Joshua 14

1 And these are the inheritances which the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel distributed to them.	1 Voici ce que les enfants d'Israël ont possédé dans la terre de Chanaan, que le grand prêtre Eléazar, Josué, fils de Nun, et les princes des familles de chaque tribu d'Israël
2 Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded Moses for the nine and one-half tribes.	2 distribuèrent aux neuf tribus et à la moitié de la tribu de Manassé, en faisant tout le partage au sort, comme le Seigneur l'avait ordonné à (par l'entremise de) Moïse.
3 For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.	3 Car Moïse avait donné aux deux autres tribus et à une moitié de la tribu de Manassé des terres au-delà du Jourdain, sans compter les Lévites qui ne reçurent point de terre comme tous leurs frères.
4 For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their cattle and their substance.	4 Mais les enfants de Joseph, Manassé et Ephraïm, divisés en deux tribus, succédèrent en leur place ; et les Lévites n'eurent point d'autre part dans la terre de Chanaan, que des villes pour y habiter, avec leurs faubourgs pour nourrir leurs bêtes et leurs troupeaux.
5 The people of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses; they allotted the land.	5 Les enfants d'Israël exécutèrent ce que le Seigneur avait ordonné à Moïse, et ils partagèrent le pays.
6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me.	6 Alors (C'est pourquoi) les enfants de Juda vinrent trouver Josué à Galgala ; et Caleb, fils de Jéphoné, (le) Cénézéen, lui parla de cette sorte : Tu sais ce que le Seigneur (a) dit de moi et de toi à Moïse, homme de Dieu, lorsque nous étions à Cadèsbarné.
7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart.	7 J'avais quarante ans lorsque Moïse, serviteur du Seigneur, m'envoya de Cadèsbarné pour reconnaître la contrée, et je lui fis mon rapport tel que je le croyais véritable.
8 But my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the LORD my God.	8 Mais mes frères qui y étaient allés avec moi jetèrent l'épouvante dans le cœur du peuple ; et je ne laissai pas néanmoins de suivre le Seigneur mon Dieu.
9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children for ever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.'	9 En ce jour-là Moïse me jura et me dit : La terre où tu as mis le pied sera ton héritage et l'héritage de tes enfants à jamais, parce que tu as suivi le Seigneur mon Dieu.
10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness; and now, lo, I am this day eighty-five years old.	10 Le Seigneur m'a donc conservé la vie jusqu'à ce jour, comme il le promit alors. Il y a quarante-cinq ans que le Seigneur dit cette parole à Moïse lorsqu'Israël allait par le désert. J'ai maintenant quatre-vingt-cinq ans,
11 I am still as strong to this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war, and for going and coming.	11 et je suis aussi fort que j'étais au temps où je fus envoyé pour reconnaître le pays. La même vigueur que j'avais alors m'est demeurée jusqu'à ce jour, soit pour combattre, soit pour marcher.
12 So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out as the LORD said."	12 Donne-moi donc cette montagne que le Seigneur m'a promise, comme tu l'as entendu toi-même, sur laquelle il y a des Géants (Enacim) et des villes grandes et fortes ; afin que j'éprouve si le Seigneur sera avec moi, et si je pourrai les exterminer ainsi qu'il me l'a promis.
13 Then Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.	13 Josué bénit donc Caleb, et il lui donna Hébron pour son héritage ;
14 So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel.	14 et depuis ce temps-là Hébron a été à Caleb, fils de Jéphoné, Cénézéen, jusqu'à ce jour, parce qu'il suivit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël.
15 Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba; this Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.	15 Hébron s'appelait auparavant Cariatharbé. Et il y avait en ce lieu-là un grand homme célèbre parmi les Géants (Enacim) mêmes. Toutes les guerres cessèrent alors dans le pays de Chanaan.
