The LORD said to Moses,1 El Señor dijo a Moisés:
"Make two silver trumpets; of hammered work you shall make them; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation, and for breaking camp.2 «Hazte dos trompetas de plata maciza. Te servirán para convocar a la comunidad y dar la señal de mover el campamento.
And when both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the entrance of the tent of meeting.3 Al toque de las dos, se reunirá contigo toda la comunidad, a la entrada de la Tienda del Encuentro.
But if they blow only one, then the leaders, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.4 Al toque de una sola, se reunirán contigo los jefes, los cabezas de clanes de Israel.
When you blow an alarm, the camps that are on the east side shall set out.5 Al primer toque con estruendo, se pondrán en marcha los que acampan al Este.
And when you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out.6 Al segundo toque con estruendo, los campamentos que acampan al Sur. Para ponerse en marcha, se tocará un toque con estruendo;
But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm.7 en cambio, para congregar la asamblea, el toque será sin estruendo.
And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. The trumpets shall be to you for a perpetual statute throughout your generations.8 Los sacerdotes, hijos de Aarón, serán los que toquen las trompetas. Es una ley perpetua para vosotros y para vuestra descendencia.
And when you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies.9 Cuando, ya en vuestra tierra, vayáis a luchar contra un enemigo que os oprime, tocaréis con las trompetas un toque con estruendo. Así el Señor, vuestro Dios, se acordará de vosotros, y seréis librados de vuestros enemigos.
On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts, and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; they shall serve you for remembrance before your God: I am the LORD your God."10 En vuestros días de fiesta, solemnidades y primeros de mes, tocaréis las trompetas anunciando vuestros holocaustos y sacrificios de comunión. Así vuestro Dios se acordará de vosotros. Yo soy el Señor, vuestro Dios».
In the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony,11 El año segundo, el mes segundo, el día veinte del mes, se levantó la Nube de encima de la Morada del Testimonio
and the people of Israel set out by stages from the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud settled down in the wilderness of Paran.12 y los hijos de Israel partieron, en orden de marcha, del desierto del Sinaí. La Nube se detuvo en el desierto de Farán.
They set out for the first time at the command of the LORD by Moses.13 Partieron en vanguardia, según la orden que el Señor había dado a Moisés:
The standard of the camp of the men of Judah set out first by their companies; and over their host was Nahshon the son of Amminadab.14 en primer lugar, el banderín del campamento de los hijos de Judá, por escuadrones; al frente de su tropa iba Najsón, hijo de Aminadab;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Issachar was Nethanel the son of Zuar.15 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Isacar, Natanel, hijo de Suar;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Zebulun was Eliab the son of Helon.16 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Zabulón, Eliab, hijo de Jalón.
And when the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who carried the tabernacle, set out.17 Entonces fue desmontada la Morada, y los guersonitas y los meraritas se pusieron en marcha llevando la Morada.
And the standard of the camp of Reuben set out by their companies; and over their host was Elizur the son of Shedeur.18 Partió luego el banderín del campamento de Rubén, por escuadrones: al frente de su tropa iba Elisur, hijo de Sedeur;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Simeon was Shelumi-el the son of Zurishaddai.19 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Simeón, Salumiel, hijo de Surisaday;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.20 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Gad, Elyasaf, hijo de Regüel.
Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things, and the tabernacle was set up before their arrival.21 Entonces partieron los queatitas, que llevaban el santuario. (La Morada se montaba antes de que llegaran ellos).
And the standard of the camp of the men of Ephraim set out by their companies; and over their host was Elishama the son of Ammihud.22 Partió luego el banderín del campamento de los hijos de Efraín, por escuadrones; al frente de su tropa iba Elisamá, hijo de Amihud;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.23 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Manasés, Gamaliel, hijo de Fedasur;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni.24 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Benjamín, Abidán, hijo de Guideoní.
Then the standard of the camp of the men of Dan, acting as the rear guard of all the camps, set out by their companies; and over their host was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.25 Luego, cerrando la marcha de todos los campamentos, partió el banderín del campamento de los hijos de Dan, por escuadrones: al frente de su tropa iba Ajiécer, hijo de Amisaday;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ochran.26 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Aser, Paguiel, hijo de Ocrán;
And over the host of the tribe of the men of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan.27 al frente de la tropa de la tribu de los hijos de Neftalí, Ajirá, hijo de Enán.
This was the order of march of the people of Israel according to their hosts, when they set out.28 Este fue el orden de marcha de los hijos de Israel, repartidos en escuadrones. Así se pusieron en marcha.
And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you'; come with us, and we will do you good; for the LORD has promised good to Israel."29 Dijo Moisés a su suegro, Jobab, hijo de Regüel el madianita: «Nosotros nos marchamos para el lugar que el Señor ha prometido darnos. Ven con nosotros, que te trataremos bien, porque el Señor ha prometido bienestar a Israel».
But he said to him, "I will not go; I will depart to my own land and to my kindred."30 Él respondió: «No voy; me vuelvo a mi tierra y a mi parentela».
And he said, "Do not leave us, I pray you, for you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us.31 Moisés insistió: «Por favor, no nos dejes; tú conoces los sitios donde acampar en el desierto; tú serás nuestros ojos.
And if you go with us, whatever good the LORD will do to us, the same will we do to you."32 Si vienes con nosotros, te haremos compartir con nosotros los bienes que el Señor nos va a conceder».
So they set out from the mount of the LORD three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them.33 Partieron del monte del Señor e hicieron tres jornadas. Los tres días de camino iba el Arca de la Alianza del Señor delante de ellos buscándoles dónde hacer alto.
And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, whenever they set out from the camp.34 Desde que se pusieron en marcha, la Nube del Señor iba de día sobre ellos.
And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, "Arise, O LORD, and let thy enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee."
And when it rested, he said, "Return, O LORD, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel."36 Y cuando se detenía, decía: «Descansa, Señor, | entre los millares de millares de Israel».
