Joshua 14

1 And these are the inheritances which the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel distributed to them.	1 - Ecco quali sono i possedimenti dei figli d'Israele nella terra di Canaan, assegnati loro dal sacerdote Eleazaro, da Giosuè figlio di Nun e dai capi di famiglia delle tribù d'Israele,
2 Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded Moses for the nine and one-half tribes.	2 i quali secondo la sorte come aveva prescritto il Signore per mezzo di Mosè divisero il tutto alle nove tribù e alla metà della tribù [di Manasse],
3 For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.	3 mentre a due tribù e mezza Mosè aveva dato i loro possessi al di là del Giordano, eccezion fatta per la tribù dei Leviti, i quali non ricevettero nulla tra i loro fratelli,
4 For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their cattle and their substance.	4 ma in luogo di essi sottentrarono i figli di Giuseppe divisi in due tribù, quella di Manasse e di Efraim. I leviti non ottennero alcuna porzione nel paese all'infuori delle città per abitarvi e dei loro sobborghi per pascervi il bestiame e gli armenti.
5 The people of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses; they allotted the land.	5 Come il Signore aveva comandato a Mosè, i figli d'Israele eseguirono e si divisero la terra.
6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me.	6 Accostatisi pertanto i figli di Giuda a Giosuè in Galgala, Caleb figlio di Iefone Cenezeo così gli disse: «Tu sei quel che il Signore disse di me e di te a Mosè uomo di Dio in Cadesbarne.
7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.	7 Io avevo quarant'anni quando Mosè servo del Signore mi mandò da Cadesbarne ad esplorare il paese; ed io gli riferii ciò che mi era sembrato conforme a verità, e
8 But my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the LORD my God.	8 mentre i miei fratelli ch'eran saliti con me, scoraggiavano il popolo, io invece seguii il Signore mio Dio.
9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children for ever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.'	9 In quel giorno Mosè promise con giuramento: - La terra, che il tuo piede ha calcato sarà in possesso tuo e dei figli tuoi per sempre, perchè tu hai seguito il mio Dio. -
10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness; and now, lo, I am this day eighty-five years old.	10 Il Signore adunque, come promise, mi conservò in vita fino a questi giorni. Sono ormai quarantacinque anni che il Signore disse questa parola a Mosè quando Israele andava vagando per il deserto ed oggi ho ottantacinque anni
11 I am still as strong to this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war, and for going and coming.	11 e sono in forze come lo era al tempo in cui venni mandato come esploratore. La forza di quel tempo perdura in me sino ad oggi sia nel combattere come nel camminare.
12 So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out as the LORD said."	12 Dammi adunque questo monte che il Signore, come anche tu hai inteso, mi ha promesso e sul quale stanno gli Enacim e vi son città grandi e fortificate. Forse il Signore sarà con me e li potrò sterminare come mi ha promesso».
13 Then Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.	13 Giosuè lo benedisse e gli diede il possedimento di Ebron.
14 So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel.	14 Così Ebron appartenne da quel giorno fino ad oggi a Caleb figlio di Iefone Cenezeo, perchè seguì il Signore Dio d'Israele.
15 Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba; this Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.	15 Ebron si chiamava prima Cariat-Arbe. Quivi si trova Adam, il più potente degli Enacim. E la terra riposò dalle guerre.
