1 "Call now; is there any one who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?	1 Chiama adunque, se v'ha alcuno, che ti risponda, e ricorri ad alcuno dei santi.
2 Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple.	2 Veramente lo stolto è messo a morte dall'ira, e il piccolo è ucciso dall'invidia.
3 I have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling.	3 Vidi io un insensato aver messe sode radici, e subito maledissi la sua appariscenza.
4 His sons are far from safety, they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them.	4 I suoi figliuoli saran lontani dalla salute, e saran calpestati alla porta, e non troveranno liberatore.
5 His harvest the hungry eat, and he takes it even out of thorns; and the thirsty pant after his wealth.	5 Le sue messi saran divorate da un affamato, ed ei sarà condotto via dagli armati, e uomini assetati sorbiranno le sue ricchezze.
6 For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble sprout from the ground;	6 Nissuna cosa si fa sulla terra senza cagione, e gli affanni non germogliano dal terreno.
7 but man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward.	7 Nasce l'uomo ai travagli, come al volo gli uccelli.
8 "As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause;	8 Per la qual cosa io pregherò il Signore, e a lui rivolgerò le mie parole,
9 who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number:	9 Il quale fa cose grandi, e imperscrutabili, e mirabili senza numero:
10 he gives rain upon the earth and sends waters upon the fields;	10 Che manda la pioggia sulla faccia della terra, e tutte le cose innaffia colle acque,
11 he sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.	11 Che in alto pone que' che erano al basso; e gli afflitti rincora colla salute:
12 He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.	12 Che dissipa le brame de' maligni, aftinché non conducano a fine le mani loro quel che aveano cominciato:
13 He takes the wise in their own craftiness; and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end.	13 Che nella loro astuzia impiglia i sapienti, e sperde i disegni de' cattivi:
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at noonday as in the night.	14 In pieno giorno si troveran nelle tenebre, e nel meriggio andran tentoni come di notte.
15 But he saves the fatherless from their mouth, the needy from the hand of the mighty.	15 Ma egli salverà il meschino dalla spada della lor bocca, e il povero dalle mani dell'uom violento.
16 So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.	16 E il meschino avrà speranza, o l'iniquità chiuderà la sua bocca.
17 "Behold, happy is the man whom God reproves; therefore despise not the chastening of the Almighty.	17 Beato l'uomo, cui Dio corregge: non disprezzar tu adunque la riprensione del Signore:
18 For he wounds, but he binds up; he smites, but his hands heal.	18 Perocché egli ferisce, e fascia la piaga, percuote, e medica di sua mano.
19 He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven there shall no evil touch you.	19 Alle sei tribolazioni egli ti libererà, e alla settima il male non ti toccherà.
20 In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.	20 Egli nella fame ti salverà dalla morte, e dalla spada in tempo di guerra.
21 You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes.	21 Sarai messo in sicuro dal flagello di lingua rea, e quando venga calamità, non ne avrai paura.
22 At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the beasts of the earth.	22 Nelle desolazioni, e nelle carestie tu riderai, e non temerai le fiere selvagge.
23 For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.	23 Le pietre stesse de' campi ti averanno rispetto, e le bestie selvagge mariteranno pace con te.
24 You shall know that your tent is safe, and you shall inspect your fold and miss nothing.	24 E vedrai regnar la pace nel tuo padiglione, e nel governar la tua bella casa non commetterai mancamento.
25 You shall know also that your descendants shall be many, and your offspring as the grass of the earth.	25 Vedrai eziandìo come numerosa sarà la tua stirpe, e la tua discendenza come l'erba dei campi.
26 You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, as a shock of grain comes up to the threshing floor in its season.	26 Pieno di anni entrerai nel sepolcro, come si rinchiude a suo tempo una massa di grano.
27 Lo, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good."	27 Or quello che noi abbiamo esposto è così: tu che hai ascoltato, ripensavi.
