Unto the end. May you not destroy. Of David, with the inscription of a title, when he fled from Saul into a cave.1 For the director. According to Yonath elem rehoqim. A miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him at Gath.
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me. For my soul trusts in you. And I will hope in the shadow of your wings, until iniquity passes away.2 Have mercy on me, God, for I am treated harshly; attackers press me all the day.
I will cry out to God Most High, to God who has been kind to me.3 My foes treat me harshly all the day; yes, many are my attackers. O Most High,
He sent from heaven and freed me. He has surrendered into disgrace those who trampled me. God has sent his mercy and his truth.4 when I am afraid, in you I place my trust.
And he has rescued my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men: their teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue is a sharp sword.5 God, I praise your promise; in you I trust, I do not fear. What can mere flesh do to me?
Be exalted above the heavens, O God, and your glory above all the earth.6 All the day they foil my plans; their every thought is of evil against me.
They prepared a snare for my feet, and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, yet they have fallen into it.7 They hide together in ambush; they watch my every step; they lie in wait for my life.
My heart is prepared, O God, my heart is prepared. I will sing, and I will compose a psalm.8 They are evil; watch them, God! Cast the nations down in your anger!
Rise up, my glory. Rise up, psaltery and harp. I will arise in early morning.9 My wanderings you have noted; are my tears not stored in your vial, recorded in your book?
I will confess to you, O Lord, among the peoples. I will compose a psalm to you among the nations.10 My foes turn back when I call on you. This I know: God is on my side.
For your mercy has been magnified, even to the heavens, and your truth, even to the clouds.11 God, I praise your promise;
Be exalted above the heavens, O God, and your glory above all the earth.12 in you I trust, I do not fear. What can mere mortals do to me?
I have made vows to you, God; with offerings I will fulfill them,
Once you have snatched me from death, kept my feet from stumbling, That I may walk before God in the light of the living.
