BIBLIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Por eso el Señor Dios nuesro ha cumplido la palabra que había pronunciado contra nosotros, contra nuestros jueces que juzgaron a Israel, contra nuestros reyes y nuestros príncipes, contra los habitantes de Israel y de Judá.	1 And now, O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, the soul in anguish, and the troubled spirit crieth to thee:
2 Jamás se hizo debajo del cielo entero nada semejante a lo que hizo él en Jerusalén, conforme está escrito en la Ley de Moisés,	2 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy, for thou art a merciful God, and have pity on us: for we have sinned before thee.
3 hasta el punto de que llegamos a comer uno la carne de su propio hijo, otro la carne de su propia hija.	3 For thou remainest for ever, and shall we perish everlastingly?
4 Y los entregó el Señor en poder de todos los reinos de nuestro alrededor para que fuesen objeto de oprobio y maldición entre todos los pueblos circundantes donde el Señor los dispersó.	4 O Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, hear now the prayer of the dead of Israel, and of their children, that have sinned before thee, and have not hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God, wherefore evils have cleaved fast to us.
5 Hemos pasado a estar debajo y no encima, por haber pecado contra el Señor Dios nuestro desoyendo su voz.	5 Remember not the iniquities of our fathers, but think upon thy hand, and upon thy name at this time:
6 Al Señor Dios nuestro la justicia; a nosotros y a nuestros padres la confusión del rostro, como sucede en este día.	6 For thou art the Lord our God, and we will praise thee, O Lord:
7 Lo que el Señor había dicho contra nosotros, todos esos males nos han sobrevenido.	7 Because for this end thou hast put thy fear in our hearts, to the intent that we should call upon thy name, and praise thee in our captivity, for we are converted from the iniquity of our fathers, who sinned before thee.
8 Pero nosotros no hemos suplicado al rostro del Señor volviéndonos cada uno de los pensamientos de su perverso corazón.	8 And behold we are at this day in our captivity, whereby thou hast scattered us to be a reproach, and a curse, and an offence, according to all the iniquities of our fathers, who departed from thee, O Lord our God.
9 Por eso el Señor ha estado atento a los males y los ha descargado el Señor sobre nosotros; porque es justo el Señor en todas las obras que nos ordenó;	9 Hear, O Israel, the commandments of life: give ear, that thou mayst learn wisdom.
10 y nosotros no hemos escuchado su voz siguiendo las órdenes que el Señor nos había puesto delante.	10 How happeneth it, O Israel, that thou art in thy enemies' land?
11 Y ahora, oh Señor, Dios de Israel, que sacaste a tu pueblo del país de Egipto con mano fuerte, entre señales y prodigios, con gran poder y tenso brazo, haciéndote así un nombre como se ve en este día,	11 Thou art grown old in a strange country, thou art defiled with the dead: thou art counted with them that go down into hell.
12 nosotros hemos pecado, hemos sido impíos, hemos cometido injusticia, Señor Dios nuestro, contra todos tus decretos.	12 Thou hast forsaken the fountain of wisdom :
13 Que tu furor se retire de nosotros, porque hemos quedado bien pocos entre las naciones en medio de las cuales tú nos dispersaste.	13 For if thou hadst walked in the way of God, thou hadst surely dwelt in peace for ever.
14 Escucha, Señor, nuestra oración y nuestra súplica, líbranos por ti mismo, y haz que hallemos gracia a los ojos de los que nos deportaron,	14 Learn where is wisdom, where is strength, where is understanding: that thou mayst know also where is length of days and life, where is the light of the eyes, and peace.
15 para que sepa toda la tierra que tú eres el Señor Dios nuestro y que tu Nombre se invoca sobre Israel y sobre su raza.	15 Who hath found out her place? and who hath gone in to her treasures?
16 Mira, Señor, desde tu santa Casa y piensa en nosotros; inclina, Señor, tu oído y escucha;	16 Where are the princes of the nations, and they that rule over the beasts that are upon the earth?
17 abre, Señor, tus ojos y mira que no son los muertos en el seol, aquellos cuyo espíritu fue arrancado de sus entrañas, los que dan gloria y justicia al Señor,	17 That take their diversion with the birds of the air.
18 sino el alma comada de aflición, el que camina encorvado y extenuado, los ojos lánguidos y el alma hambrienta, esos son los que te dan gloria y justicia, Señor.	18 That hoard up silver and gold, wherein men trust, and there is no end of their getting? who work in silver and are solicitous, and their works are unsearchable.
