1 Este es el texto del libro que Baruc, hijo de Neriyías, hijo de Maaseías, hijo de Sedecías, hijo de Asadías, hijo de Jilquías, escribió en Babilonia,	1 Now these are the words of the scroll which Baruch, son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, son of Zedekiah, son of Hasadiah, son of Hilkiah, wrote in Babylon,
2 el año quinto, el día siete del mes, en el tiempo en que los caldeos habían tomado e incendiado Jerusalén.	2 in the fifth year (on the seventh day of the month, at the time when the Chaldeans took Jerusalem and burnt it with fire).
3 Baru leyó el texto de este libro a oídos de Jeconías, hijo de Yoyaquim, rey de Judá, y a oídos de todo el pueblo venido para escuchar el libro;	3 And Baruch read the words of this scroll for Jeconiah, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, to hear it, as well as all the people who came to the reading:
4 a oídos de las autoridades y de los hijos del rey, a oídos de los ancianos, a oídos del pueblo entero desde el menor al mayor, de todos los que habitaban en Babilonia, a orillas del río Sud.	4 the nobles, the kings' sons, the elders, and the whole people, small and great alike--all who lived in Babylon by the river Sud.
5 Todos lloraron, ayunaron y oraron delante del Señor.	5 They wept and fasted and prayed before the LORD,
6 Luego reunieron dinero, según las posibilidades de cada uno,	6 and collected such funds as each could furnish.
7 y lo enviaron a Jerusalén, al sacerdote Joaquín, hijo de Jilquías, hijo de Salom, a los demás sacerdotes y a todo el pueblo que se encontraba con él en Jerusalén.	7 These they sent to Jerusalem, to Jehoiakim, son of Hilkiah, son of Shallum, the priest, and to the priests and the whole people who were with him in Jerusalem.
8 Y a Baruc, el día diez del mes de Siván, había tomado los objetos sagrados de la Casa del Señor que habían sido llevados del Templo, con ánimo de volverlos a llevar a la tierra de Judá; objetos de plata mandados hacer por Sedecías, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá,	8 (This was when he received the vessels of the house of the Lord that had been removed from the temple, to restore them to the land of Judah, on the tenth of Sivan. These silver vessels Zedekiah, son of Josiah, king of Judah, had had made
9 después que Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, deportó de Jerusalén a Jeconías, a los príncipes, a los cerrajeros, a las autoridades y al pueblo de la tierra, llevándolos a Babilonia.	9 after Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, carried off Jeconiah, and the princes, and the skilled workers, and the nobles, and the people of the land from Jerusalem, as captives, and brought them to Babylon.)
10 Se les decía: Ahí os enviamos dinero; comprad con él holocaustos, sacrificios por el pecado e incienso; haced oblaciones y ofrendas sobre el altar del Señor Dios nuestro.	10 Their message was: "We send you funds, with which you are to procure holocausts, sin offerings, and frankincense, and to prepare cereal offerings; offer these on the altar of the LORD our God,
11 Rogad por la vida de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y por la vida de su hijo Baltasar, para que sean sus días como los días del cielo sobre la tierra.	11 and pray for the life of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and that of Belshazzar, his son, that their lifetimes may equal the duration of the heavens above the earth;
12 El Señor nos dará fuerzas e iluminará nuestros ojos para vivir a la sombra de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y a la sombra de su hijo Baltasar; les serviremos largos días y hallaremos gracia a sus ojos.	12 and that the LORD may give us strength, and light to our eyes, that we may live under the protective shadow of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and that of Belshazzar, his son, and serve them long, finding favor in their sight.
13 Rogad también por nosotros al Señor Dios nuestro, porque hemos pecado contra el Señor Dios nuestro, y todavía hoy no se ha retirado de nosotros el furor y la ira del Señor.	13 "Pray for us also to the LORD, our God; for we have sinned against the LORD, our God, and the wrath and anger of the LORD have not yet been withdrawn from us at the present day.
14 Y leed este libro que os mandamos para que hagáis lectura pública en la Casa del Señor, el día de la fiesta y en días oportunos.	14 And read out publicly this scroll which we send you, in the house of the LORD, on the feast day and during the days of assembly:
15 Diréis: Al Señor Dios nuestro la justicia, a nosotros, en cambio, la confusión del rostro, como sucede en este día; a los hombres de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén,	15 "Justice is with the LORD, our God; and we today are flushed with shame, we men of Judah and citizens of Jerusalem,
16 a nuestros reyes, a nuestros príncipes, a nuestros sacerdotes, a nuestros profetas y a nuestros padres.	16 that we, with our kings and rulers and priests and prophets, and with our fathers,
17 Porque hemos pecado ante el Señor,	17 have sinned in the LORD'S sight
18 le hemos desobedecido y no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor Dios nuestro siguiendo las órdenes que el Señor nos había puesto delante.	18 and disobeyed him. We have neither heeded the voice of the LORD, our God, nor followed the precepts which the LORD set before us.
19 Desde el día en que el Señor sacó a nuestros padres del país de Egipto hasta el día de hoy hemos sido indóciles al Señor Dios nuestro y prestos en desoír su voz.	19 From the time the LORD led our fathers out of the land of Egypt until the present day, we have been disobedient to the LORD, our God, and only too ready to disregard his voice.
20 Por esto se nos han pegado los males y la maldición con que el Señor conminó a su siervo Moisés el día que sacó a nuestros padres del país de Egipto para darnos una tierra que mana leche y miel, como sucede en este día.	20 And the evils and the curse which the LORD enjoined upon Moses, his servant, at the time he led our fathers forth from the land of Egypt to give us the land flowing with milk and honey, cling to us even today.
21 Nosotros no hemos escuchado la voz del Señor Dios nuestro de acuerdo con todas las palabras de los profetas que nos ha enviado,	21 For we did not heed the voice of the LORD, our God, in all the words of the prophets whom he sent us,
22 sino que hemos sido, cada uno de nosotros según el capricho de su perverso corazón, a servir a dioses extraños, a hacer lo malo a los ojos del Señor Dios nuestro.	22 but each one of us went off after the devices of our own wicked hearts, served other gods, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, our God.
