Ester 5

1 Al tercer día (*Ester 5:1-a) y una vez acabada su oración, se despojó de sus vestidos de orante y se revistió de reina. Recobrada su espléndida belleza, invocó a Dios, que vela sobre todos y los salva, y tomando a dos siervas, se apoyó blandamente en una de ellas, mientras la otra la seguía alzando el ruedo del vestido. (*Ester 5:1-b) Iba ella resplandeciente, en el apogeo de su belleza, con rostro alegre como de una enamorada, aunque su corazón estaba oprimido por la angustia. (*Ester 5:1-c) Franqueando todas las puertas, llegó hasta la presencia del rey; estaba el rey sentado en el trono real, revestido de las vestiduras de las ceremonias públicas, cubierto de oro y piedras preciosas y con aspecto verdaderamente impresionante. (*Ester 5:1-d) Alzando su rostro, resplandeciente de gloria, lanzó una mirada tan colmada de ira que la reina se desvaneció; perdió el color y apoyó la cabeza sobre la sierva que la precedía. (*Ester 5:1-e) Mudó entonces Dios el corazón del rey en dulzura, angustiado se precipitó del trono y la tomó en sus brazos y en tanto ella se recobraba, le dirigía dulces palabras, (*Ester 5:1-f) diciendo: «¿Qué ocurre, Ester? Yo soy tu hermano, ten confianza. No morirás, pues mi mandato alcanza sólo al común de las gentes. Acércate».	1 After this, king Artaxerxes exalted Haman, the son of Hammedatha, who was of Agag lineage, and he set his throne above all the rulers whom he had.
2 Y tomando el rey el cetro de oro, lo puso sobre el cuello de Ester, y la besó, diciendo: «Háblame». (*Ester 5:2-a) Ella respondió: «Te he visto, señor, como a un ángel de Dios y mi corazón se turbó ante el temor de tu gloria. Porque eres admirable, señor, y tu rostro está lleno de dignidad». (*Ester 5:2-b) Y en diciendo esto, se desmayó de nuevo. El rey se turbó,, y todos sus cortesanos se esforzaron por reanimarla.	2 And all the king’s servants, who passed by the doors of the palace, bent their knees and adored Haman, for so the ruler had instructed them. Only Mordecai did not bend his knee, nor adore him.
3 El rey le preguntó: «¿Qué sucede, reina Ester? ¿Qué deseas? Incluso la mitad del reino te será dada».	3 The king’s servants, who presided over the doors of the palace, said to him, “Why do you, more than the others, not observe the king’s command?”
4 Respondió Ester: «Si al rey le place, venga hoy el rey, con Amán, al banquete que le tengo preparado».	4 And when they were saying this frequently, and he would not listen to them, they reported it to Haman, desiring to know whether he would continue in his resolution, for he had told them that he was a Jew.
5 Respondió el rey: «Avisad inmediatamente a Amán para que se cumpla el deseo de Ester». El rey y Amán fueron al banquete preparado por Ester,	5 Now when Haman had heard this, and had proved by a test that Mordecai did not bend his knee to him, nor adore him, he was very angry.
6 y durante el banquete, dijo el rey a Ester: «¿Qué quieres pedir?, pues se te dará. ¿Qué deseas? Hasta la mitad del reino te será concedida».	6 And he considered it pointless to lay his hands on Mordecai alone, for he had heard that he was part of the Jewish people. And so he wanted more: to destroy the entire nation of the Jews, who were in the kingdom of Artaxerxes.
7 Ester respondió: «¿Mi petición y mi deseo?	7 In the first month, which is called Nisan, in the twelfth year of the reign of Artaxerxes, the lot was cast into an urn, which in Hebrew is called Pur, in the presence of Haman, to determine on what day and in which month the Jewish people should be destroyed. And it turned out to be the twelfth month, which is called Adar.
8 Si he hallado gracia a los ojos del rey, y si al rey le place escuchar mi petición y cumplir mi deseo, que vengan mañana el rey y Amán al banquete que he preparado para ellos. Y haré entonces lo que el rey me pide».	8 And Haman said to king Artaxerxes, “There is a people dispersed throughout all the provinces of your kingdom and separated one from another, who make use of unusual laws and ceremonies, and who, in addition, show contempt for the king’s ordinances. And you know very well that it is not expedient for your kingdom that they should become insolent through independence.
9 Salió aquel día Amán contento y con alegre corazón; pero al ver a Mardoqueo en la Puerta Real, que no se levantaba, ni siquiera se movía ante él, se llenó Amán de ira contra Mardoqueo,	9 If it pleases you, declare that they may be destroyed, and I will weigh out ten thousand talents to the keepers of your treasury.”
10 pero se dominó, y yéndose a su casa, mandó venir a sus amigos y a su mujer Zeres,	10 And so the king took the ring that he used, from his own hand, and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha, of Agag lineage, enemy of the Jews.
11 y les habló de su gloria y sus riquezas, de sus muchos hijos y de cómo el rey le había encumbrado, elevándole por encima de los jefes y servidores del rey.	11 And he said to him, “Let the silver, which you promise, be for yourself. As for the people, do with them as it pleases you.”
12 Y añadió: «Más aún; la reina Ester me ha invitado a mí sólo, junto con el rey, a un banquete que ha preparado; también para mañana estoy invitado por ella, junto con el rey.	12 And the scribes of the king were summoned, in the first month Nisan, on the thirteenth day of the same month. And it was written, as Haman had commanded, to all the king’s governors, and to the judges of the provinces, and to various peoples, so that each people could read and hear according to their various languages, in the name of king Artaxerxes. And the letters were sealed with his ring.
13 Pero todo esto nada significa para mí, mientras vea que el judío Mardoqueo, sigue sentado a la Puerta Real».	13 These were sent by the king’s messengers to all the provinces, so as to kill and destroy all the Jews, from children all the way to the elderly, even little children and women, on one day, that is, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month, which is called Adar, and to plunder their goods, even their necessities.
14 Su mujer Zeres y todos sus amigos le respondieron: «Manda preparar una horca de cincuenta codos de altura y mañana por la mañana pides al rey que cuelguen de ella a Mardoqueo; así podrás ir satisfecho al banquete con el rey». Agradó el consejo a Amán y mandó preparar la horca.