19 No apoyados en las obras justas de nuestros padres y de nuestros reyes derramamos nuestra súplica de piedad ante tu rostro, oh Señor Dios nuestro.	19 They are cut off, and are gone down to hell, and others are risen up in their place.
20 Porque has descargado sobre nosotros tu furor y tu ira, como habías hablado por medio de tus siervos los profetas diciendo diciendo:	20 Young men have seen the light, and dwelt upon the earth: but the way of knowledge they have not known,
21 «Así dice el Señor: Doblegad vuestra espalda, servid al rey de Babilonia, y os asentaréis en la tierra que yo di a vuestros padres.	21 Nor have they understood the paths thereof, neither have their children received it, it is far from their face.
22 Pero si no escucháis la invitación del Señor a servir al rey de Babilonia,	22 It hath not been heard of in the land of Chanaan, neither hath it been seen in Theman.
23 yo haré cesar en las ciudades de Judá y en Jerusalén el canto de alegría y el canto de alborozo, el canto del novio y el canto de la novia, y todo el país quedará hecho un desierto, sin habitantes».	23 The children of Agar also, that search after the wisdom that is of the earth, the merchants of Merrha, and of Theman, and the tellers of fables, and searchers of prudence and understanding: but the way of wisdom they have not known, neither have they remembered her paths.
24 Pero nosotros no escuchamos tu invitación de servir al rey de Babilonia, y tú entonces ha cumplido tus palabras, pronunciadas por medio de tus siervos los profetas: que los huesos de nuestros reyes y los huesos de nuestros padres serían sacados de sus sepulcros.	24 O Israel, how great is the house of God, and how vast is the place of his possession!
25 Y he aquí que efectivamente yacen tirados por el suelo al calor del día y al frío de la noche; y ellos murieron en medio en medio de atroces sufrimientos,de hambre, de espada y de peste;	25 It is great, and hath no end: it is high and immense.
26 y la Casa sobre la que se invoca tu Nombre la has reducido al estado en que se encuentra en este día, a causa de la maldad de la casa de Israel y de la casa de Judá.	26 There were the giants, those renowned men that were from the beginning, of great stature, expert in war.
27 Sin embargo has obrado con nosotros, Señor Dios nuestro, según toda tu indulgencia y tu gran misericordia,	27 The Lord chose not them, neither did they find the way of knowledge: therefore did they perish.
28 como habías hablado por medio de tu siervo Moisés, el día en que le ordenaste escribir tu Ley en presencia de los hijos de Israel, diciendo:	28 And because they had not wisdom, they perished through their folly.
29 «Si no escucháis mi voz, esta misma grande, inmensa muchedumbre quedará reducida a un pequeño número en medio de las naciones donde yo los dispersaré.	29 Who hath gone up into heaven, and taken her, and brought her down from the clouds?
30 Pues bien sé que no me escucharán, porque es un pueblo de dura cerviz; pero se convertirán en sus corazones en el país de su destierro;	30 Who hath passed over the sea, and found her, and brought her preferably to chosen gold?
31 y reconocerán entonces que yo soy el Señor su Dios. Yo les daré un corazón y unos oídos que oigan.	31 There is none that is able to know her ways, nor that can search out her paths :
32 Y ellos me alabarán en el país de su destierro, se acordarán de mi nombre,	32 But he that knoweth all things, knoweth her, and hath found her out with his understanding: he that prepared the earth for evermore, and filled it with cattle and fourfooted beasts:
33 desistirán de su dura cerviz y de su perversa conducta acordándose de lo que les sucedió a sus padres que pecaron delante del Señor.	33 He that sendeth forth light, and it goeth: and hath called it, and it obeyeth him with trembling.
34 Yo les volveré a la tierra que bajo juramento prometí a sus padres, a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob, y tomarán posesión de ella. Los multiplicaré y ya no menguarán.	34 And the stars have given light in their watches, and rejoiced:
35 Y estableceré con ellos una alianza eterna de ser yo su Dios y ser ellos mi pueblo, y no volveré a arrojar ya a mi pueblo Israel de la tierra que les di».	35 They were called, and they said: Here we are: and with cheerfuIness they have shined forth to him that made them.
	36 This is our God, and there shall no other be accounted of in comparison of him.
	37 He found out all the way of knowledge, and gave it to Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved.
	38 Afterwards he was seen upon earth, and conversed with men.
