1 King Ahasuerus laid tribute on the land and on the coastlands of the sea.	1 Il re Assuero impose un tributo sulla terra e sulle isole del mare.
2 And all the acts of his power and might, and the full account of the high honor of Mordecai, to which the king advanced him, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?	2 Ma tutte le sue gesta potenti e valorose e la relazione precisa dell’alto grado a cui Mardocheo fu innalzato dal re, non sono forse scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re della Media e della Persia?
3 For Mordecai the Jew was next in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brethren, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.	3 Mardocheo il Giudeo era infatti il secondo dopo il re Assuero, ammirato dai Giudei, benvoluto da una moltitudine di suoi fratelli: cercava il bene del suo popolo e si interessava della felicità dei suoi discendenti. Allora Mardocheo esclamò: «Per opera di Dio è avvenuto ciò! Mi ricordo infatti del sogno che ebbi in merito a questi avvenimenti; nessun particolare ne è stato tralasciato: la piccola sorgente che divenne fiume e la luce che sorse e il sole e l’acqua abbondante. Ester, che il re sposò e costituì regina, è il fiume; i due draghi siamo io e Aman. Le nazioni sono coloro che si coalizzarono per sterminare il nome dei Giudei. La mia nazione è Israele che innalzò il grido a Dio e fu salvata. Dio salvò il suo popolo; Dio ci liberò da tutte queste sciagure e operò miracoli e prodigi strepitosi che non si sono verificati tra i Gentili. Perciò egli dispose di due sorti, una per il popolo di Dio, l’altra per tutti i Gentili; queste due sorti si sono adempiute nell’ora, nel momento e nel giorno stabiliti dal disegno di Dio e fra tutti i Gentili. Così Dio si ricordò del suo popolo e si pronunciò in favore della giustizia della sua eredità. Dunque questi giorni del mese di Adar, il quattordici e il quindici del mese, saranno per essi di adunanza, di festa e di gioia innanzi a Dio nel corso delle generazioni, per sempre in seno al suo popolo Israele».
4 And Mordecai said, "These things have come from God.	4 L’anno quarto del regno di Tolomeo e di Cleopatra, Dositeo, che affermava di essere sacerdote e Levita, e Tolomeo suo figlio portarono la presente relazione circa i Purim: essi dicevano che questa era la vera e che l’aveva interpretata Lisimaco, figlio di Tolomeo, uno dei residenti di Gerusalemme.
5 For I remember the dream that I had concerning these matters, and none of them has failed to be fulfilled.
6 The tiny spring which became a river, and there was light and the sun and abundant water the river is Esther, whom the king married and made queen.
7 The two dragons are Haman and myself.
8 The nations are those that gathered to destroy the name of the Jews.
9 And my nation, this is Israel, who cried out to God and were saved. The Lord has saved his people; the Lord has delivered us from all these evils; God has done great signs and wonders, which have not occurred among the nations.
10 For this purpose he made two lots, one for the people of God and one for all the nations.
11 And these two lots came to the hour and moment and day of decision before God and among all the nations.
12 And God remembered his people and vindicated his inheritance.
13 So they will observe these days in the month of Adar, on the fourteenth and fifteenth of that month, with an assembly and joy and gladness before God, from generation to generation for ever among his people Israel."
