1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,	1 Amikor közeledtek Jeruzsálemhez és Betániához, az Olajfák hegyénél előre küldött kettőt a tanítványai közül.
2 and said to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat; untie it and bring it.	2 Azt mondta nekik: »Menjetek be ebbe a helységbe, amelyik előttetek van, és mindjárt, amint bementek, egy szamarat találtok megkötve, amelyen még ember nem ült. Oldjátok el, és hozzátok ide.
3 If any one says to you, 'Why are you doing this?' say, 'The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.'"	3 Ha pedig valaki megkérdezi tőletek, miért teszitek ezt, mondjátok, hogy az Úrnak van rá szüksége, és azonnal elengedi ide.«
4 And they went away, and found a colt tied at the door out in the open street; and they untied it.	4 Azok elmentek, megtalálták a szamarat az ajtóhoz kötve, kinn a keresztúton, és eloldották.
5 And those who stood there said to them, "What are you doing, untying the colt?"	5 Az ott állók közül egyesek azt mondták nekik: »Miért oldjátok el a szamarat?«
6 And they told them what Jesus had said; and they let them go.	6 Ők azt felelték, amit Jézus parancsolt nekik, erre elengedték azokat.
7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and threw their garments on it; and he sat upon it.	7 A szamarat elvitték Jézushoz. Ráterítették ruháikat, ő pedig felült rá.
8 And many spread their garments on the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.	8 Sokan az útra terítették ruhájukat, mások meg lombokat vagdaltak a fákról, és az útra szórták.
9 And those who went before and those who followed cried out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!	9 Akik előtte mentek és akik követték, így kiáltoztak: »Hozsanna! Áldott, aki az Úr nevében jön!
10 Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!"	10 Áldott a mi atyánknak, Dávidnak országa, amely íme, eljön! Hozsanna a magasságban!«
11 And he entered Jerusalem, and went into the temple; and when he had looked round at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.	11 Ő pedig bement Jeruzsálembe, a templomba. Mindent megnézett, de mivel már estére járt az idő, kiment Betániába a tizenkettővel.
12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry.	12 Másnap, amikor kimentek Betániából, megéhezett.
13 And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.	13 Meglátott messziről egy lombos fügefát. Elindult feléje, hátha talál rajta valamit. Mikor azonban odaért, semmit sem talált rajta, csak leveleket; ekkor még nem volt fügeérés ideje.
14 And he said to it, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard it.	14 Erre megszólalt, és azt mondta neki: »Senki ne egyen rólad többé soha gyümölcsöt!« A tanítványai hallották ezt.
15 And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons;	15 Azután Jeruzsálembe értek. Bement a templomba, és kezdte kiűzni azokat, akik adtak és vettek a templomban. A pénzváltók asztalait és a galambárusok székeit fölforgatta,
16 and he would not allow any one to carry anything through the temple.	16 s nem engedte meg, hogy valaki bármilyen edényt átvigyen a templomtéren.
17 And he taught, and said to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? But you have made it a den of robbers."	17 Azután így tanította őket: »Nincs talán megírva, hogy az én házam az imádság háza lesz minden nemzet számára? Ti pedig rablók barlangjává tettétek azt.«
18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and sought a way to destroy him; for they feared him, because all the multitude was astonished at his teaching.	18 Mikor a főpapok és az írástudók meghallották ezt, azon törték a fejüket, hogy mi módon veszítsék el őt. Féltek ugyanis tőle, mert az egész tömeg csodálkozott a tanításán.
19 And when evening came they went out of the city.	19 Amikor beesteledett, kiment a városból.
20 As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots.	20 Másnap reggel, amikor elmentek a fügefa mellett, látták, hogy tőből kiszáradt.
21 And Peter remembered and said to him, "Master, look! The fig tree which you cursed has withered."	21 Péter visszaemlékezett, és azt mondta neki: »Rabbi, nézd, a fügefa, amelyet megátkoztál, kiszáradt.«
22 And Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God.	22 Jézus ezt felelte nekik: »Higgyetek Istenben!
23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.	23 Bizony, mondom nektek: ha valaki azt mondja ennek a hegynek: ‘Emelkedj fel és vesd magad a tengerbe!’, és nem kételkedik szívében, hanem hiszi, hogy megtörténik, amit mond, akkor az meg is fog történni.
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.	24 Azért mondom nektek: Mindazt, amit imádkozva kértek, higgyétek, hogy már elnyertétek, és meglesz nektek.
25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against any one; so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses."	25 Amikor azonban felálltok, hogy imádkozzatok, bocsássátok meg, ha valami sérelmetek van valaki ellen, hogy a ti Atyátok is, aki a mennyekben van, megbocsássa nektek vétkeiteket.«

27 And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him,	27 Ezután ismét Jeruzsálembe mentek. Amint a templomban járt, odamentek hozzá a főpapok, az írástudók és a vének,
28 and they said to him, "By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?"	28 és azt mondták neki: »Milyen hatalommal teszed mindezt? Ki adta neked a hatalmat, hogy ilyeneket tegyél?«
29 Jesus said to them, "I will ask you a question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.	29 Jézus így felelt nekik: »Kérdezek tőletek én is egy dolgot. Feleljetek meg nekem, s akkor én is megmondom nektek, milyen hatalommal teszem mindezt.
30 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer me."	30 János keresztsége a mennyből volt vagy az emberektől? Feleljetek nekem!«
31 And they argued with one another, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'	31 Azok így tanakodtak egymás közt: »Ha azt mondjuk, a mennyből, azt mondja majd: akkor miért nem hittetek neki?
32 But shall we say, 'From men'?"--they were afraid of the people, for all held that John was a real prophet.	32 Ha pedig azt mondjuk: ‘Az emberektől’?« Féltek a néptől, mert mindnyájan azt tartották Jánosról, hogy valóban próféta volt.
33 So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."	33 Azt felelték tehát Jézusnak: »Nem tudjuk.« Jézus erre azt mondta nekik: »Én sem mondom meg nektek, milyen hatalommal teszem mindezt.«
