1 When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not go, as at other times, to look for omens, but set his face toward the wilderness.	1 Balaam vide che era buono agli occhi del Signore benedire Israele, non andò come altre volte incontro a presagi e girò la sua faccia verso la piana deserta.
2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and saw Israel encamping tribe by tribe. And the Spirit of God came upon him,	2 Balaam alzò i suoi occhi, vide Israele disposto per tribù e su di lui fu lo spirito di Dio.
3 and he took up his discourse, and said, "The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,	3 Pronunciò il suo poema e disse: "Oracolo di Balaam, figlio di Beor, oracolo dell'uomo con l'occhio aperto,
4 the oracle of him who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, but having his eyes uncovered:	4 oracolo di chi ascolta parole di Dio e conosce la scienza dell'Altissimo, di chi vede la visione dell'Onnipotente, cade e i suoi occhi si aprono.
5 how fair are your tents, O Jacob, your encampments, O Israel!	5 Come sono belle le tue tende, Giacobbe, le tue dimore, Israele.
6 Like valleys that stretch afar, like gardens beside a river, like aloes that the LORD has planted, like cedar trees beside the waters.	6 Si distendono come torrenti, come orti presso un fiume, come aloe che ha piantato il Signore, come cedri presso l'acqua.
7 Water shall flow from his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.	7 Scorre l'acqua dai suoi pozzi sorgivi, il suo seme è in acque abbondanti: si eleva più di Agag il suo re, s'innalza il suo regno.
8 God brings him out of Egypt; he has as it were the horns of the wild ox, he shall eat up the nations his adversaries, and shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them through with his arrows.	8 Dio l'ha fatto uscire dall'Egitto, come corna di bufalo è per lui: divora le nazioni che l'avversano, consuma le loro ossa, spezza le sue frecce.
9 He couched, he lay down like a lion, and like a lioness; who will rouse him up? Blessed be every one who blesses you, and cursed be every one who curses you."	9 Si china, giace come un leone, come una leonessa: chi lo farà alzare? Sia benedetto chi ti benedice, maledetto chi ti maledice".
10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them these three times.	10 Lo sdegno di Balak divampò contro Balaam; batté le mani e disse a Balaam: "Ti ho chiamato per maledire i miei nemici, ed ecco che li hai benedetti per tre volte!
11 Therefore now flee to your place; I said, 'I will certainly honor you,' but the LORD has held you back from honor."	11 Ora fuggi a casa tua. Ti avevo detto di onorarti, ma ecco che il Signore non ha voluto onorarti".
12 And Balaam said to Balak, "Did I not tell your messengers whom you sent to me,	12 Balaam disse a Balak: "Anche ai messaggeri che mi inviasti, non parlai forse dicendo:
13 'If Balak should give me his house full of silver and gold, I would not be able to go beyond the word of the LORD, to do either good or bad of my own will; what the LORD speaks, that will I speak?	13 "Se Balak mi desse la sua casa piena di argento e oro, non potrei trasgredire l'ordine del Signore per fare bene o male, senza dire quello che il Signore mi ha detto"?
14 And now, behold, I am going to my people; come, I will let you know what this people will do to your people in the latter days."	14 Ora ecco ritorno al mio popolo: vieni, voglio informarti di quello che questo popolo farà al tuo popolo in avvenire".
15 And he took up his discourse, and said, "The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,	15 Pronunciò il suo poema e disse: "Oracolo di Balaam, figlio di Beor, oracolo dell'uomo aperto d'occhio,
16 the oracle of him who hears the words of God, and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, but having his eyes uncovered:	16 oracolo di chi ascolta parole di Dio, e conosce la scienza dell'Altissimo; vede quello che l'Onnipotente gli fa vedere, cade e gli occhi si aprono.
17 I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh: a star shall come forth out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab, and break down all the sons of Sheth.	17 Lo vedo, ma non ora, lo guardo, ma non da vicino: una stella si muove da Giacobbe, si alza uno scettro da Israele, spezza i fianchi di Moab, il cranio di tutti i figli di Set.
18 Edom shall be dispossessed, Seir also, his enemies, shall be dispossessed, while Israel does valiantly.	18 Suo possesso sarà Edom, suo possesso Seir, suo nemico: Israele agirà con potenza;
19 By Jacob shall dominion be exercised, and the survivors of cities be destroyed!"	19 Giacobbe dominerà i suoi nemici, farà perire lo scampato da Ar".
20 Then he looked on Amalek, and took up his discourse, and said, "Amalek was the first of the nations, but in the end he shall come to destruction."	20 Vide Amalek, pronunziò il suo poema e disse: "Primizia delle nazioni è Amalek, ma il suo avvenire si perde per sempre".
21 And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his discourse, and said, "Enduring is your dwelling place, and your nest is set in the rock;	21 Vide i Keniti, pronunziò il suo poema e disse: "Stabile è la tua dimora, o Caino, posto sulla roccia il tuo nido:
22 nevertheless Kain shall be wasted. How long shall Asshur take you away captive?"	22 eppure sarà dato alla distruzione fino a quando Assur ti farà prigioniero".
23 And he took up his discourse, and said, "Alas, who shall live when God does this?	23 Pronunciò poi ancora il suo poema e disse: "Guai: chi vivrà se lo prende Dio.
24 But ships shall come from Kittim and shall afflict Asshur and Eber; and he also shall come to destruction."	24 Navi da parte di Cipro: opprimono Assur, opprimono Eber; anch'egli si perde per sempre".
25 Then Balaam rose, and went back to his place; and Balak also went his way.	25 Poi Balaam si alzò, se ne andò e ritornò alla sua regione. Anche Balak se ne andò per la sua strada.
