mandé delante de vosotros avispas que expulsaron, antes que llegarais, a los dos reyes de los amorreos; no fue con tu espada ni con tu arco.	12 And I sent wasps before you. And I drove them from their places, the two kings of the Amorites, but not by your sword, and not by your bow.
13 Os he dado una tierra que no os ha costado fatiga, unas ciudades que no habéis construido y en las que sin embargo habitáis, viñas y olivares que no habéis plantado y de las que os alimentáis.	13 And I gave you a land, in which you did not labor, and cities, which you did not build, so that you might live in them, and vineyards and olive groves, which you did not plant.’
14 «Ahora, pues, temed a Yahveh y servidle perfectamente, con fidelidad; apartaos de los dioses a los que sirvieron vuestros padres más allá del Río y en Egipto y servid a Yahveh.	14 Now therefore, fear the Lord, and serve him with a perfect and very sincere heart. And take away the gods that your fathers served in Mesopotamia and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
15 Pero, si no os parece bien servir a Yahveh, elegid hoy a quién habéis de servir, o a los dioses a quienes servían vuestros padres más allá del Río, o a los dioses de los amorreos en cuyo país habitáis ahora. Yo y mi familia serviremos a Yahveh».	15 But if it seems evil to you that you would serve the Lord, a choice is given to you. Choose today what pleases you, and whom you ought to serve above all else, either the gods that your fathers served in Mesopotamia, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
16 El pueblo respondió: «Lejos de nosotros abandonar a Yahveh para servir a otros dioses.	16 And the people responded, and they said: “Far be it from us that we would forsake the Lord, and serve foreign gods.
17 Porque Yahveh nuestro Dios es el que nos hizo subir, a nosotros y a nuestros padres, de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre, y el que delante de nuestros ojos obró tan grandes señales y nos guardó por todo el camino que recorrimos y en todos los pueblos por los que pasamos.	17 The Lord our God himself led us and our fathers away from the land of Egypt, from the house of servitude. And he accomplished immense signs in our sight, and he preserved us along the entire way by which we journeyed, and among all the people through whom we passed.
18 Además Yahveh expulsó delante de nosotros a todos esos pueblos y a los amorreos que habitaban en el país. También nosotros serviremos a Yahveh, porque él es nuestro Dios».	18 And he cast out all the nations, the Amorite, the inhabitant of the land that we entered. And so, we will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”
19 Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: «No podréis servir a Yahveh, porque es un Dios santo, es un Dios celoso, que no perdonará ni vuestras rebeldías ni vuestros pecados.	19 And Joshua said to the people: “You will not be able to serve the Lord. For he is a holy and powerful God, and he is jealous, and he will not ignore your wickedness and sins.
20 Si abandonáis a Yahveh para servir a los dioses del extranjero, él a su vez traerá el mal sobre vosotros y acabará con vosotros, después de haberos hecho tanto bien».	20 If you leave behind the Lord, and you serve foreign gods, he will turn himself, and he will afflict you, and he will overthrow you, after all the good that he has offered to you.”
21 El pueblo respondió a Josué: «No; nosotros serviremos a Yahveh».	21 And the people said to Joshua, “By no means will it be as you are saying, but we will serve the Lord.”
22 Josué dijo al pueblo: «Vosotros sois testigos contra vosotros mismos de que habéis elegido a Yahveh para servirle». Respondieron ellos: «¡Testigos somos!» -	22 And Joshua said to the people, “You yourselves are witnesses, that you have chosen the Lord so that you may serve him.” And they answered, “We are witnesses.”
23 «Entonces, apartad los dioses del extranjero que hay en medio de vosotros e inclinad vuestro corazón hacia Yahveh, Dios de Israel».	23 “Now therefore,” he said, “take away strange gods from among yourselves, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
24 El pueblo respondió a Josué: «A Yahveh nuestro Dios serviremos y a sus voz atenderemos».	24 And the people said to Joshua, “We will serve the Lord our God, and we will be obedient to his precepts.”
25 Aquél día, Josué pactó una alianza para el pueblo; le impuso decretos y normas en Siquem.	25 Therefore, on that day, Joshua struck a covenant, and he set before the people at Shechem the precepts and the judgments.
26 Josué escribió estas palabras en el libro de la Ley de Dios. Tomó luego una gran piedra y la plantó allí, al pie de la encina que hay en el santuario de Yahveh.	26 He also wrote all these things in the volume of the law of the Lord. And he took a very great stone, and he stationed it under the oak that was in the Sanctuary of the Lord.
27 Josué dijo al todo el pueblo: «Mirad, esta piedra será testigo contra nosotros, pues ha oído todas las palabras que Yahveh ha hablado con nosotros; ella será testigo contra vosotros para que no reneguéis de vuestro Dios».	27 And he said to all the people, “Lo, this stone shall be to you as a testimony, which has heard all the words of the Lord that he has spoken to you, lest perhaps, afterward, you might choose to deny it, and to lie to the Lord your God.”
28 Y Josué despidió al pueblo cada uno a su heredad.	28 And he dismissed the people, each one to their own possession.
29 Después de estos acontecimientos, murió Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo de Yahveh, a la edad de 110 años.	29 And after these things, Joshua, the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being one hundred and ten years old.
30 Fue enterrado en el término de su heredad, en Timnat Séraj, que está en la montaña de Efraím, al norte del monte Gaás.	30 And they buried him within the borders of his possession at Timnath-Serah, which is situated on mount Ephraim, before the northern side of mount Gaash.
31 Israel sirvió a Yahveh todos los días de Josué y todos los días de los ancianos que siguieron viviendo después de Josué y que sabían todas las hazañas que Yahveh había hecho en favor de Israel.	31 And Israel served the Lord during all the days of Joshua, and of the elders who lived for a long time after Joshua, and who had known all the works of the Lord that he had accomplished in Israel.
32 Los huesos de José, que los hijos de Israel habían subido de Egipto, fueron sepultados en Siquem, en la parcela de campo que había comprado Jacob a los hijos de Jamor, padre de Siquem, por cien pesos, y que pasó a ser heredad de los hijos de José.	32 And the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel had brought from Egypt, they buried at Shechem, in a portion of the field that Jacob had purchased from the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for one hundred young female sheep, and so it was in the possession of the sons of Joseph.
33 También Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, murió y lo enterraron en Guibeá, ciudad de su hijo Pinjás, que le había sido dada en la montaña de Efraím.	33 Likewise, Eleazar, the son of Aaron, died. And they buried him at Gibeah, which belongs to Phinehas, his son, and which was given to him on mount Ephraim.
