Jeremías 48

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sobre Moab. Así dice Yahveh Sebaot, el Dios de Israel: ¡Ay de Nebo, porque ha sido saqueada! Está confusa, ha sido tomada Quiryatáyim. Está confusa la acrópolis y anonadada.	1 On Moab. Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Wretched Nebo, for it has been ravaged, Kiriathaim hasbeen shamed and taken, shame and distraction on the citadel,
2 Ya no existe la prez de Moab. En Jesbón han planeado su ruina: «Vamos y borrémosla de entre las naciones». También a ti, Madmén, se te hará callar. La espada te va a la zaga.	2 the pride of Moab is no more! At Heshbon they plotted her downfal , 'Come, let us put an end to her asa nation!' And you too, inhabitants of Madmen, wil be silenced, the sword wil be after you.
3 Gritos desde Joronáyim, devastación y quebranto grande.	3 A cry of agony goes up from Horonaim, 'Devastation! Dire calamity.
4 Quebrantada fue Moab. Hácense oír los gritos de sus pequeños.	4 Moab has been shattered,' the agonised cries of her little ones ring out.
5 La cuesta de Lujit, llorando se la suben, y a la bajada de Joronáyim gritos desgarrados se oyen.	5 Up the slope of Luhith, weeping they go. On the road down to Horonaim is heard the shriek of disaster,
6 «Huid, poneos en salvo, haced como el onagro en el desierto».	6 'Away! Flee for your lives like the wild donkey into the desert!'
7 En réplica a tu confianza en tus obras y tus tesoros, también tú eres tomada, y sale Kemós desterrado, sus sacerdotes y jefes a una,	7 Yes, since you relied on your deeds and your wealth, you wil be captured too. Chemosh wil go intoexile, with al his priests and princes.
8 Viene el devastador a todas las ciudades, y ni una ciudad se salva. Y se pierde el valle, y es asolada la meseta: tal ha dicho Yahveh.	8 The despoiler wil descend on every town, not one will escape; the Valley wil be ravaged, the Plain beplundered as Yahweh has said.
9 Dad alas, a Moab, porque ha de salir volando, y sus ciudades se volverán desolación sin nadie que las habite.	9 Give Moab wings so that she can fly away, for her towns wil be laid in ruins where no one wil ever liveagain.
10 (Maldito quien haga el trabajo de Yahveh con dejadez, y maldito el que prive a sus espada de sangre).	10 (Accursed be he who does Yahweh's work negligently! Accursed be he who deprives his sword ofblood!)
11 Tranquilo estaba Moab desde su mocedad, y quieto se estaba en sus atalayas. Nunca fue trasegado, ni al destierro marchó. Por eso le duraba su gusto, y su sabor no se picó.	11 From his youth Moab lived at ease, he settled on his lees, never having been decanted, never havinggone into exile: and so he kept his own flavour, his aroma was unchanged.
12 Empero, he aquí que días vienen, - oráculo de Yahveh - en que yo le he de enviar decantadores que lo decanten. Sus vasijas vaciarán, y sus odres reventarán.	12 And so the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shal send him decanters to decant him; theywil empty his pitchers and break his wine jars to bits.
13 Se avergonzará Moab de Kemós, como se avergonzó la casa de Israel de Betel, en el que confiaba.	13 Moab wil be shamed by Chemosh then, as the House of Israel was shamed by Bethel in which theyput their trust.
14 ¿Cómo decís: «Valientes somos, y hombres fuertes para la guerra»?	14 How can you say, 'We are heroes, sturdy fighting men'?
15 Moab está devastado; han escalado sus ciudades, y la flor de sus mancebos bajaron a la matanza - oráculo del Rey cuyo nombre es Yahveh Sebaot.	15 Moab has been ravaged, his cities scaled, the flower of his youth goes down to the slaughter,declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.
16 El infortunio de Moab es inminente, y su calamidad se precipita.	16 Moab's ruin is coming soon, his downfal comes at top speed.
