1 Therefore call, if there are any who will respond to you, and turn to one or another of the saints.	1 Grida pure! Ti risponderà forse qualcuno? E a chi fra i santi ti rivolgerai?
2 Truly, anger condemns the foolish to death, and envy kills the petty.	2 Poiché la collera uccide lo stolto e l’invidia fa morire lo sciocco.
3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I have cursed his excellence without hesitation.	3 Ho visto lo stolto mettere radici e subito ho dichiarato maledetta la sua dimora.
4 His sons will be far from prosperity and will be crushed at the gate, and there will be none who can rescue them.	4 I suoi figli non sono mai al sicuro, e in tribunale sono oppressi, senza difensore;
5 Their harvest, the starving will eat. The armed man will rob him, and the thirsty will drink his resources.	5 l’affamato ne divora la messe, anche se ridotta a spine, la porterà via e gente assetata agognerà le sue sostanze.
6 Nothing on earth occurs without a reason, and sorrow does not rise from the earth.	6 Non esce certo dal suolo la sventura né germoglia dalla terra il dolore,
7 Man is born to labor, and the bird to fly.	7 ma è l’uomo che genera pene, come le scintille volano in alto.
8 Therefore, because of this, I will beg the Lord, and place my eloquence before God.	8 Io, invece, mi rivolgerei a Dio e a Dio esporrei la mia causa:
9 He does great and unfathomable and miraculous things without number.	9 a lui, che fa cose tanto grandi da non potersi indagare, meraviglie da non potersi contare,
10 He gives rain over the face of the earth and irrigates all things with the waters.	10 che dà la pioggia alla terra e manda l’acqua sulle campagne.
11 He places the humble on high and encourages the grieving towards health.	11 Egli esalta gli umili e solleva a prosperità gli afflitti;
12 He dispels the thoughts of the spiteful, lest their hands be able to complete what they had begun.	12 è lui che rende vani i pensieri degli scaltri, perché le loro mani non abbiano successo.
13 He catches the wise in their cleverness and dissipates the counsel of the perverse.	13 Egli sorprende i saccenti nella loro astuzia e fa crollare il progetto degli scaltri.
14 They will encounter darkness in the daytime, and they will grope at midday just as in the night.	14 Di giorno incappano nel buio, in pieno sole brancolano come di notte.
15 Thereafter, he will act to save the needy from the sword of their mouth, and the poor from the hand of the violent.	15 Egli invece salva il povero dalla spada della loro bocca e dalla mano del violento.
16 And there will be hope for those in need, for iniquity will diminish its speech.	16 C’è speranza per il misero, ma chi fa l’ingiustizia deve chiudere la bocca.
17 Blessed is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not reject the chastisement of the Lord.	17 Perciò, beato l’uomo che è corretto da Dio: non sdegnare la correzione dell’Onnipotente,
18 For he wounds and he cures; he strikes and his hands will heal.	18 perché egli ferisce e fascia la piaga, colpisce e la sua mano risana.
19 He will deliver you into six tribulations, and in the seventh, evil will not touch you.	19 Da sei tribolazioni ti libererà e alla settima il male non ti toccherà;
20 During famine, he will rescue you from death, and during war, from the hand of the sword.	20 nella carestia ti libererà dalla morte e in guerra dal colpo della spada,
21 You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, and you will not fear calamity when it arrives.	21 sarai al riparo dal flagello della lingua, né temerai quando giunge la rovina.
22 In desolation and in famine, you will laugh, and you will not dread the beasts of the earth.	22 Della rovina e della fame riderai né temerai le bestie selvatiche;
23 For you are in harmony with the stones of the land, and the beasts of the earth will make peace with you.	23 con le pietre del campo avrai un patto e le bestie selvatiche saranno in pace con te.
24 And you will know that your home has peace, and, concerning your appearance, you will not sin.	24 Vedrai che sarà prospera la tua tenda, visiterai la tua proprietà e non sarai deluso.
25 Likewise, you will know that your offspring will be manifold and your progeny will be like the grass of the earth.	25 Vedrai che sarà numerosa la tua prole, i tuoi rampolli come l’erba dei prati.
26 You will enter the grave with abundance, just as a crop of wheat is gathered in its time.	26 Te ne andrai alla tomba in piena maturità, come un covone raccolto a suo tempo.
27 Behold, this is just as we have found it, which you have heard; walk it through your mind.	27 Ecco, questo l’abbiamo studiato a fondo, ed è vero. Ascoltalo e imparalo per il tuo bene».
