Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Nova Vulgata
After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come.1 Post haec autem designavit Dominus alios septuaginta duos et misit illosbinos ante faciem suam in omnem civitatem et locum, quo erat ipse venturus.
And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.2 Etdicebat illis: “ Messis quidem multa, operarii autem pauci; rogate ergoDominum messis, ut mittat operarios in messem suam.
Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.3 Ite; ecce ego mitto vossicut agnos inter lupos.
Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and salute no one on the road.4 Nolite portare sacculum neque peram neque calceamentaet neminem per viam salutaveritis.
Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house!'5 In quamcumque domum intraveritis, primumdicite: “Pax huic domui”.
And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you.6 Et si ibi fuerit filius pacis, requiescet superillam pax vestra; sin autem, ad vos revertetur.
And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house.7 In eadem autem domo maneteedentes et bibentes, quae apud illos sunt: dignus enim est operarius mercedesua. Nolite transire de domo in domum.
Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you;8 Et in quamcumque civitatemintraveritis, et susceperint vos, manducate, quae apponuntur vobis,
heal the sick in it and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'9 et curateinfirmos, qui in illa sunt, et dicite illis: “Appropinquavit in vos regnum Dei”.
But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,10 In quamcumque civitatem intraveritis, et non receperint vos, exeuntes inplateas eius dicite:
'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you; nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.'11 “Etiam pulverem, qui adhaesit nobis ad pedes decivitate vestra, extergimus in vos; tamen hoc scitote, quia appropinquavitregnum Dei”.
I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that town.12 Dico vobis quia Sodomis in die illa remissius erit quam illicivitati.
"Woe to you, Chorazin! woe to you, Beth-saida! for if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.13 Vae tibi, Chorazin! Vae tibi, Bethsaida! Quia si in Tyro et Sidonefactae fuissent virtutes, quae in vobis factae sunt, olim in cilicio et cineresedentes paeniterent.
But it shall be more tolerable in the judgment for Tyre and Sidon than for you.14 Verumtamen Tyro et Sidoni remissius erit in iudicioquam vobis.
And you, Caperna-um, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades.15 Et tu, Capharnaum, numquid usque in caelum exaltaberis? Usque ad infernumdemergeris!
"He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."16 Qui vos audit, me audit; et, qui vos spernit, me spernit; qui autem mespernit, spernit eum, qui me misit ”.
The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!"17 Reversi sunt autem septuaginta duo cum gaudio dicentes: “ Domine, etiamdaemonia subiciuntur nobis in nomine tuo! ”.
And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.18 Et ait illis: “ VidebamSatanam sicut fulgur de caelo cadentem.
Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.19 Ecce dedi vobis potestatem calcandisupra serpentes et scorpiones et supra omnem virtutem inimici; et nihil vobisnocebit.
Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."20 Verumtamen in hoc nolite gaudere, quia spiritus vobis subiciuntur;gaudete autem quod nomina vestra scripta sunt in caelis ”.
In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank thee, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yea, Father, for such was thy gracious will.21 In ipsa hora exsultavit Spiritu Sancto et dixit: “ Confiteor tibi, Pater,Domine caeli et terrae, quod abscondisti haec a sapientibus et prudentibus etrevelasti ea parvulis; etiam, Pater, quia sic placuit ante te.
All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."22 Omnia mihitradita sunt a Patre meo; et nemo scit qui sit Filius, nisi Pater, et qui sitPater, nisi Filius et cui voluerit Filius revelare ”.
Then turning to the disciples he said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see!23 Et conversus ad discipulos seorsum dixit: “ Beati oculi, qui vident, quaevidetis.
For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."24 Dico enim vobis: Multi prophetae et reges voluerunt videre, quae vosvidetis, et non viderunt, et audire, quae auditis, et non audierunt ”.
And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"25 Et ecce quidam legis peritus surrexit tentans illum dicens: “ Magister, quid faciendo vitam aeternam possidebo? ”.
He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"26 At ille dixit ad eum: “ InLege quid scriptum est? Quomodo legis? ”.
And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."27 Ille autem respondens dixit: “Diliges Dominum Deum tuum ex toto corde tuo et ex tota anima tua et ex omnibusviribus tuis et ex omni mente tua et proximum tuum sicut teipsum ”.
And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."28 Dixitque illi: “ Recte respondisti; hoc fac et vives ”.
But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"29 Ille autem, volens iustificare seipsum, dixit ad Iesum: “ Et quis est meus proximus? ”.
Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.30 Suscipiens autem Iesus dixit: “ Homo quidam descendebat ab Ierusalem inIericho et incidit in latrones, qui etiam despoliaverunt eum et, plagisimpositis, abierunt, semivivo relicto.
Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.31 Accidit autem, ut sacerdos quidamdescenderet eadem via et, viso illo, praeterivit;
So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.32 similiter et Levita, cumesset secus locum et videret eum, pertransiit.
But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion,33 Samaritanus autem quidam iterfaciens, venit secus eum et videns eum misericordia motus est,
and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.34 et appropiansalligavit vulnera eius infundens oleum et vinum; et imponens illum in iumentumsuum duxit in stabulum et curam eius egit.
And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'35 Et altera die protulit duosdenarios et dedit stabulario et ait: “Curam illius habe, et, quodcumquesupererogaveris, ego, cum rediero, reddam tibi”.
Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"36 Quis horum trium videturtibi proximus fuisse illi, qui incidit in latrones? ”.
He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."37 At ille dixit: “Qui fecit misericordiam in illum ”. Et ait illi Iesus: “ Vade et tu facsimiliter ”.
Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha received him into her house.38 Cum autem irent, ipse intravit in quoddam castellum, et mulier quaedam Marthanomine excepit illum.
And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching.39 Et huic erat soror nomine Maria, quae etiam sedenssecus pedes Domini audiebat verbum illius.
But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."40 Martha autem satagebat circafrequens ministerium; quae stetit et ait: “ Domine, non est tibi curae quodsoror mea reliquit me solam ministrare? Dic ergo illi, ut me adiuvet ”.
But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;41 Etrespondens dixit illi Dominus: “ Martha, Martha, sollicita es et turbaris ergaplurima,
one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her."42 porro unum est necessarium; Maria enim optimam partem elegit, quaenon auferetur ab ea ”.
