Jeremiah 13

1 Thus said the LORD to me, "Go and buy a linen waistcloth, and put it on your loins, and do not dip it in water."	1 Così mi disse Jahvè: «Va’ a comprarti una cintura di lino e ponila sui tuoi fianchi senza farle toccare l’acqua».
2 So I bought a waistcloth according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.	2 Io comprai la cintura secondo il comando di Jahvè e me la posi sui fianchi.
3 And the word of the LORD came to me a second time,	3 Ora la parola di Jahvè mi fu rivolta una seconda volta:
4 "Take the waistcloth which you have bought, which is upon your loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock."	4 «Prendi la cintura che porti sui fianchi, levati e va’ presso l’Eufrate, nascondila nella fessura di una pietra».
5 So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.	5 Io andai e la nascosi presso l’Eufrate, come mi aveva comandato Jahvè.
6 And after many days the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the waistcloth which I commanded you to hide there."	6 Ora, dopo molti giorni, Jahvè mi disse: «Levati, va’ all’Eufrate, prendi di là la cintura che ti avevo comandato di nascondere ».
7 Then I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and I took the waistcloth from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the waistcloth was spoiled; it was good for nothing.	7 Io andai presso l’Eufrate, cercai e presi la cintura dal luogo dove l’avevo nascosta; ed ecco, la cintura era consunta, non era più buona a nulla.
8 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	8 Allora mi fu rivolta la parola di Jahvè:
9 "Thus says the LORD: Even so will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.	9 «Così dice Jahvè: “In questa maniera consumerò la grande gloria di Giuda e di Gerusalemme.
10 This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who stubbornly follow their own heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be like this waistcloth, which is good for nothing.	10 Questo popolo malvagio, che rifiuta di ascoltare le mie parole, cammina secondo la caparbietà del suo cuore e segue altri dèi per servirli e per adorarli, diventi come questa cintura, che non è più buona a nulla.
11 For as the waistcloth clings to the loins of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, says the LORD, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.	11 Poiché, come questa cintura aderisce ai fianchi dell’uomo, così io volli che aderisse a me tutta la casa di Israele e tutta la casa di Giuda — oracolo di Jahvè — perché fossero mio popolo, mia fama, mia lode e mia gloria, ma non mi ascoltarono”».
12 "You shall speak to them this word: 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, "Every jar shall be filled with wine."' And they will say to you, 'Do we not indeed know that every jar will be filled with wine?'	12 Ora, tu riferirai a questo popolo: «Così dice Jahvè Dio di Israele: “Ogni boccale va riempito di vino”. Se essi ti diranno: “Forse non sappiamo che ogni boccale sarà riempito di vino?”
13 Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will fill with drunkenness all the inhabitants of this land: the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	13 tu dirai loro: “Così dice Jahvè: Ecco io ubriacherò tutti gli abitanti di questo paese, i re che siedono sul trono di David, i sacerdoti, i profeti e tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
14 And I will dash them one against another, fathers and sons together, says the LORD. I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.'"	14 Frantumerò gli uni contro gli altri i padri e i figli insieme — oracolo di Jahvè —; non avrò pietà, non li risparmierò né userò misericordia nel distruggerli”».
15 Hear and give ear; be not proud, for the LORD has spoken.	15 Ascoltate e porgete orecchio, non insuperbitevi, perché Jahvè parla.
16 Give glory to the LORD your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the twilight mountains, and while you look for light he turns it into gloom and makes it deep darkness.	16 Date gloria a Jahvè vostro Dio, prima che venga l’oscurità e prima che inciampino i vostri piedi sui monti, al tempo del crepuscolo. Voi aspettate la luce: egli stende le tenebre e la trasforma in una densa oscurità!
17 But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock has been taken captive.	17 Se non ascolterete ciò, piangerà di nascosto la mia anima dinanzi a tale superbia; il mio occhio si scioglierà in lacrime, perché sarà deportato il gregge di Jahvè.
18 Say to the king and the queen mother: "Take a lowly seat, for your beautiful crown has come down from your head."	18 Dite al re e alla signora: «Sedete giù in basso, poiché è caduta dalle vostre teste la corona della vostra magnificenza».
19 The cities of the Negeb are shut up, with none to open them; all Judah is taken into exile, wholly taken into exile.	19 Le città del sud sono bloccate, né c’è chi le liberi; Tutto Giuda è stato deportato con una deportazione totale.
20 "Lift up your eyes and see those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful flock?	20 Alza gli occhi e osserva coloro che vengono dal nord. Dov’è il gregge che ti è stato dato, le tue pecore magnifiche?
21 What will you say when they set as head over you those whom you yourself have taught to be friends to you? Will not pangs take hold of you, like those of a woman in travail?	21 Che cosa dirai quando egli porrà sopra di te come guide coloro che tu stessa hai abituato a essere tuoi amici? Forse le doglie non coglieranno te come una partoriente?
22 And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things come upon me?' it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up, and you suffer violence.	22 Qualora dicessi in cuor tuo: «Perché mi sopraggiungono tali cose?» Per l’enormità delle tue iniquità sono stati scoperti i tuoi lembi, sono state oltraggiate le tue calcagna.
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then also you can do good who are accustomed to do evil.	23 Muta forse un moro la pelle e un leopardo le strisce? Allora potreste fare il bene anche voi che siete abituati al male.
24 I will scatter you like chaff driven by the wind from the desert.	24 Perciò vi disperderò come stoppia portata dal vento del deserto.
25 This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, says the LORD, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.	25 Questa è la tua sorte, la parte che ti è destinata da me. Oracolo di Jahvè. Perché mi hai dimenticato e hai confidato nella menzogna.
26 I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen.	26 Io pure rovescerò i tuoi lembi sul tuo volto, così si vedrà la tua vergogna,
27 I have seen your abominations, your adulteries and neighings, your lewd harlotries, on the hills in the field. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will it be before you are made clean?"	27 i tuoi adultèri e i tuoi nitriti, l’ignominia della tua prostituzione! Sui luoghi elevati e nei piani ho visto i tuoi orrori. Guai a te, Gerusalemme, perché non ti purifichi! Per quanto tempo ancora?
