1 After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him.	1 Dopo di ciò il re Assuero innalzò Aman figliuolo di Amadathi, il quale era della stirpe di Agag; e lo fece sedere sopra tutti i principi, che avea d'intorno.
2 And all the king's servants who were at the king's gate bowed down and did obeisance to Haman; for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow down or do obeisance.	2 E tutti i servi del re, che frequentavano le porte del palazzo, piegavano le ginocchia, e adoravano Aman; perocché cosi avea comandato l'Imperadore: il solo Mardocheo non piegava le ginocchia, e non lo adorava.
3 Then the king's servants who were at the king's gate said to Mordecai, "Why do you transgress the king's command?"	3 E i servi del re, che presedevano alle porte del palazzo, gli dissero: Perchè non osservi tu l'ordine del re, come tutti gli altri?
4 And when they spoke to him day after day and he would not listen to them, they told Haman, in order to see whether Mordecai's words would avail; for he had told them that he was a Jew.	4 E avendo quelli detto ciò a lui più volte, e non volendo egli fare a modo loro, ne diedero parte ad Aman, desiderosi di far prova se quegli restasse sempre ne' medesimi sentimenti; perocché egli avea detto, se esser Giudeo.
5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or do obeisance to him, Haman was filled with fury.	5 Udito ciò Aman, e conosciuto avendo alla prova, che Mardocheo non piegava a lui le ginocchia, e non lo adorava, ne concepì grande sdegno:
6 But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.	6 E gli parve un nulla il punire il solo Mardocheo; perocché avea saputo, com'egli era Giudeo di nazione; e volle piuttosto tutta sterminare la moltitudine de' Giudei, che erano nel regno di Assuero.
7 In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is the lot, before Haman day after day; and they cast it month after month till the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.	7 Nel primo mese chiamato Nisan, l'anno duodecimo del regno di Assuero si gettarono in casa di Aman le sorti (dette in Ebreo Phur) nell'urna, per sapere in qual giorno, e in qual mese dovesse essere trucidata la nazione de' Giudei; e uscì fuori il mese duodecimo chiamato Adar.
8 Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, "There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from those of every other people, and they do not keep the king's laws, so that it is not for the king's profit to tolerate them.	8 Or Aman disse al re Assuero: Havvi un popolo disperso per tutte le provincie del tuo regno di uomini segregati tra' loro, i quali han leggi, e ceremonie inusitate, e oltre a ciò sprezzano gli ordini del re: e tu sai benissimo, che non torna bene pel tuo regno il lasciargli insolentire.
9 If it please the king, let it be decreed that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who have charge of the king's business, that they may put it into the king's treasuries."	9 Se così ti piace, da ordine, ch'ei periscano, e io peserò dieci mila talenti ai tesorieri della tua casa.
10 So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews.	10 Allora il re si tolse dal dito l'anello, di cui solea servirsi, e lo dette ad Aman figliuolo di Amadathi della stirpe di Agag, nemico de' Giudei,
11 And the king said to Haman, "The money is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you."	11 E gli disse L'argento, che esibisci, sia tuo di quella gente quel, che ti pare,
12 Then the king's secretaries were summoned on the thirteenth day of the first month, and an edict, according to all that Haman commanded, was written to the king's satraps and to the governors over all the provinces and to the princes of all the peoples, to every province in its own script and every people in its own language; it was written in the name of King Ahasuerus and sealed with the king's ring.	12 E furon chiamati i segretarj del re, il primo mese detto Nisan ai tredici dello stesso mese, e secondo l'ordine dato da Aman fu scritto questo a nome di Assuero a tutti i satrapi del re, e ai giudici delle provincie, e delle diverse nazioni in varj linguaggi, perchè potesse leggersi, e intendersi da ciascuna nazione; e la lettera fu sigillata col sigillo reale,
13 Letters were sent by couriers to all the king's provinces, to destroy, to slay, and to annihilate all Jews, young and old, women and children, in one day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods.	13 E fu spedita in tutte le provincie per mezzo de corrieri del re, affinchè uccidessero, e sterminassero tutti i Giudei ragazzi, e vecchi, fanciulli, e donne, in uno stesso giorno, viene a dire, ai tredici del duodecimo mese detto Adar, e che dessero il sacco a tutti i loro beni.
14 A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province by proclamation to all the peoples to be ready for that day.	14 E tale fu la sostanza della lettera, affinchè tutte le provincie ne fossero informate, e si preparassero pel giorno stabilito.
15 The couriers went in haste by order of the king, and the decree was issued in Susa the capital. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Susa was perplexed.	15 Andavano in fretta i corrieri ad eseguire il comando reale: e subito fu affìsso in Susa l'editto in tempo, che il re, e Aman erano in solenne convito, e mentre tutti i Giudei, che stavano in quella città, erano in pianti.
