After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.1 Cuando Samuel se hizo anciano, nombró a sus hijos jueces de Israel.
And he defeated Moab, and measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground; two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.2 Su hijo primogénito se llamaba Joel y el segundo, Abías. Ejercieron de jueces en Berseba.
David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates.3 Ahora bien, sus hijos no siguieron sus caminos.
And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers; and David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left enough for a hundred chariots.4 Se reunieron todos los ancianos de Israel y fueron a Ramá, donde estaba Samuel.
And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew twenty-two thousand men of the Syrians.5 Le dijeron: «Tú eres ya un anciano y tus hijos no siguen tus caminos.
Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.6 A Samuel le pareció mal que hubieran dicho: «Danos un rey, para que nos gobierne». Y oró al Señor.
And David took the shields of gold which were carried by the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.7 El Señor dijo a Samuel: «Escucha la voz del pueblo en todo cuanto te digan.
When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer,9 Escucha, pues, su voz.
Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to greet him, and to congratulate him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him; for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze;10 Samuel transmitió todas las palabras del Señor al pueblo, que le había pedido un rey.
these also King David dedicated to the LORD, together with the silver and gold which he dedicated from all the nations he subdued,11 Samuel explicó: «Este es el derecho del rey que reinará sobre vosotros: se llevará a vuestros hijos para destinarlos a su carroza y a su caballería, y correrán delante de su carroza.
from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.12 Los destinará a ser jefes de mil o jefes de cincuenta, a arar su labrantío y segar su mies, a fabricar sus armas de guerra y los pertrechos de sus carros.
And David won a name for himself. When he returned, he slew eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.13 Tomará a vuestras hijas para perfumistas, cocineras y panaderas.
And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the LORD gave victory to David wherever he went.14 Se apoderará de vuestros mejores campos, viñas y olivares, para dárselos a sus servidores.
So David reigned over all Israel; and David administered justice and equity to all his people.15 Cobrará el diezmo de vuestros olivares y viñas, para dárselo a sus eunucos y servidores.
And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;16 Se llevará a vuestros mejores servidores, siervas y jóvenes, así como vuestros asnos, para emplearlos en sus trabajos.
and Zadok the son of Ahitub and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests; and Seraiah was secretary;17 Cobrará el diezmo de vuestro ganado menor, y vosotros os convertiréis en esclavos suyos.
and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were priests.18 Aquel día os quejaréis a causa del rey que os habéis escogido.
