Psalms 51

1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy steadfast love; according to thy abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.	1 Pour la fin, psaume de David,
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!	2 lorsque le prophète Nathan vint le trouver après qu'il eut été avec Bethsabée.
3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.	3 Ayez pitié de moi, ô Dieu, * selon Votre grande miséricorde; et selon la multitude de Vos bontés, * effacez mon iniquité.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done that which is evil in thy sight, so that thou art justified in thy sentence and blameless in thy judgment.	4 Lavez-moi de plus en plus de mon iniquité, * et purifiez-moi de mon péché.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.	5 Car je connais mon iniquité, * et mon péché est toujours devant moi.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward being; therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.	6 J'ai péché contre Vous seul, et j'ai fait ce qui est mal à Vos yeux, * afin que Vous soyez trouvé juste dans Vos paroles, et victorieux lorsqu'on Vous jugera.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.	7 Car j'ai été conçu dans l'iniquité, * et ma mère m'a conçu dans le péché.
8 Fill me with joy and gladness; let the bones which thou hast broken rejoice.	8 Car Vous avez aimé la vérité; * Vous m'avez révélé les secrets et les mystères de Votre sagesse.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.	9 Vous m'arroserez avec l'hysope, et je serai purifié; * Vous me laverez, et je deviendrai plus blanc que la neige.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.	10 Vous me ferez entendre une parole de joie et de bonheur, * et mes os, qui sont brisés et humiliés, tressailliront d'allégresse.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy holy Spirit from me.	11 Détournez Votre face de mes péchés, * et effacez toutes mes iniquités.
12 Restore to me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.	12 O Dieu, créez en moi un coeur pur, * et renouvelez un esprit droit dans mon sein.
13 Then I will teach transgressors thy ways, and sinners will return to thee.	13 Ne me rejetez pas de devant Votre face, * et ne retirez pas de moi Votre Esprit-Saint.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of thy deliverance.	14 Rendez-moi la joie de Votre salut, * et affermissez-moi par un esprit généreux.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips, and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.	15 J'enseignerai Vos voies aux méchants, * et les impies se convertiront à Vous.
16 For thou hast no delight in sacrifice; were I to give a burnt offering, thou wouldst not be pleased.	16 Délivrez-moi du sang que j'ai versé, ô Dieu, Dieu de mon salut, * et ma langue célébrera avec joie Votre justice.
17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.	17 Seigneur, Vous ouvrirez mes lèvres, * et ma bouche publiera Vos louanges.
18 Do good to Zion in thy good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,	18 Car si Vous aviez désiré un sacrifice, je Vous l'aurais offert; * mais Vous ne prenez pas plaisir aux holocaustes.
19 then wilt thou delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on thy altar.	19 le sacrifice digne de Dieu, c'est un esprit brisé; * Vous ne mépriserez pas, ô Dieu, un coeur contrit et humilié.
	20 Seigneur, traitez favorablement Sion dans Votre bonté, * afin que les murs de Jérusalem soient bâtis.
	21 Alors Vous agréerez un sacrifice de justice, les oblations et les holocaustes; * alors on offrira de jeunes taureaux sur Votre autel.
