1 "Call now; is there any one who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?	1 Chama, pois, (algum defensor), se é que há alguém que te responda. Para qual dos santos te voltaras?
2 Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple.	2 Verdadeiramente a ira mata o insensato, e a inveja mata o louco.
3 I have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling.	3 Eu vi o (pecador) insensato com profundas raízes, mas, sìbitamente, foi destruída a sua morada.
4 His sons are far from safety, they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them.	4 Longe estão os seus filhos da salvação (ou felicidade), são pisados à porta (da cidade), e não há quem os livre.
5 His harvest the hungry eat, and he takes it even out of thorns; and the thirsty pant after his wealth.	5 A sua messe devora-a o faminto, salta sobre os espinhos para a arrebatar, e os sequiosos bebem as suas riquezas.
6 For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble sprout from the ground;	6 A desgraça não nasce do pó, e a dor não brota da terra.
7 but man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward.	7 O homem nasceu para sofrer, como os filhos da chama (faúlhas) paravoar.
8 "As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause;	8 Por mim, rogarei ao Senhor, dirigirei a minha oração a Deus,
9 who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number:	9 que faz coisas grandes e impenetráveis maravilhas incontáveis,
10 he gives rain upon the earth and sends waters upon the fields;	10 que derrama a chuva sobre a face da terra, e tudo rega com as águas;
11 he sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.	11 que exalta os humildes, e aos tristes alenta com prosperidades;
12 He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.	12 que dissipa os pensamentos dos malignos, para que as suas mãos não possam acabar o que tinham começado;
13 He takes the wise in their own craftiness; and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end.	13 que apanha os astutos na sua própria astúcia, e que dissipa o desígnio dos maus.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at noonday as in the night.	14 De dia se encontram em trevas, e ao meio-dia andam às apalpadelas como de noite.
15 But he saves the fatherless from their mouth, the needy from the hand of the mighty.	15 Ele salva o desvalido da espada da sua boca, e o pobre da mão do (homem) poderoso.
16 So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.	16 Volta a esperança ao indigente, e a iniquidade fecha a sua boca.
17 "Behold, happy is the man whom God reproves; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.	17 Bem-aventurado o homem a quem Deus corrige. Não desprezes, pois, a correção do Omnipotente,
18 For he wounds, but he binds up; he smites, but his hands heal.	18 porque ele fere e sara; dá o golpe e as suas mãos curam.
19 He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven there shall no evil touch you.	19 Seis... à sétima... Gradação usada para indicar um grande número.
20 In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.	20 Seis vezes te livrará da angústia, e à sétima o mal não te tocará.
21 You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes.	21 No tempo da fome ele te salvará da morte, e no tempo da guerra do poder da espada.
22 At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the beasts of the earth.	22 Estarás a coberto do açoute da (má) língua. e não temerás a calamidade quando chegar.
23 For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.	23 Da desolação e da fome te rirás, e não temerás as feras da terra.
24 You shall know that your tent is safe, and you shall inspect your fold and miss nothing.	24 Até farás aliança com as pedras dos campos, e as feras da terra te serão pacificas.
25 You shall know also that your descendants shall be many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.	25 Verás reinar a paz na tua casa, e, visitando as tuas terras, nada te verás faltar.
26 You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, as a shock of grain comes up to the threshing floor in its season.	26 Verás também multiplicar-se a tua descendência, crescer a tua posteridade como a erva dos campos.
27 Lo, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good."	27 Entrarás, na maturidade, no sepulcro, como um feixe de trigo colhido a seu tempo.
	28 Olha que assim é isto que nós observámos; escuta-o e tira dele proveito.
