1 Allora Giobbe, ripigliando la sua parabola, aggiunse:
2 « Viva Iddio il quale ha abbandonata la mia causa, l'Onnipotente che ha immersa l'anima mia nell'amarezza.	2 As God lives, who withholds my deserts, the Almighty, who has made bitter my soul,
3 Finchè avrò fiato, finché il soffio di Dio sarà nelle mie nari,	3 So long as I still have life in me and the breath of God is in my nostrils,
4 le mie labbra nulla diranno d'ingiusto, e la mia iingua non proferirà menzogna.	4 My lips shall not speak falsehood, nor my tongue utter deceit!
5 Lungi da me il pensiero di stimarvi giusti: fino all'ultimo respiro sosterrò la mia innocenza,	5 Far be it from me to account you right; till I die I will not renounce my innocence.
6 non rinunzierò alla mia giustificazione che ho incominciata; perchè il mio cuore non mi rimprovera nulla in tutta la mia vita.	6 My justice I maintain and I will not relinquish it; my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.
7 Il mio nemico sia come l'empio, il mio avversai io sia come l'iniquo.	7 Let my enemy be as the wicked and my adversary as the unjust!
8 E qual'è la speranza dell'ipocrita, se rapisce per avarizia e Dio non libera l'anima di lui?	8 For what can the impious man expect when he is cut off, when God requires his life?
9 Forse Dio darà ascolto al suo grido, quando piomberà sopra di lui la sventura?	9 Will God then attend to his cry when calamity comes upon him?
10 O potrà egli trovar diletto nell'Onnipotente e invocare Dio in ogni tempo?	10 Will he then delight in the Almighty and call upon him constantly?
11 V'insegnerò, coll'aiuto di Dio, quel che faccia l'Onnipotente, non lo nasconderò.	11 I will teach you the manner of God's dealings, and the way of the Almighty I will not conceal.
12 Ma voi tutti già lo sapete, e allora perchè vi perdete senza ragione in vani discorsi?	12 Behold, you yourselves have all seen it; why then do you spend yourselves in idle words!
13 Ecco ciò che tocca all'empio davanti a Dio, l'eredità che i violenti riceveranno dall'onnipotente.	13 This is the portion of a wicked man from God, the inheritance an oppressor receives from the Almighty:
14 Se i suoi figli si moltiplicano, saran per la spada, e i suoi nipoti non saran satollati di pane.	14 Though his children be many, the sword is their destiny. His offspring shall not be filled with bread.
15 Quelli che di lui resteranno saran sepolti nella rovina, e le sue vedove non piangeranno.	15 His survivors, when they die, shall have no burial, and their widows shall not be mourned.
16 Ammucchi pure come polvere l'argento, ammassi i vestimenti come fango;	16 Though he heap up silver like dust and store away mounds of clothing,
17 egli li preparerà, ma il giusto se li vestirà, e l'innocente distribuirà il suo argento.	17 What he has stored the just man shall wear, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
18 Come tignola fabbricò la sua casa come guardiano di vigne il suo capanno.	18 He builds his house as of cobwebs, or like a booth put up by the vine-keeper.
19 Il ricco quando s'addormenterà con sè non porterà via nulla; aprirà i suoi occhi e non troverà niente.	19 He lies down a rich man, one last time; he opens his eyes and nothing remains to him.
20 L'indigenza lo sorprenderà come inondazione, durante la notte l'opprimerà la tempesta.	20 Terrors rush upon him by day; at night the tempest carries him off.
21 Un vento infuocato lo travolgerà, lo porterà via e come turbine lo spazzerà dal suo luogo.	21 The storm wind seizes him and he disappears; it sweeps him out of his place.
22 Dio lo dardeggerà senza risparmiarlo, mentre egli si sforzerà di fuggirgli di mano.
23 Sopra di lui si batteran le mani, sopra di lui si fischierà, vedendo il luogo dov'era».
