Continuing in a similar manner, Eliu had this to say:1 Elihú siguió diciendo:
Bear with me for a little while and I will show you; for I have still more to say in favor of God.2 «Sé paciente, que acabaré convenciéndote; | que quedan argumentos en favor de Dios.
I will review my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker to be just.3 Espigaré mi saber en el pasado, | demostraré que es justo mi Creador.
For truly my words are without any falsehood and perfect knowledge will be proven to you.4 Mis palabras no son falsas, desde luego; | ante ti tienes ciencia consumada.
God does not abandon the powerful, for he himself is also powerful.5 Dios es poderoso y no vacila; | poderoso y de firmes decisiones.
But he does not save the impious, though he grants judgment to the poor.6 No permite vivir al malvado, | sino que hace justicia al afligido;
He will not take his eyes away from the just, and he continually establishes kings on their throne, and they are exalted.7 no aparta sus ojos del justo: | los pone junto a reyes, en sus tronos, | los entroniza y exalta para siempre.
And, if they are in captivity, or are bound with the chains of poverty,8 Pero si él los sujeta con cadenas | y los ata con cuerdas de aflicción,
he will reveal to them their works, as well as their sinfulness, in that they were violent.9 es para denunciar sus acciones, | sus delitos nacidos del orgullo;
Likewise, he will open their ears to his correction, and he will speak to them, so that they may return from iniquity.10 les hace escuchar su advertencia, | les emplaza a dejar el pecado.
If they listen and obey, they will fill their days with goodness and complete their years in glory.11 Si escuchan y se muestran dóciles, | la prosperidad colmará su vida, | el bienestar acompañará sus años;
But if they will not listen, they will pass away by the sword and will be consumed by foolishness.12 si no escuchan, cruzarán el canal; | morirán repletos de ignorancia.
The false and the crafty provoke the wrath of God, yet they do not cry out to him when they are chained.13 Los de corazón impío, | almacenan para sí la ira de Dios, | y no claman cuando él los encadena;
Their soul will die in a storm, and their life, among the unmanly.14 mueren en plena juventud, | su vida termina en la adolescencia.
He will rescue the poor from his anguish, and he will open his ear during tribulation.15 Pero salva al afligido con la aflicción, | lo instruye mediante el sufrimiento.
Therefore, he will save you from the narrow mouth very widely, even though it has no foundation under it. Moreover, your respite at table will be full of fatness.16 Te sacaría de las fauces de la angustia | a un lugar sin aprietos, espacioso, | a una mesa con platos sustanciosos.
Your case has been judged like that of the impious; you will withdraw your plea and your judgment.17 Pero tu pleito es propio de un culpable, | el pleito y el derecho te obsesionan.
Therefore, do not let anger overwhelm you so that you oppress another; neither should you allow a multitude of gifts to influence you.18 No te dejes seducir por la riqueza, | ni un soborno sustancioso te engañe:
Lay down your greatness without distress, and put aside all of your power with courage.19 nada valdrá ante la angustia | todo el poder de tus riquezas.
Do not prolong the night, even if people rise on their behalf.20 No suspires porque llegue la noche | en que la gente desaparece de su sitio.
Be careful that you do not turn to iniquity; for, after your misery, you have begun to follow this.21 Cuidado con reincidir en la maldad, | que por ella probaste la aflicción».
Behold, God is exalted in his strength, and there is no one like him among the law-givers.22 Dios es sublime y poderoso, | ¿qué maestro se le puede comparar?,
Who is able to investigate his ways? And who can say, “You have done iniquity,” to him?23 ¿quién podrá determinar su conducta?, | ¿quién puede acusarle de obrar mal?
Remember that you are ignorant of his work, yet men have sung its praises.24 Acuérdate de ensalzar sus obras, | que todos los hombres cantaron;
All men consider him; and each one ponders from a distance.25 todo el mundo las contempla, | los mortales las perciben de lejos.
Behold, God is great, defeating our knowledge; the number of his years is inestimable.26 Dios es poderoso, incomprensible; | no se pueden contar sus años.
He carries away the drops of rain, and he sends forth showers like a raging whirlpool;27 Atrae hacia sí las gotas de agua, | las filtra de su fuente como lluvia,
they flow from the clouds that are woven above everything.28 la lluvia destilada por las nubes, | que riega a toda la humanidad.
If he wills it, he extends the clouds as his tent29 ¿Quién conoce la extensión de su nube, | o el fragor que retumba en su tienda?
and shines with his light from above; likewise, he covers the oceans within his tent.30 El Altísimo despliega su relámpago, | que ilumina las raíces del mar.
For he judges the people by these things, and he gives food to a multitude of mortals.31 De este modo alimenta a los pueblos, | les regala sustento en abundancia.
Within his hands, he hides the light, and he commands it to come forth again.32 Oculta el relámpago en sus manos, | lo dirige directo hacia el blanco.
He announces it to his friend, for it is his possession and he is able to reach out to it.33 El Altísimo habla con su trueno, | su cólera provoca la tormenta.