17 Lloradle, todos sus vecinos y todos los que conocen su nombradía. Decid: «¿Cómo ha sido quebrantada la vara poderosa, el báculo precioso?»	17 Grieve for him, all you living near him, all you who knew his name. Say, 'How shattered it is, thatmighty rod, that splendid sceptre!'
18 Desciende del honor y siéntate en la tierra seca, población hija de Dibón, porque el devastador de Moab ha subido contra ti, ha destruido tus fortalezas.	18 Come down from your glory, sit on the parched ground, daughter of Dibon, for the despoiler of Moabhas advanced on you, he has destroyed your strongholds.
19 En el camino párate y otea, población de Aroer; pregunta al fugitivo y al escapado; di: «¿Qué ha sucedido?»	19 Stand by the roadside, keep watch, daughter of Aroer. Question fugitive and runaway, ask, 'What hashappened?'
20 Confuso está Moab porque fue destruido. Ululad y clamad. Anunciad en el Arnón que ha sido saqueado Moab.	20 'Moab has been shattered and shamed. Wail and shriek! Shout along the Arnon, Moab has been laidwaste!'
21 Y la sentencia ha llegado a la meseta, a Jolón, a Yahsá y a Mefaat,	21 Judgement has also come on the Plain, on Holon, Jahzah, Mephaath,
22 a Dibón, a Nebo y a Bet Diblatáyim,	22 Dibon, Nebo, Beth-Diblathaim,
23 a Quiryatáyim, a Bet Gamul y a Bet Maón,	23 Kiriathaim, Beth-Gamul, Beth-Meon,
24 a Queriyyot, a Bosrá y a todas las ciudades de la tierra de Moab, las lejanas y las cercanas.	24 Kerioth, Bozrah, and al the towns of Moab, far and near.
25 «Se partió el cuerno de Moab y su brazo se rompió», - oráculo de Yahveh -.	25 Moab's horn has been cut off, his arm is broken, Yahweh declares.
26 Emborrachadle porque contra Yahveh se engrandeció. Moab se revolcará en su vómito, y quedará en ridículo él también.	26 Make him drunk! He has set himself up against Yahweh; let Moab wal ow in his vomit and become alaughing-stock in his turn.
27 Pues qué, ¿no te pareció a ti ridículo Israel? ¿o quizá entre ladrones fue sorprendido, que siempre que hablas de él meneas la cabeza?	27 Was Israel not a laughing-stock to you? Was he caught red-handed with the thieves, for you to shakeyour head whenever you mention him?
28 «Dejad las ciudades y acomodaos en la peña, habitantes de Moab, sed como la paloma cuando anida en las paredes de las simas..».	28 Leave the towns, make the rocks your home, inhabitants of Moab. Learn from the dove that makes itsnest in the wal s of the gaping gorge.
29 Hemos oído la arrogancia de Moab: ¡es muy arrogante!, su orgullo, su arrogancia, su altanería y la soberbia de su corazón.	29 We have heard about Moab's pride, so very proud! What arrogance! What pride! What conceit! Whata haughty heart!
30 Conozco - oráculo de Yahveh - su presunción, y que sus bravatas no son como sus hechos.	30 -I know al about his presumption, Yahweh declares, his empty boasting, those empty deeds of his!
31 Así que, por Moab ulularé y por Moab entero gritaré; por los hombres de Quir Jeres suspiraré:	31 -and so I lament for Moab, for al Moab I raise my cry and mourn for the people of Kir-Heres.
32 Más que se lloró a Yazer lloraré por ti, ¡oh viña de Sibmá! Tus sarmientos pasaban la mar, hasta Yazer alcanzaban. Sobre tu cosecha y sobre tu vendimia el saqueador se abatió,	32 More than for Jazer I weep for you, vineyard of Sibmah: your shoots stretched beyond the sea, they reached al the way to Jazer. On your harvest and vintage the despoiler has descended.
33 y fue quitada alegría y alborozo de Carmelo y del país de Moab, y el vino a los trujales he quitado, no se oye el grito alegre del pisador, ya no se oyen gritos.	33 Gladness and joy have vanished from the orchards of Moab. I have dried up the wine in the presses,the treader of grapes treads no more, the joyful shouting has ceased.
