Jeremiah 13

1 Thus said the LORD to me, "Go and buy a linen waistcloth, and put it on your loins, and do not dip it in water."	1 Ainsi me parla Yahvé: "Va t'acheter une ceinture de lin et mets-la sur tes reins. Mais ne la trempepas dans l'eau."
2 So I bought a waistcloth according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.	2 J'achetai une ceinture, selon l'ordre de Yahvé, et je la mis sur mes reins.
3 And the word of the LORD came to me a second time,	3 Une deuxième fois, la parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
4 "Take the waistcloth which you have bought, which is upon your loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock."	4 "Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée et que tu portes sur les reins. Lève-toi, va à l'Euphrate etcache-la dans la fente d'un rocher."
5 So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.	5 J'allai donc la cacher vers l'Euphrate comme Yahvé me l'avait ordonné.
6 And after many days the LORD said to me, "Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the waistcloth which I commanded you to hide there."	6 Bien des jours s'étaient écoulés, quand Yahvé me dit: "Lève-toi, va à l'Euphrate et reprends-y laceinture que je t'avais ordonné d'y cacher."
7 Then I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and I took the waistcloth from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the waistcloth was spoiled; it was good for nothing.	7 J'allai à l'Euphrate, je cherchai et je retirai la ceinture du lieu où je l'avais cachée. Et voici qu'elleétait détruite, inutilisable.
8 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	8 Alors la parole de Yahvé me fut adressée en ces termes:
9 "Thus says the LORD: Even so will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.	9 "Ainsi parle Yahvé. C'est ainsi que je détruirai l'orgueil de Juda, l'immense orgueil de Jérusalem.
10 This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who stubbornly follow their own heart and have gone after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be like this waistcloth, which is good for nothing.	10 Ce peuple mauvais, ces gens qui refusent d'écouter mes paroles, qui suivent l'obstination de leurcoeur et courent après d'autres dieux pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux - ce peuple deviendra commecette ceinture, inutilisable.
11 For as the waistcloth clings to the loins of a man, so I made the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah cling to me, says the LORD, that they might be for me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory, but they would not listen.	11 Car, de même qu'une ceinture s'attache aux reins d'un homme, ainsi m'étais-je attaché toute lamaison d'Israël, toute la maison de Juda - oracle de Yahvé - pour qu'elles soient mon peuple, mon renom, monhonneur et ma splendeur. Mais elles n'ont pas écouté."
12 "You shall speak to them this word: 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, "Every jar shall be filled with wine."' And they will say to you, 'Do we not indeed know that every jar will be filled with wine?'	12 Tu leur diras aussi cette parole: Ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël. "Toute cruche peut se remplirde vin!" Et s'ils te répondent: "Ne savons-nous pas que toute cruche peut se remplir de vin?"
13 Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will fill with drunkenness all the inhabitants of this land: the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	13 Tu leur diras: "Ainsi parle Yahvé. Voici que je vais remplir d'ivresse tous les habitants de cepays, les rois qui occupent le trône de David, les prêtres et les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem.
14 And I will dash them one against another, fathers and sons together, says the LORD. I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.'"	14 Puis je les casserai l'un contre l'autre, pères et fils pêle-mêle - oracle de Yahvé. Sans pitié, sansmerci, sans m'attendrir, je les détruirai."
15 Hear and give ear; be not proud, for the LORD has spoken.	15 Ecoutez, tendez l'oreille, plus d'orgueil: c'est Yahvé qui parle!
16 Give glory to the LORD your God before he brings darkness, before your feet stumble on the twilight mountains, and while you look for light he turns it into gloom and makes it deep darkness.	16 Rendez gloire à Yahvé votre Dieu, avant que ne viennent les ténèbres, avant que vos pieds ne seheurtent aux montagnes de la nuit. Vous comptez sur la lumière, mais il la réduira en obscurité, il la changera enombre épaisse.
17 But if you will not listen, my soul will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock has been taken captive.	17 Si vous n'écoutez pas cet avertissement, je pleurerai en secret pour votre orgueil; mes yeuxlaisseront couler des larmes, ils verseront des larmes, car le troupeau de Yahvé part en captivité.
18 Say to the king and the queen mother: "Take a lowly seat, for your beautiful crown has come down from your head."	18 Dis au roi et à la reine-mère: Asseyez-vous bien bas, car elle est tombée de votre tête, votrecouronne de splendeur.
19 The cities of the Negeb are shut up, with none to open them; all Judah is taken into exile, wholly taken into exile.	19 Les villes du Négeb sont bloquées: personne n'y donne accès! Tout Juda est déporté, déporté toutentier.
20 "Lift up your eyes and see those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful flock?	20 Lève les yeux et regarde ceux qui arrivent du Nord. Où est-il le troupeau qui te fut confié, lesbrebis qui faisaient ta splendeur?
21 What will you say when they set as head over you those whom you yourself have taught to be friends to you? Will not pangs take hold of you, like those of a woman in travail?	21 Que diras-tu quand ils viendront te châtier, toi qui les avais formés? Contre toi, en tête, viendrontles familiers; alors les douleurs ne vont-elles pas te saisir comme une femme en travail?
22 And if you say in your heart, 'Why have these things come upon me?' it is for the greatness of your iniquity that your skirts are lifted up, and you suffer violence.	22 Et si tu dis en ton coeur: Pourquoi de tels malheurs m'arrivent-ils? C'est pour l'immensité de tafaute qu'on t'a relevé les robes, qu'on t'a violentée.
23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then also you can do good who are accustomed to do evil.	23 Un Ethiopien peut-il changer de peau? Une panthère de pelage? Et vous, pouvez-vous bien agir,vous les habitués du mal?
24 I will scatter you like chaff driven by the wind from the desert.	24 Je vous disperserai donc comme paille légère au souffle du désert.
25 This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, says the LORD, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.	25 Tel est ton lot, la part qui t'est allouée. Cela vient de moi - oracle de Yahvé - puisque c'est moique tu as oublié en te confiant au Mensonge.
26 I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen.	26 Moi-même je remonte tes robes jusqu'à ton visage, pour qu'on voie ton ignominie.
27 I have seen your abominations, your adulteries and neighings, your lewd harlotries, on the hills in the field. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will it be before you are made clean?"	27 Oh! Tes adultères et tes cris de plaisir, ta honteuse prostitution! Sur les collines et dans lacampagne j'ai vu tes Horreurs. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem, qui restes impure! Combien de temps encore?
