John 5

1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	1 Dopo ciò, essendo una festa dei Giudei, Gesù andò a Gerusalemme.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes.	2 Or in Gerusalemme vi è la piscina probatica, detta in ebraico: Betsaida, la quale ha cinque portici.
3 In these lay a multitude of invalids, blind, lame, paralyzed.	3 In questi giaceva gran quantità d'infermi, ciechi, zoppi e paralitici ad aspettare il moto dell'acqua n'era agitata.
4 .	4 Un Angelo del Signore, infatti, scendeva ogni tanto nella piscina, e l'acqua n'era agitata. E chi per il primo vi si tuffava dopo il moto dell'acqua guariva da qualunque malattia fosse oppresso.
5 One man was there, who had been ill for thirty-eight years.	5 E vi stava un uomo che era infermo da trentotto anni.
6 When Jesus saw him and knew that he had been lying there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be healed?"	6 Gesù, vistolo giacere, e sapendo che da molto tempo si trovava in quella condizione, gli disse: Vuoi essere guarito?
7 The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is troubled, and while I am going another steps down before me."	7 Signore, rispose l'infermo, non ho nessuno che mi metta nella vasca quando l'acqua è agitata; e quando mi accosto io, un altro vi è già disceso prima di me.
8 Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your pallet, and walk."	8 Gesù gli disse: Alzati, prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina.
9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his pallet and walked. Now that day was the sabbath.	9 E nell'istante l'uomo guari; e, preso il lettuccio, cominciò a camminare. Or quel giorno era in sabato.
10 So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the sabbath, it is not lawful for you to carry your pallet."	10 E quindi i Giudei dicevano vi risanato: E' sabato, non ti è lecito portare il tuo lettuccio.
11 But he answered them, "The man who healed me said to me, 'Take up your pallet, and walk.'"	11 Ma egli rispose loro: Quello stesso che mi ha guarito mi ha detto: prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina.
12 They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your pallet, and walk'?"	12 Gli domandarono allora: chi è quell'uomo che t'ha detto: Prendi il tuo lettuccio e cammina?
13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.	13 Ma il guarito non sapeva chi fosse; perchè Gesù s'era allontanato dalla folla che era sul posto.
14 Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you."	14 Poco dopo Gesù lo trovò nel tempio e gli disse: Ecco, sei guarito, non peccar più, chè non ti avvenga di peggio.
15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.	15 E quello andò a riferire ai Giudei che era Gesù quello che lo aveva guarito.
16 And this was why the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did this on the sabbath.	16 Per questo i Giudei perseguitavano Gesù che faceva tali cose di sabato.
17 But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working still, and I am working."	17 Ma Gesù rispose loro: Il Padre mio opera ancora, ed io pure opero.
18 This was why the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God.	18 I Giudei quindi cercavano più che mai di ucciderlo: perchè, non solo violava il sabato, ma inoltre chiamava Dio suo Padre, facendosi uguale a Dio.
19 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, that the Son does likewise.	19 Or Gesù rispose loro: In verità, in verità vi dico: il Figlio non può fare da sè se non ciò che ha veduto fare dal Padre; e tutte le cose che fa il Padre le fa anche il Figlio.
20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all that he himself is doing; and greater works than these will he show him, that you may marvel.	20 Siccome il Padre ama il Figlio, gli manifesta quanto fa egli stesso; e gli mostrerà opere maggiori di queste affinchè voi ne restiate maravigliati.
21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.	21 Come infatti il Padre risuscita i morti e rende loro la vita, così pure il Figlio dà la vita a quelli che vuole.
22 The Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,	22 E il Padre non giudica nessuno; ma ha rimesso ogni giudizio al Figlio,
23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.	23 affinchè tutti onorino il Figlio come onorano il Padre; chi non onora il Figlio non onora il Padre che lo ha mandato.
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.	24 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi ascolta la mia parola e crede in colui che mi ha mandato, ha la vita eterna e non incorre nella condanna, ma passa da morte a vita.
25 "Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.	25 In verità, in verità vi dico: viene l'ora, ed è questa, in cui i morti udranno la voce del Figlio di Dio, e chi l'avrà sentito vivrà.
26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself,	26 Perché come il Padre ha in sè la vita, così pure ha dato al Figlio d'aver la vita in sè stesso,
27 and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of man.	27 e gli ha dato il potere di giudicare, perchè è Figlio dell'uomo.
28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice	28 Non vi maravigliate di questo, perchè vien l'ora in cui tutti nei sepolcri udranno la voce del Figlio di Dio;
29 and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.	29 e ne usciranno quanti fecero il bene, alla risurrezione della vita; quanti poi fecero il male, alla risurrezione della condanna.
30 "I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.	30 Io non posso fare nulla da me stesso. Giudico secondo quello che ascolto, ed il mio giudizio è retto, perchè non cerco il volere mio, ma il volere di Colui che mi ha mandato.
31 If I bear witness to myself, my testimony is not true;	31 Se io rendo testimonianza a me stesso, la mia testimonianza non è accettabile.
32 there is another who bears witness to me, and I know that the testimony which he bears to me is true.	32 V'è un altro che testifica per me e so che la testimonianza che egli mi rende è verace.
33 You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.	33 Voi avete mandato a interrogare Giovanni, ed egli ha reso testimonianza alla verità.
34 Not that the testimony which I receive is from man; but I say this that you may be saved.	34 Io però non ricevo testimonianza dall'uomo; ma ciò vi dico per la vostra salvezza.
35 He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.	35 Egli era la lampada ardente e luminosa, ma voi avete voluto godere per poco della sua luce.
36 But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father has granted me to accomplish, these very works which I am doing, bear me witness that the Father has sent me.	36 Io però ho una testimonianza maggiore di quella di Giovanni. Perchè le opere che il Padre mi ha dato da compiere, quelle stesse opere che io faccio, a favor mio testificano che il Padre mi ha mandato.
37 And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness to me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen;	37 E il Padre che mi ha mandato, egli stesso ha reso testimonianza a mio favore. Voi non avete mai sentito la sua voce, nè visto mai il suo volto,
38 and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe him whom he has sent.	38 e non avete in voi dimorante la sua parola, perchè non scredete a chi egli ha mandato.
39 You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me;	39 Voi investigate le Scritture, dperchè credete di aver per esse la vita eterna: e son proprio quelle che parlano in favor mio.
40 yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.	40 Eppure non volete venire a me per avere la vita.
41 I do not receive glory from men.	41 Io non accetto gloria dagli uomini.
42 But I know that you have not the love of God within you.	42 Ma vi ho conosciuti che non avete in voi amor di Dio.
43 I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.	43 Io sono venuto in nome del Padre mio e non mi ricevete;
44 How can you believe, who receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?	44 e un altro verrà in proprio nome, lo riceverete.
45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; it is Moses who accuses you, on whom you set your hope.	45 Come potete creder voi che mendicate la gloria gli uni dagli altri, e non cercate la gloria che da Dio solo procede?
46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote of me.	46 Nè vi pensate che sia io colui che vi accuserà davanti al Padre; v'è già chi v'accusa: quel Mosè stesso in cui sperate.
47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?"	47 Che se credeste a Mosè, a me pure credereste, di me infatti egli ha scritto.
	48 Se dunque non credete agii scritti di lui, come crederete alle mie parole?
