1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy steadfast love; according to thy abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.	1 Dem Musikmeister; ein Psalm von David,
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!	2 als der Prophet Nathan zu ihm kam, nachdem er sich mit Bathseba vergangen hatte (2.Sam 12).
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.	3 Sei mir gnädig, o Gott, nach deiner Güte!Nach deinem großen Erbarmen tilge meine Vergehen!
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in thy sight, so that thou art justified in thy sentence and blameless in thy judgment.	4 Wasche völlig mir ab meine Schuldund mache mich rein von meiner Missetat!
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.	5 Ach, ich erkenne meine Vergehen wohl,und meine Missetat steht mir immerdar vor Augen!
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.	6 Gegen dich allein hab’ ich gesündigtund habe getan, was böse ist in deinen Augen,auf daß du recht behältst mit deinen Urteilssprüchenund rein dastehst mit deinem Richten.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.	7 Ach, in Schuld bin ich geboren (oder: gezeugt),und in Sünde hat meine Mutter mich empfangen.
8 Fill me with joy and gladness; let the bones which thou hast broken rejoice.	8 Du hast Gefallen an Wahrheit (= Aufrichtigkeit) im innersten Herzen,und im Verborg’nen läßt du mich Weisheit erkennen.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.	9 Entsündige mich mit Ysop (vgl. 2.Mose 12,22), daß ich rein werde,wasche mich, daß ich weißer werde als Schnee.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.	10 Laß mich (wieder) Freude und Wonne empfinden,daß die Glieder frohlocken, die du zerschlagen.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me.	11 Verhülle dein Antlitz vor meinen Sündenund tilge alle meine Missetaten!
12 Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.	12 Schaffe mir, Gott, ein reines Herzund stell’ einen neuen, festen Geist in meinem Innern her!
13 Then I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners will return to thee.	13 Verwirf mich nicht von deinem Angesichtund nimm deinen heiligen Geist nicht weg von mir!
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of thy deliverance.	14 Gib, daß ich deiner Hilfe (oder: deines Heils) mich wieder freue,und rüste mich aus mit einem willigen Geist!
15 O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.	15 Dann will ich die Übertreter deine Wege lehren,und die Missetäter sollen zu dir sich bekehren.
16 For thou hast no delight in sacrifice; were I to give a burnt offering, thou wouldst not be pleased.	16 Errette mich von Blutschuld, o Gott, du Gott meines Heils,damit meine Zunge deine Gerechtigkeit jubelnd preise!
17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.	17 O Allherr, tu mir die Lippen auf,damit mein Mund deinen Ruhm verkünde!
18 Do good to Zion in thy good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,	18 Denn an Schlachtopfern hast du kein Gefallen,und brächte ich Brandopfer dar: du möchtest sie nicht.
19 then wilt thou delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on thy altar.	19 Opfer, die Gott gefallen, sind ein zerbrochner Geist;ein zerbrochnes und zerschlagnes Herzwirst du, o Gott, nicht verschmähen. –
	20 Tu doch Gutes an Zion nach deiner Gnade:baue Jerusalems Mauern wieder auf!
	21 Dann wirst du auch Wohlgefallen haben an richtigen Opfern,an Brand- und Ganzopfern;dann wird man Farren opfern auf deinem Altar.