34 De tanto gritar en Jesbón, hasta Elalé, hasta Yahas llegaron las voces desde Soar hasta Joronáyim, - Eglat Selisiyyá -, porque también las aguas de Nimrim se han trocado en aridez.	34 The cries of Heshbon and Elealeh can be heard as far as Jahaz. The shrieks resound from Zoar toHoronaim and Eglath-Shelishiyah, for even the Waters of Nimrim have become a wasteland.
35 Quitaré a Moab - oráculo de Yahveh - de subirse al alto e incensar a sus dioses.	35 And in Moab I shal make an end, Yahweh declares, of anyone offering sacrifice on the high placesand anyone offering incense to his gods.
36 Por eso mi corazón por Moab como flauta resuena, porque cuanto habían guardado se perdió,	36 That is why my heart sobs like a flute for Moab, sobs like a flute for the people of Kir-Heres, since thewealth he had acquired is lost.
37 pues toda cabeza ha sido rapada y toda barba raída: en todas las manos arañazos y en todos los lomos saco,	37 Yes, every head is shaved, every beard cut off, gashes are on every hand, sackcloth round everywaist.
38 en todos los terrados de Moab y por sus calles todo el mundo se lamentaba, porque he quebrantado a Moab como vaso de desecho - oráculo de Yahveh -.	38 On al the housetops of Moab and in al its squares there is nothing but lamenting, for I have brokenMoab like an unwanted pot, Yahweh declares.
39 ¡Cómo has sido destruida! ululad. ¡Cómo ha vuelto la espalda Moab con vergüenza, y ha venido a ser Moab la burla y el espanto de todos sus vecinos!	39 How shattered he is! Wail! Moab so shameful y in retreat! Moab has become a laughing-stock, a thingof horror to al his neighbours.
40 Porque así ha dicho Yahveh: (Ved cómo cual un águila se remonta y extiende sus alas sobre Moab.)	40 For Yahweh says this: (Look, like an eagle, he wil hover, spreading his wings over Moab.)
41 Tomadas fueron las plazas, y las fortalezas ocupadas. (Vendrá a ser el corazón de los valientes de Moab en aquel día como corazón de mujer en parto.)	41 The towns have been captured, the strongholds seized. (And the heart of Moab's warriors, that day,wil be like that of a woman in labour pains.)
42 Devastado está Moab que ya no es pueblo, porque contra Yahveh se engrandeció.	42 Moab wil be destroyed, no longer a people, for setting itself up against Yahweh.
43 Pánico, hoya y trampa contra ti, morador de Moab, - oráculo de Yahveh.	43 Terror, the pit and the snare for you, inhabitant of Moab, Yahweh declares.
44 El que huya del pánico, caerá en la hoya y el que suba de la hoya será preso en la trampa, porque voy a hacer que se llegue a ella, a Moab, el año de su castigo - oráculo de Yahveh -.	44 And anyone who escapes from terror wil fal into the pit, and anyone who climbs out of the pit wil becaught in the snare. Yes, I shall bring all this on Moab when the year comes for punishing them, Yahwehdeclares.
45 A la sombra de Jesbón se pararon sin fuerza los fugitivos, cuando fuego salió de Jesbón y llama de la casa de Sijón, y devoró las sienes de Moab y el cráneo de los hijos del ruido.	45 In the shelter of Heshbon the fugitives have paused, exhausted. But fire wil burst from Heshbon, aflame from the palace of Sihon, consuming the brows of Moab, the head of a turbulent brood.
46 ¡Ay de ti Moab! Pereció el pueblo de Kemós, pues han sido tomados sus hijos en cautiverio y sus hijas en cautividad.	46 Disaster for you, Moab! The people of Chemosh are lost! For your sons have been taken into exileand your daughters into captivity.
47 Pero yo haré volverse a los cautivos de Moab en días futuros - oráculo de Yahveh -. Hasta aquí la sentencia de Moab.	47 But I shal bring back Moab's captives in the final days, Yahweh declares. Thus far the judgement onMoab.
