1 When Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not go, as at other times, to look for omens, but set his face toward the wilderness.	1 - Allora Balaam, avendo veduto che al Signore piaceva ch'egli benedicesse Israele, non andò altrimenti, come aveva fatto prima, a cercare l'augurio, ma voltatosi verso il deserto,
2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and saw Israel encamping tribe by tribe. And the Spirit of God came upon him,	2 e levati gli occhi, vide Israele nelle sue tende, tribù per tribù; e rapito dallo spirito di Dio,
3 and he took up his discourse, and said, "The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,	3 cominciò a vaticinare dicendo: «Parlò Balaam figlio di Beor; parlò l'uomo dall'occhio chiuso;
4 the oracle of him who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, but having his eyes uncovered:	4 parlò quegli che ode le parole di Dio, che scorse la visione dell'Onnipotente, quegli che cade, e poi gli s'aprono gli occhi.
5 how fair are your tents, O Jacob, your encampments, O Israel!	5 Come son belli i tuoi padiglioni, o Giacobbe, e le tue tende, o Israele!
6 Like valleys that stretch afar, like gardens beside a river, like aloes that the LORD has planted, like cedar trees beside the waters.	6 Come valli boscose, come orti irrigui lungo i fiumi, come tabernacoli piantati dal Signore, come cedri presso alle acque.
7 Water shall flow from his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.	7 L'acqua fluirà dalla sua secchia, e la sua discendenza sarà di molte acque. Il suo re verrà rispettato a causa di Agag, e gli sarà tolto il regno.
8 God brings him out of Egypt; he has as it were the horns of the wild ox, he shall eat up the nations his adversaries, and shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them through with his arrows.	8 Iddio lo cavò dall'Egitto, e la sua forza è come quella del rinoceronte. Divoreranno le genti loro nemiche, ne spezzeranno le ossa, le trapasseranno con le saette.
9 He couched, he lay down like a lion, and like a lioness; who will rouse him up? Blessed be every one who blesses you, and cursed be every one who curses you."	9 Si sdraia per dormire, come un leone, o come una leonessa che nessuno oserebbe svegliare. Chi ti benedirà sarà anch'egli benedetto; chi ti maledirà, gli sarà contato in maledizione.»
10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, "I called you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them these three times.	10 Sdegnato Balac contro Balaam, battendo le mani, disse: «Io ti ho chiamato per maledire i miei nemici, e tu invece per tre volte li hai benedetti.
11 Therefore now flee to your place; I said, 'I will certainly honor you,' but the LORD has held you back from honor."	11 Torna al tuo paese. Io avevo stabilito di ricompensarti magnificamente, ma il Signore t'ha fatto perdere la ricompensa preparata».
12 And Balaam said to Balak, "Did I not tell your messengers whom you sent to me,	12 Rispose Balaam a Balac: «Agli ambasciatori che mi mandasti, non dissi io:
13 'If Balak should give me his house full of silver and gold, I would not be able to go beyond the word of the LORD, to do either good or bad of my own will; what the LORD speaks, that will I speak?	13 - Se Balac mi desse la sua casa piena d'argento e d'oro, non potrei trasgredire gli ordini del Signore Dio mio, o dire di mia volontà cosa alcuna di bene o di male; ma qualunque cosa mi dirà il Signore, quella dirò? -
14 And now, behold, I am going to my people; come, I will let you know what this people will do to your people in the latter days."	14 Tuttavia, sul punto di ritornare al mio popolo, ti darò un consiglio, intorno a ciò che il tuo popolo farà a questo popolo negli ultimi tempi».
15 And he took up his discourse, and said, "The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,	15 Ricominciando dunque a vaticinare disse: «Parlò Balaam figlio di Beor; parlò l'uomo al quale s'è chiuso l'occhio;
16 the oracle of him who hears the words of God, and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, but having his eyes uncovered:	16 parlò colui che ascolta le parole di Dio, che conosce la dottrina dell'Altissimo, che vede le visioni dell'Onnipotente, che cade, ed ha aperti gli occhi.
17 I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh: a star shall come forth out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab, and break down all the sons of Sheth.	17 Io lo vedrò, ma non ora; lo rimirerò, ma non da vicino. Una stella nascerà da Giacobbe, uno scettro si leverà da Israele; e percoterà i capi di Moab; disperderà tutti i figli di Set.
18 Edom shall be dispossessed, Seir also, his enemies, shall be dispossessed, while Israel does valiantly.	18 L'Idumea sarà sua possessione, l'eredità di Seir andrà a' suoi nemici; ma Israele si condurrà da forte.
19 By Jacob shall dominion be exercised, and the survivors of cities be destroyed!"	19 Da Giacobbe uscirà il dominatore, e sperderà gli avanzi delle città.»
20 Then he looked on Amalek, and took up his discourse, and said, "Amalek was the first of the nations, but in the end he shall come to destruction."	20 Rimirando poi Amalec, riprese il suo sermone, e disse:«Amalec, primizia delle nazioni; sua fine sarà la distruzione.»
21 And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his discourse, and said, "Enduring is your dwelling place, and your nest is set in the rock;	21 Vide anche il Cineo, e, ripreso il suo vaticinio, disse: «Forte è veramente il tuo rifugio; ma anche se ti fossi annidato nella pietra,
22 nevertheless Kain shall be wasted. How long shall Asshur take you away captive?"	22 e tu fossi l'eletto della stirpe di Cin, quanto potresti durare? Perchè Assur ti farà prigioniero.»
23 And he took up his discourse, and said, "Alas, who shall live when God does this?	23 Poi, ripreso il suo eloquio, disse ancora: «Ahimè, chi sarà vivo quando Dio farà queste cose?
24 But ships shall come from Kittim and shall afflict Asshur and Eber; and he also shall come to destruction."	24 Verranno dall'Italia sulle navi, vinceranno gli Assiri, disperderanno gli Ebrei, ed in ultimo periranno essi pure.»
25 Then Balaam rose, and went back to his place; and Balak also went his way.	25 Quindi Balaam si levò, e tornò al suo paese. Anche Balac se ne ritornò per la stessa via per la quale era venuto.
