Unto the end. For those who will be changed, with the inscription of a title, of David himself, for instruction:1 [For the choirmaster Tune: 'Do not destroy' Of David In a quiet voice When Saul sent men to watchDavid's house in order to have him killed] Rescue me from my enemies, my God, be my stronghold from myassailants,
when he set fire to Mesopotamia of Syria and Sobal, and Joab turned back and struck Idumea, in the valley of the salt pits, twelve thousand men.2 rescue me from evil-doers, from men of violence save me.
O God, you have rejected us, and you have ruined us. You became angry, and yet you have been merciful to us.3 Look at them, lurking to ambush me, violent men are attacking me, for no fault, no sin of mine,Yahweh,
You have moved the earth, and you have disturbed it. Heal its breaches, for it has been moved.4 for no guilt, they come running to take up position. Wake up, stand by me and keep watch,
You have revealed to your people difficulties. You have made us drink the wine of remorse.5 Yahweh, God of Sabaoth, God of Israel, rise up, to punish al the nations, show no mercy to all thesemalicious traitors.Pause
You have given a warning sign to those who fear you, so that they may flee from before the face of the bow, so that your beloved may be delivered.6 Back they come at nightfall, snarling like curs, prowling through the town.
Save me with your right hand, and hear me.7 Look how they rant in speech with swords on their lips, 'Who is there to hear us?'
God has spoken in his holy place: I will rejoice, and I will divide Shechem, and I will measure the steep valley of the tabernacles.8 For your part, Yahweh, you laugh at them, you make mockery of all nations.
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine. And Ephraim is the strength of my head. Judah is my king.9 My strength, I keep my eyes fixed on you. For my stronghold is God,
Moab is the cooking pot of my hope. Into Idumea, I will extend my shoe. To me, the foreigners have been made subject.10 the God who loves me faithfully is coming to meet me, God will let me feast my eyes on those who liein wait for me.
Who will lead me into the fortified city? Who will lead me all the way to Idumea?11 Do not annihilate them, or my people may forget; shake them in your power, bring them low, Lord, our shield.
Will not you, O God, who has rejected us? And will not you, O God, go out with our armies?12 Sin is in their mouths, sin on their lips, so let them be trapped in their pride for the curses and lies thatthey utter.
Grant us help from tribulation. For salvation from man is empty.13 Destroy them in your anger, destroy them til they are no more, and let it be known that God is Masterin Jacob and the whole wide world.Pause
In God, we will act virtuously. And those who trouble us, he will lead to nothing.14 Back they come at nightfal , snarling like curs, prowling through the town,
scavenging for something to eat, growling unless they have their fil .
And so I wil sing of your strength, in the morning acclaim your faithful love; you have been astronghold for me, a refuge when I was in trouble.
My strength, I wil make music for you, for my stronghold is God, the God who loves me faithful y.
